  1. The majority of 'higher quality'.. and sometimes less so. Top cases have the ability to fit a back rest... a padded cushion of sorts to make leaning back against the case more comfortable. I dont make a good pillion.. in fact I generally hate it. BUT.. with a top case to sit back against.. that extra feeling of security does tip the balance for me. I believe the MT10 has pillion grab handles at the side.. which is perfect.
  2. Talybont farm Camping.. in the heart of the Brecon beacons. in the little village of Talybont-on-Usk. Motorbike friendly site.. website has picture proof. 2 pubs just a few minutes walk away. About 150 miles from Southampton - fastest route avoiding motorways, so that ride can be made as interesting/pleasant as you like. and just about perfectly placed for an explore of the area. https://goo.gl/maps/LLMs5zgW7S12
  3. The bike is new enough for the seals to be covered by the bikes warranty.
  4. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. The warranty will cover the forks seals. but probably not the corrosion.. unless you can manage to get your dealer on side as it will be down to them to argue your case with head office at Farnborough. best to really emphasise to the dealer that the bike has never seen salt and so this is unacceptable. It may help your case that the Bike is financed by PCP and so this corrosion will have a negative impact on the bikes final value.
  5. 274 mile round trip... this is what you get for living in the back of beyond!
  6. its glass. apparently 'microscopic glass beads' but together as a 'sheet' Im not all that surprised that it would be stiff.. its likely due to the glass, and whatever that has been bonded to plus what adhesive they have used. whether it will become more pliable.. is something you will have to find out for yourself. its a fairly novel idea. compared to the old favourite Scotchlite.
  7. Apparently it does because you can buy one as a replacement part... also, I believe some Yamaha's and carbed 1200 bandits have one. But exactly why? beats me.
  8. Licences are standard across the EU and most Nordic countries. Plus Switzerland. This is why the old P category was replaced with AM. That was one of our final steps to full integration. If you are stopped by any policeman in any EU country (or involved in any kind of RTA) the first thing they will want to see is your photocard.. and if said photocard is not valid for the vehicle you are driving or riding then you can expect an instant fine.. so have the cash available and saying bye bye to the bike.. it will be seized. You are not licensed to ride it.. nor will you be insured. And they will realise this immediately It doesn't matter if the policeman doesnt speak a word of english.. the pictograms and codes are standard. and what you are licensed to drive or ride is obvious. for example.. a German licence. (rear) I believe that technically you can ride a moped if your full driving license was issued before 2001.. but this is a technicality I wouldn't trust a foreign policeman to recognise. and there is still the matter of insurance. Try arguing and they will arrest you. In fact.. it wouldn't surprise me one bit if you were arrested anyway in some countries.
  9. Thank you for all the encouraging/supportive comments and thanks. Im not worried about the DBS check.. although I made light of it.. many of the crimes its designed to flag up are incredibly horrible (vile in the extreme) though hidden behind careful legalese. I think I 'get' why some organisations would demand a fresh.. up to date one. An abundance of caution. During the interview there was one section of questions all about "Abuse"... questions I was completely unprepared for and are firmly outside of my experience.. So, in my mind I substituted the word "Abuse" with "Bullying" and gave answers based on that, which seemed to go down well. Anyway.. I was told to expect some emails on Monday and so I'll have to wait and see what they have to say.
  10. Already have.. it was asked at yesterdays interview and WILL be honoured. (policy for new starters.) so not a worry. all sorted.
  11. Thanks.. I was lucky to be able to give up work at my 40th birthday and wondered if this considerable gap would be an automatic bar. But apparently not.. the money isn't fantastic though thats not an issue for me.. the best thing really is the workplace (a seeming normal house) is just under a mile and a half away.. so I wont need to use the motorbike. (I'm considering a scooter) though for most of the year I'll cycle and in the worst weather.. its a fairly easy walk. The enhanced DBS check doesn't seem to be problematic. Im a real goody two shoes. I actually gasped at some of the crimes they look for. I may have occasionally cursed the Channel Tunnel train.. but Ive never hijacked one. Nor have I ever threatened anyone (not even Theresa May) with that Nuclear device I keep under the stairs. (its only a dinky little one.. but it does give off a nice blue/green glow which saves on electric) The ball starts rolling properly on Monday.
  12. After 16 years of retirement (and recently.. increasing boredom/dissatisfaction.) I've had an interview for a job!! Interview was yesterday and today a phone call. Apparently I impressed them enough that its moving on to the next stage!! eek!! Working with vulnerable Adults.. in this case Severely Autistic men. So.. a few hoops to jump through as yet.. references and an enhanced DBS check. In a previous life I worked in retail.. finally as a store manager, so this is a big change of direction.. completely different. But.. perhaps far more satisfying. just a tad excited.
  13. where is the review?
  14. brave man Not really.. Im just careful about where I leave it. I had a chain and lock.. I gave it away. same went for the disc lock.. gave it away as I never used it.
  15. Why do you care what some on here say? They are in the minority... and the worst of them has himself had a hissy fit and flounced. My strategy.. is that I don't engage with armchair experts or point scoring keyboard warriors with more ego than sense. just not worth a moment of my time... but, thankfully they're a minority and instantly recognisable and ignoring them (as they rage) is wonderfully satisfying. your input.. even when (and particularly when) it rattles a few cages is always useful.
  16. Just to clarify... car ownership and any no claims means nothing so far as Motorcycle insurance is concerned.. you are starting from new.
  17. Thats what you want.. for the cutting to carry a real risk of discovery because of the noise.
  18. The beefy looking lock will put off an opportunist who isnt equipped.. but according to the test the makers cite.. the hasp lasted 21 seconds when attacked with an angle grinder. full test - http://tinyurl.com/ycb8wf7e
  19. This thread is a month late.
  20. The most vulnerable part is the hasp. so try to make as little as possible exposed enough that a portable angle grinder can get at it.
  21. And.. a route map for Luxembourg. from the same source (ADAC touring) though apparently its no longer available. includes a little bit of Belgium. From La Roche-en-Ardenne. and on into northern Luxembourg. In my opinion.. routes don't really matter in the north as all the roads are fantastic.. but this is a good start, best of the best? maybe... especially if you have limited time... or are just passing through. low quality screengrab full size download link below. 22. Vianden is great.. though it is definitely a pricey place to stay. (perfect though for a single/couple) far too expensive unfortunately for my happy band of travellers, so, we stay about 12 miles away just a few miles inside the German border.. this gives us quick access to Luxembourg (and its cheap petrol) as well as the Eifel/Hunsruck regions and as an added bonus, The Nurburgring is about 50 miles distant. Its become something of a tradition to spend a full day in the more mountainous "Oesling" north end of Luxembourg as its comparatively empty of people and cars when we go and a joy to explore, you can ride for hours and count yourself unlucky to see more than a few cars.. Roads that are as smooth as silk with little or no police presence. Its great. Every time we go we discover something new and altogether wonderful. My first sight of the castle above Vianden is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life.. not least because it was such a surprise, I nearly fell off my bike. https://goo.gl/maps/Xi9VisFsJWC2
