  1. NO NO NO. Change the oil and filter before storing and fill the fuel tank. Fumes are a fire hazzard and dry carbs will gum up. There is a school of thought that running the bike for short periods is worse than not starting it. Have a look on google for condensation in the oil.
  2. What you want free for? How many flat batteries you got?
  3. Check you've not disturbed something fitting the bulb. Had a similar issue with a dislodged wire.
  4. A tenner off. Only paid a tenner for mine. Wilkinsons
  5. Automatic choke? Throttle sticking?
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLFGvuhJlUI
  7. And clean the saddle
  8. The interval will be specified in your manual. Small bikes with small sumps need changing more frequently. You can't change it too often.
  9. All liquid filled batteries use electrolite and need topping up with deionised water from time to time. A battery in constant use will use it more quickly. Make the battery part of your fluid check routine. The crystals or powder that forms is corrosive and will burn skin and clothing. Holey wranglers
  10. I'd still change the plugs. A bike that is a bit awkward to start will slowly take more out of the battery than is going back in. New plugs will help it leap into life. Better fuel economy and performance too.
  11. Not the battery then if it's cranking. Fuel in the exhaust is causing the back firing. So I'd be looking for an ignition problem. (no spark) As said I'd replace the plugs. It's allways a good starting point. They may be fouled. (Dirty/wet). Look at the condition of the old ones as you take them out. They should tell you a story. Make sure you gap the new plugs correctly. Maybe give the battery a charge as it's getting a lot taken out trying to start the bike. With new plugs and a full battery be careful not to flood the engine as you start it. It's easy done in cold weather.
  12. It might mean somebody has an over reading speedo.
  13. Mmmm.... A volt meter that isn't straight? Mind you don't rev it into the pink.
  14. Have you changed just the inner or cable complete?
  15. Are we trying to start a hot bike with full choke and flooding it, filling the end can with fuel that ignites and flames?
  16. Cos it makes a lot of sense to be 17 on a cbt and doing 160mph innit
  17. Stick it on and give it a go.
  18. Could be a faulty battery or loose terminals or a bad earth somewhere, but it does sound like a fuel problem. Red X it and give it a good run.

  20. Oh no! Not the turn it off then turn it on again
  21. Disconnect the battery charger and measure the voltage across the terminals. That should let you know what's happening with the battery. Make sure there's fluid in the battery. How long has the battery been stood? Never used an optimiser. Don't they put in differing amounts of charge depending on what the battery needs? As a last resort you could see what the instruction manual for it says?
  22. You got a multi meter?
  23. Don't forget your scarf and gloves
  24. I seem to remember that there's a dry graphite lubricant for key holes. Spray silicone grease works well. Applied with the capillary. Available where they sell washing machine spares. http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?Men ... n%20Grease
