1. Hello and welcome. Pop in to your local J&S store. They have a lot of gear at reasonable prices. All motorcycle gear should provide a minimum of protection but this can often be enhanced by adding or getting better body armour.
2. Do the DAS if your are over 24
3. The choice in your title is not mutually exclusive. You HAVE to do the CBT before any further training. Once you have done the CBT you can ride a 125cc bike with L-Plates for up to two years before retaking the CBT, no M-ways and no pillions. Depending on your age most people over 24 years of age tend to do the DAS, if they can afford it, as it allows you to go directly to a larger engined bike, which most find more satisfying and often easier to ride. Finding a good instructor is a good idea.
4. Another firm in your neck of the woods is: https://www.goldtop.co.uk
5. I was chatting with a police motorcyclist about this when I did the BikeSafe course last month. He said that for the speed limit to be enforceable there has to be a speed limit sign on both sides of the road. If one sign is not there, for whatever reason - might have been knocked down etc, then the change of speed limit is not enforceable. This was confirmed by the IAM examiner I am working with on my Advanced Rider Course. But they can still do you for careless riding/driving if you are obviously unsafe.
6. I found that my Schuberth C4 can be worn pretty much all day long without any discomfort. But I did take advice from J&S and various head measurements to ensure I got the correct size. This is one of those things that is best not bought online - first time round anyways. Once I got my head size sorted I did buy another Schuberth M1 online, which was also fine though I haven't worn it as much as the C4.
7. I didn't realise that one could assign friends on the forum
8. PhDS have been awarded on more obscure research.
9. Like raesewell I have about 6 pairs of gloves for different situations. There is no such thing as all season product. For what it’s worth I also have 6 jackets and trousers for the same reasons.
10. I’d say that was pretty good mileage for the type of riding you are doing. Motorways are always going to flatten the middle of a tyre - hence I rarely use them.
11. These 20mph areas are popping up all over the place where they were 30 before. Easy to get caught out. Never mind you’ll know for next time. Hello and welcome by the way.
12. Seems like a bargain. Lots of different colours as well.
13. Shoei make good helmets
14. I've sometimes had to pay duty on stuff from the USA and sometimes not. Never had to on stuff from China. Perhaps customs don't think anything from China has any value - they might have a point.
15. hello and welcome, as above
16. make do with what you've got, just take the spectacles off when you put the lid on or off.
17. Hello and welcome. Perhaps it's the float in the tank that has come loose and is tapping the inside of the tank. But only a wild guess.
18. From the Independent : "Fenati appeared to be reacting to an earlier incident between the pair, which saw Manzi run the Italian off the track as he overtook him. Mazni received a penalty of his own for the initial clash, and he will be hit with a six-place grid penalty at Aragon next time out for "irresponsible riding"."
19. Perhaps I should have added safety to the clothes requirements. Cheap gear is worse than useless if you come off.
20. I’d get the clothes sorted before anything else. If you are wet and/or cold biking will be miserable.
21. Cyclist is a jerk. Shouldn’t be be on the pavement. Even bigger jerk for putting it on YouTube
22. I've scratched several pairs of spectacles by them falling onto the ground when I rested them on the bike to put my helmet on and off. Should have put them in the top box. Having said that I scratched a visor on my Schuberth C4 in the top box. The scratch was right in front of the eye when visor down so annoying and expensive scratch.
