Took my old peugeot to Halfords, they did a free pressure check and found it was leaking somewhere so just left it. Unless its a decent car where not having the AC will harm any value I'd leave it. Must admit my M3 is the first car I've ever owned with working A.C. and wouldn't be without it on the 3 days of summer we get.

Yes I read that too but not without risk, if you get it wrong you can overheat or blow up the battery. New smart charger was only £12 off the bay and is a trickle charger aswell. Just a shame it wouldn't pick the battery up from dead flat.
-
Not so smart charger that I bought to charge the 6v Honda battery. It was a new battery two years ago, rode the bike once to the Rugby bikefest and been parked up ever since. Battery was unsurprisingly flat when I dragged it out last week , showed 0.5v so bought a cheap ebay "smart" charger that can autodetect 6,12 or 24v. Hooked it up to the battery and nothing happened. Tried it on a 12v battery off the 380 and it worked fine. So got old faithful off my Dad and after a quick boost the 6v battery perked up enough for the smart charger to start working. Checked the battery tonight and its still showing 5.6v so with a good charge I'm hoping it will be ok. Dads charger must be at least 50 years old, he's had it as long as I can remember.

Yes Hillmorton . That would be great to finally catch up.
-
@fastbob yes please, I'll have some of those. I've also "collected" many std fasteners from engines we've stripped over the years that would have been chucked out, they are really handy for restorations. Once covid allows will have to catch up.

With the silverwing no, the oil light is barely out and I'm off. The R1 gets fired up before I put my gloves on so that gets about 1 minute. The 380 will get a couple of minutes, 2 strokes are prone to cold seizure if you rag it too hard from cold. The RGV gets at least 5 mins until the temp gauge is near the first mark and even then I'll baby it for around 10 miles before gradually opening it up.

RIP, Murray Walker. Total legend.

3 litre V6, 205hp, light flywheel, uprated clutch. 14.4 sec 1/4 mile. Sadly the shell is pretty rotten.

Wheeled the Honda outside to turn it around so I can get the front wheel out while its tucked up under the bench. Fired it up for the first time in a year or so, even though the battery was flat it started, try that with an efi bike. Considering its 51 years old, it still sounds like a sewing machine. Might be the last picture of the Cavalier, should be selling it next Saturday after 17 years of ownership.

Indeed, time will tell on the quality. Yes I took a while to find the right looking tyres for the era, saw an SS for sale a while back with modern tyres on and it just spoilt the complete look of it.
-
Fitted the new rear tyre and put the wheel back in the bike. I think the inner tube manufacturers need to pay a bit more attention to the detail.

The person riding an L plated 125 in Rugby this morning with a full orange Sainsburys shopping bag hooked over their left wrist.

So you didn't change the filter after all that?
-
The engine sounded like a bag of nails so I'd be backtracking on what work has been done starting with the filter, its the only thing that's been changed. As it doesn't have an oil pressure light, how do you know its got pressure?
-
Does the bike have an oil pressure light, if its like my R1 that only has a low oil level light. If it doesn't I'd be suspecting low/no oil pressure. Can you take the oil filter off and check there is oil there, turning it over by hand should pump oil out. Is the new filter blocked or faulty, some filters have a clear film over the open face to stop dirt ingress.

So sorry to hear that. Take care.

My next project after the Honda is finished.,1959 Velosolex 1700. Bought it on a bit of a whim about 6 years ago as it was cheap and local ,done nothing with it since but as I'm extending the shed its stored in ,I had to wheel it outside. It's pretty much all there, even got a child seat. Child safety was obviously fairly lax in 1960s France.

@linuxrob lol, I got busted years ago by boiling a chain in grease in a tin on the cooker while OH was out. Although I cleared up, the smell of the grease gave me away. Finished the rear wheel today, pretty happy with the run out ,around 1mm in both directions, manual says 3mm max which seems a lot to me. Ground the ends off the protruding spokes, fitted new tube tape and reassembled the brake. New tyre should be here tomorrow. Once the rear is back together, I'll take the front back out, paint the hub and fit the new tyre.

Did you fit new gaskets? Are they genuine. I've used pattern gaskets before that can self destruct. Also I've had a gasket slip out of position when wriggling the exhaust into place and get deformed as I pulled the nuts up. When tightening the manifold nuts up do you do it evenly, if you tighten one nut up fully first it could pull the pipe up on the skew and cause a leak. If you don't have a mechanics stethoscope use any old bit of small bore hose, surprising what noises you can hear.

Put the wheel together this afternoon, just got to tension and true it up. Got a frowny face off OH for doing this on the dining table.

How about a sleeve like this in a 16mm axle wheel? https://www.bearings-online.co.uk/item/3456/PlainOiliteBush/AMC121625-Plain-Oilite-Bush-12x16x25.html

I've had a pair of the calipers for years, such great value

Bushes arrived yesterday so took the parts to work today. Hub in the oven at 50 deg C for an hour and used our big arbor press to shove the bushes in, bottoming them out using a socket.
