Agree......not a complicated job to mend it yourself, if you've got the manual for it.I reckon fastbob's right - it will probably be something to do with the selector mechanism. Only thing to watch is if you can't get new parts, be very wary about buying 2nd hand stuff sight unseen. I has an XS750 2D that ate it's selector drum and almost every drum that I found in various breakers had the same pattern of wear. Eventually found a replacement in Southwark, of all places, fitted it and all,was well again. I think that's why the 750 2D was eventually replaced by the XS850, but there were never as many of them about as the 750s. 9mnths on he may have fixed it ....

regardless of track or road you will get other people making mistakes and their reactions which will involve you . please take this in the manner it is meant and not a personal comment you have been riding for two weeks . You now need to learn how to ride a motorcycle on the road . This is not the same as learning to ride a motorcycle for your Test . Find a local bikesafe course and get on it . look at taking further training ...Enhanced Riders scheme , IAM or ROSPA . Advanced motorcycling is not about being boring and following the rules riding a bmw in hi vis its about Riding in a safe and smooth manner and enhancing your skillset . With regards to people getting the hump .. betari summed it up with your attitude affects your behaviour which in turns affects others attitude and their behavioir which then affects your attitude and onwards ...( betari cycle) this can be in a positive scenario :You make a risky overtake and have to pull in sharply causing the car you've just overtaken to brake sharply you wave in apology and the drivers anger is subdued or negative .. you make a risky overtake have to pull in sharply causing them to brake heavily but you don't acknowledge your mistake and angers them so road rage ensues

as above . Too many people try to use track riding on the roads ... it doesn't work . Tracks you have a better field of vision around bends and no oncoming traffic . Also regardless of your experience and skill levels .Work out what you want to gain from a track day before you get there . ie do you want to learn what you can do with a bike ie how far they will lean how your body position reacts on the bike ...or do you just want to see how fast you can go before you shit yourself ! go to track days with a huge level of humility and realise that from the start you are not as good as you think you are and learn from it . Get decent advice from instructors and other racers but beware not all advice is decent from the pits. the final thing is ENJOY yourself ..if you start berating yourself why you can't do xyz corner like the others ... stop and work out why .. not keep on trying in the vain hope you will emulate them thats when it goes horribly wrong

ride to your comfort levels and pace . that way you're not relying on the bike to get you out of trouble ! if your riding too hard into a corner that you need to stop yourself going wide on YOU'RE RIDING BEYOND YOUR LIMIT way before you've even got to the corner . That style of riding heavy accel & harsh brake works on a track but road riding it will not end well .

spyra bases are good for their purpose . they used to be a gold award in the highest security . if they want it it will go. i do have three in my ownership .two securing my trailer etc and one for the bike . you can always screw the anchor in partially and then add postcement and carry on screwing it in add a bit more cement just to give a bit more form to the ground .
