  1. It depends what sort and how big. Throw over panniers are just that. For bigger ones support bars need fitting to keep them out of the back wheel and to anchor them.
  2. Silk balacalava (under helmet) and silk under gloves. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/custom ... mid=387141 http://www.newenough.com/gloves/glove_l ... iners.html It's that time of year.
  3. Some bikes have a clutch sensor so you can start the bike in gear. Might be worth checking it's wired the right way round. Apart from the clutch switch it may be the neutral switch.(Bike thinks it's in gear so won't let you start it till you pull the clutch) Usual thing to check when the starter doesn't work is , kill switch , side stand and in neutral. Some need the clutch lever in as well. After reading again, the brake light is probably the lever switch or the pedal switch
  4. £69 for a vest @1/3 price....£23.........for a vest??http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/0027.gif Would you like to buy some magic beanshttp://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/0012.gif
  5. Is there fuel in the tank? Engine kill switch? If the engine has been running for several minutes applying the choke will flood it. Too much petrol wets the spark plugs and inhibits spark. Choke is for cold starting. After checking the fuel. Take the plugs out and clean them.
  6. Sounds like incorrect wiring or a short. Check what you've been working on to see if you've nipped anything. Otherwise it's circuit diagram and multimeter time.
  7. Get the right can
  8. Any cheap hair shampoo for general washing. (Detergent free.) Asda smart price multi purpose cleaner for greasy bits. One cap in a bucket of water. Both applied with a large sponge and rinsed well. Cheap synthetic bathsponges will push into nooks and crannies and can be discarded. A washing up brush for spokes. Autosol and electric tooth brush for tarnished metal. Mr sheen to finish off. Then apply cheap sunglasses to avoid blindness from shine
  9. I drive a bike, a car and a truck. I also tow a caravan from time to time. I also am a pedestrian who pushes a supermarket trolley ocasionaly and a cyclist. Which boxes should I tick
  10. Could be time for a drain , flush and replace the coolant. I can't remember what the shelf life is but it needs changing from time to time to give peak efficiency.
  11. You should aim to miss your shoes
  12. When I was running a 1982 XV750 I was advised by the mechanic to not put too much pressure in the forks as it will blow the seals out. Sit the bike on the centre stand, lift the front wheel off the floor and open the valves in turn. That should give you a usable setting. Very much ahead of its time the XV750. Fibre optic alarm and sensors for everything. Hows your final drive?
  13. Mind with the loaner jacket. Nobody talks to you when wearing it.
  14. How inattentive would you have to be not to notice a whack on the head capable of damaging your helmet?http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/101131.gifhttp://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/0083.gif
  15. Could be a blocked matrix. Is it filled with the recommended coolant. Just water can cause overheating. Drain , flush and refill.
  16. Sounds like a short. Time to get the meter out. Could try the old fashioned method. New fuse, pitch black, watch for sparks. Have a good sniff round.
  17. No wonder it was discounted, some wally has put the pockets in the back. you'll need to practice Yoga to get your small change out.
  18. Unless you write a disclaimer that the repair is being accepted on condition that it restores the product to as new or better and does not affect your right to a replacement or upgrade should this not be the case. A refund on a product with a 1 year guarantee may be reduced pro rata. ie six months old = one half refund. Hein Gericke are usually pretty good and back up their own brand products.
  19. Sale of goods act. Fit for purpose. I think you'd be better asking them what their policy on replace or repair is.
  20. A bike will last until it becomes uneconomic to repair/maintain. Everything is mendable given time and money. Lots of running and mint examples from the 60's can be seen at the vintage Japanese owners club show. One mans shed is another mans classic. My Virago has 60K on it and I don't ride gently. Nothing major has gone. They reckon the engine is good for 250K. An old high mileage vehicle of any kind is what it is. Everybody wants new and no fuss. A keen eye and a little spannering can result in bargain transport.

  22. I can't imagine what sort of mess it would make trying to take a drink at 70mph on a motorway, with a full face helmet on. If you're too tight to buy a brew, or too shy to stop, take a small flask.
