As already mentioned know how you feel Hope you feel better soon, glad it was just kit that took the damage. -
Same scale... I am guessing it really boils down to the difference between the 2, do the manufacturers choose an oil that moves as easily when cold as it does when hot or one that is "ok" when cold. So for 10w40 does does a cold SAE10 flow better than a hot SAE40 ... tried googling to find data and ended up realising I don't care that much Now back to actually ordering some oil for my car...
-
Not completely bike related, having a few glitches with car oil pressure so been checking what oils I can use etc... and stepping it up a grade. But got me thinking about oil weights, as everyone knows modern oils have a cold/hot rating e.g. 10w40 is SAE10 equivelent when cold and SAE40 when hot. So when it is cold it acts like a thinner oil yet whenever we do an oil change first thing we do is 'warm it up so it comes out easier'. Surely the oil is designed to be thinner when cold so would come out easier when cold? I'm guessing with engines there is obviously a big lump of metal acting as a heat sink so when engine is totally cold (and days like this) oil temp is well below normal temp so would be a benefit to getting it slightly warmer but otherwise heating oil up we are just making it thicker and taking longer to come out? Anyway no real point to this thread just thinking out loud, personally I like the dance with death where you remove a sump bolt from a warm engine and have to get your hand out the way of the hot oil stream before it disolves so will keep warming it up

I got my 125 brand new and took weeks for registration to arrive, when it turned up was not registered until a couple of weeks after I bought it, never got stopped but effectively got an extra 2 weeks on tax and first MOT
-
That won't happen. Im not insured to carry pillions and so will never be stopped for that specific reason. And I don't have a car license. Never even had a lesson. Yep, not a legal requirement, all it means if you have an accident with a pillion they can't claim for anything. Worse case is if they are injured they could sue you and you'd have to pay out of own pocket if they won.

Yeah but apart from toilets, roads and veganism, what have they ever done for us?

It's not discriminatory if you hate everyone

How do you find out if someone is vegan? Don't worry about it, they'll tell you.

Metropolitan Police - use of tactical contact on mopeds

Certainly police are not above the law, however there are extras laws that give them extra powers. The problem lies in interpretation of the law and use of that power. The met has its own legal department which will interpret such laws, this is then filtered downwards with policies and training based on that interpretation which is occasionally wrong. The requests for protection are not for the gun ho officers who have seen the news and decided they are now going to ram a motorcyclist themselves for fun with no training, those deserve everything they get. But those who have been trained and use that training in line with policy should be protected. The law is not black and white and most court cases spend more time arguing over interpretation of a law than what the suspect did or didn't do. In the cases where the police (as in the legal department and policy makers) get it wrong this shouldn't end up the fault of the police officer doing what they were told to do. -
Shocked at certain reaction, seriously wtf happened to a bit of empathy. Anyway Emma gutted for you, hopefully it will show up or as mentioned the thieving twat gets rammed off the road.

I mean the power bank type things, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Cell-Phone-Portable-Power-Bank-Chargers/20000mAh-Lightning-Speakers-Cellphones-Micro-USB/B0183K0GZC/ref=sr_1_2?tag=independen058-21 (That one won't work as you see it has a power button at the top) Will try and explain better... Currently attached dash cam to rear cigarette socket via USB socket like posted by Stu this is hidden out of the way and ignition live only. If I used that to plug into the input of a power bank that will charge it each time ignition is on which in turn will power dash cam. When ignition turned off no power going to power bank at all and it will then use its own battery to power dash cam until that goes dead (but won't matter if it does). The problem with one I've shown is the power button on the actual unit, like ones I've got, when you plug something into it they won't provide power until you press that button, as it will be hidden away need it to be always live. Don't want to pull any power from main car battery when ignition off rather leave the dash cam off. With the battery saver type things there's no guarantee camera won't drag it down to "minimum" within a day and then I leave it another 2 weeks until I drive again.
-
Fitted dash cam to car yesterday, currently just on an ignition live but has a parking mode I'd like to use, currently rarely using car and can go weeks without driving and then it will be a short hop to hospital or physio so thought I'd add in one of the phone battery chargers as I've got a couple. But problem with both of them is they won't output power to usb unless I press a button to turn them on, I need one that is always live on output so it can be hidden away and will charge up when ignition live and power the dash cam, then when parked if that goes flat I haven't got to worry about car not starting. Does anyone know of any? Unfortunately not a feature which is ever mentioned on advert.

Metropolitan Police - use of tactical contact on mopeds

There is a very simple way everyone, especially the innocent, can and being rammed off their bike and the possible consequences associated.... When that car behind flashes blue lights and turns siren on, pull over to the side of the road and stop. what could go wrong https://www.visordown.com/news/general/vigilante-jailed-beating-motorcyclist-after-knocking-him-bike Yeah but that is the point police won't be randomly ramming motorcycles off the road they believe are thiefs, they will use the old fashion method of putting flashy lights on and making some noise. If you're not a thief pull over and have a chat. Even if you have no mirrors and have head phones in and don't notice them they will not ram you off, if you are driving normally they will just keep following you until you stop. Now regardless of being a thief or not if they try and pull you over and you ride off like an absolute twat putting yourself and other road users in danger then you deserve everything that happens. -

They wouldn't be though, it would be down to 12 people who are too stupid to get out of jury service. -

Sounds reasonable to me That's definitely a step in right direction then and about time, can still see IOPC getting over eager and innocent until proven guilty never applies to police complaints Just watched the dash cam footage and not a single wince but a great big grin and the odd chuckle. -

Don't be silly. Unfortunately boils down to the courts though and the law is absolutely ridiculous. Effectively police drivers are held to same "standards" as normal road users for careless / dangerous driving. So regardless of extra training and dispensation to break certain traffic laws they can still get done for those. What this means is every time a police driver responds to an emergency call they are dangerous driving. However this is ignored for the vast majority of day to day activity, however if something goes wrong the DPS (met 'internal affairs' for the American cop show watchers) are quick to jump on the driver. And there have been quite a number of ridiculous prosecutions where the driver did nothing more than what they were trained to do and by bad luck / stupidity of the criminal something went wrong. I am a firm believer of Darwin and personally think that anyone killed whilst committing a criminal act should be marked up as tough shit. But law is not there to protect police drivers and personally I'm surprised anyone dares drive a police car nowadays. -
Awesome, been a lovely job and whole new lease of life for the ER5 again Although the engine colour matches mine more
