Have you ever...hit an animal/been hit by an animal??
manxie49 replied to BikerMooFromMars's topic in Motorbike Chat
Hit a dog once, it ran straight out in front of me, thankfully I wasn't going very fast, being a dog lover I was really upset about it, dog seemed ok, must have scared the crap out of him though it certainly did me! -
You should give it a go, the guy I was chatting to the other day was a big bloke, at least 6'4", he said he suffers with his back and found the MT10 quite comfortable and doesn't cause him any issues, I was keen to find out a bit about the comfort side of things as I suffer intermittently with back problems that resulted from an injury years ago, I'm looking forward to getting my paws on one for a test ride.

My current S10 Isn't good for heat, fan seems to be running most of the time around town during the summer, sounds like a jet! Makes me beg the question how long it will last before replacement is needed.
-
Cheers, bike looks brilliant! Really suits the black, small tank and poor fuel consumption seems to be the most common gripe, I've been looking at the MT10 Tourer, comes with the better seat, small screen and a couple of other bits, IMHO I can't see it being worse than my trip to Cornwall on a 900RRW Fireblade, that was hard going, especially with a ruck sack on! Spoke briefly with a guy a few days ago who had one and he loved it, just ridden over from Leicester. What I want is a bike I can use daily plus has the power for two up, loaded and down the motorway, seems to fit the bill. Regarding the exhaust, the guy I spoke with the other day had a slip on Akrapovich, sounded lovely, really nice engine note.

Anyone here ridden a Yamaha MT10? If so what did they think, opinions? Looking at one for every day use plus touring

This is the problem, I know they only did one lap but it seems like the organisers get desperate to get some racing in and make stupid decisions, I came home via Glen Helen, into Ramsey then over the mountain, the roads were absolutely crap, I don't think it was a wise decision to even do one lap! See how today goes, roads close at 12:30 just looking at the mountain and its thick with fog again, helicopter has just had to pick its way down the coast to Ramsey because it can't go over the top ....

Ha, ha, you aint one of those bogus medics we get here for the TT are you Absolutely NOT iv never been to the TT lol Thats terrible .... not coming to the TT and missing all this crap weather we get

They're hoping to do a couple of qualifying laps this afternoon, roads closing at 12:30, not looking good though, rain and mountain is still foggy, helicopter won't be able to fly so that will put pays to that. Forecast says it should be clearing up so keeping my fingers crossed for this evenings practice. Just came home via the grandstand this morning, really quiet up there, not like MGP (FOM) at all.
-
This looks brilliant, I'm going to give this one a try, I'd never heard of it till now .... Thanks for posting

Yep, just looking out of the window now, mountain is sucked in with fog and rain forecast, can't believe it's the middle of practice week and still no racing Looks like its off to the pub again with a couple of mates who are over for the week Possibility of an afternoon practice session tomorrow, I won't hold my breath though.

You shouldn't need one if used regularly but it doesn't hurt either, I have an optimate connected every time its parked up in the garage and the battery is as good as new two years down the road, some people will tell you it doesn't do your battery any good leaving them connected to a trickle charger (or battery conditioner) but speaking personally I've always used optimate and never had any problems

Only the rear (usually).. and thats because.. simply put. A bike with an ABS rear that goes off road has a rear brake that is virtually useless. and what use is a useless rear brake? if it doesn't work.. what is it for? In certain extreme circumstances.. an ABS bike off road will have no brakes whatsoever.. and that can end badly. My talent for understatement just gets better and betterer One guy tried to explain it quite simply for me, off road, rear brake for helping to steer front brake for stopping, although I think both brakes should be used sensibly in the right circumstances, but I can see the rationale for turning off ABS on the rear
-
yes.. its been a common theme for nearly 30 years. since the early 90s. I must admit that I'm just getting into doing a bit of green laning and being able to turn off the ABS was one bit of advice that keeps coming up, I hear what their saying but still don't understand why, at the speeds I'm doing, why I would need to bother I'm not a hardened off roader
-
BTW what bike is this fitted to? I know mine has ABS and my bike is an ADV but there's been instructions posted on the web telling people who do some hardened off roading how to turn the ABS off as mine doesn't have an off switch.
-
I'm talking about people into enduro riding, they seem to hate ABS and if its fitted they turn it off, seems to be the common theme, if you google it there's a lot of explanations as to why they don't like it ">

One other thing I've noticed and I don't know if anyone else has, how many sane, sensible and nice people there are who change into Mr or mrs angry the minute they get behind the wheel of their car. Guy I work with, really nice bloke, good sense of humour, help you out if your stuck kind of bloke, turns into a real cock when he gets behind the wheel, so much so that I'm surprised he hasn't been chinned, I know he's not the only one like this, I'm sure I'm the same as a lot of people here and have witnessed some senseless and stupid behaviour on the roads from people who are not normally inclined to act like complete and utter dicks.
-
Look good if you were using your bike for a carnival or a trick bike display, couldn't do with my mates ripping the arse out of me for something like that .... BTW those lights look green?
-
My current bike is the only bike I've ever had with ABS, never had any issues without it in all my years of biking and I've ridden in all weathers, so yes, I'd definitely buy a bike without it, that said, I can most definitely see the safety benefits of having it. You'll find that hardened off road riders think that ABS is a hinderance ....
-
Never thought about it till you mentioned it .... But yes you're right .... Can't remember the last time I seen a bike ad on telly
-
I'm with stu .... Chavvy and probably illegal ....
-
you`ll be lucky to find a clean 2nd hand item .. these things are bought by off roaders .. seriously tryin to explain to a numpty that i don`t want to do the north face of the eiger on one was a pain .. 3 times .. if you use it for road and little else it will be fine ... but they do have little niggles which need keepin on top of .. it is not japanese and cannot be neglected as such... Cheers, I've been looking at the 4 Stroke Yams as well, I'm having the same problems, trying to get people to understand that I just want to do some green laning, I don't want to race and I don't want to become an MX whizz either, Been really tempted by a 350 KTM 4T and a Yam WR250, both with less than 40hrs use, within my budget as well, the Yam is anyway, I keep hearing really good things about the KTM but I keep hearing them from hardcore enduro riders ....

A friend uses Kapersky, see link, I helped him set it up "which wasn't difficult", it has a free version to try, you also get geo fencing with it and it allows you to monitor your kids real time with GPS locator, not a bad price either. https://usa.kaspersky.com/safe-kids?cid=usa_affiliatemarketing_acq_ona_afm__onl_b2c_cjde_affiliatelink__cjde_____&PID=5226272&CJ_CID=1583972&CJ_PID=5226272&CJ_CID_NAME=Ziff+Davis%2C+LLC&utm_source=CJ&utm_medium=affiliate&CJEVENT=d572ce45c28411e981cb01a00a180510&utm_campaign=5226272

Terrible thing to witness, my heart goes out to you, the rider and his family. As stated contact your GP or your local Ambulance service trust, they should be able to offer a debrief of what happened, it'll go a long way in helping you get your head around the whole experience.

Try this site, a lot of information for green laners: As already said, think of green lanes as unmade public roads, the laws that pertain to road riding also extend to the green lanes, the Police, here anyway, are pretty hot on doing spot checks. You can only ride with no licence or insurance on and unregistered bike on private land you own or with the owners permission, good luck and have fun, just getting back into green laning myself https://www.trf.org.uk/the-isle-of-green-roads/
