  1. Why I don't have a vintage bike. My interest is purely in riding it. Fettling brings me out in a cold sweat and a need to lie down in a dark room.
  2. Insurance has largely shot up in price over the last few years. When I changed my bike in December from a Multistrada to a Guzzi V100S my premium went up to just under £500. Had been £300 for the Multistrada. Smaller bikes are moreoften stolen I think.
  3. Engineering is the backbone of n industrial society. The decline in British engineering is a sad indictment on the state of our economy.
  4. I reckon you're right there or at least its a major part of it. To go through the ridiculous rigmarole that seems the case today you really must have a burning desire to ride a bike. Not sure many do. That said both my son and son in law did and that wasn't due to me having a bike as I didn't then. In fact it was partly them getting bikes that reawakened my desire for one again.
  5. Getting enraged by lying bast*rd oil terminals. Turns out there's two ships ahead of us in the queue which they've known about for a week. Instead of telling me that from the beginning they only told me once I arrived off Rotterdam and anchored. Spent most of last week arranging crew changes and a load of work that needs doing with 7 different sub-contractors which is all now having to be rescheduled for the 7th / 8th. I'm furious; you could even say I'm having conniptions.
  6. If you are going all end of days apocalypse may I point out that the availability of petrol is likely to be severely curtailed. Oil refineries are high priority targets and burn very nicely. I'd be looking for a mule myself.
  7. My wife built me something like that in the (large) cupboard under the stairs. Works well enough although she has 2/3 of the cupboard for all her tools and painting stuff and extending ladder.
  8. Niton is also a decent if expensive shock. Don't know if they're available in the US though.
  9. Don't know about the youth of today quadrupling accidents. A lot of them are so cosseted anything faster than 50 mph would probably send them into conniptions. Manufacturers would start making nothing bigger than a 450 and it would have to be green too. There's the odd youthful scallywag around but not enough.
  10. Good morning from the Western Approaches. Pass Land's End tonight on the way up Channel to Rotterdam. If all goes well should be home on Monday.
  11. It would be interesting to know the back story to that.
  12. Yep, you can't spot them all. You don't live for ever either. Definitely not worth getting into a rage over although in your head you can always imagine pulling out your handy pocket sized death ray and blowing the offending bast*rd to dust bunnies.
  13. I rode in to my now Guzzi dealer to have a random look at what they had. Saw something I liked and made an enquiry as to availability then after a bit of to and fro got a decent offer for px on the Multistrada and deal done. I suspect with it being early December there was some enthusiasm on the part of the dealer to shift stock. He hasn't made a quick buck selling it on either as according to DVLA website it's still not taxed.
  14. Wouldn't use them myself but I believe Shinko tyres are a reasonable price and are quite popular in America for some reason.
  15. Instead of being made in a Far East sweatshop they're probably made in a European one staffed by illegal migrants who are effectively slaves.
  16. A fool and his money are soon parted. These have to be one of the more hideous items to have crossed my visual horizon.
  17. Tomtom does it for me. So long as they keep supporting my version.
  18. Nasty way to go. Rather than do yourself why not try roasting a Green. They're so full of hot air they should go up with a bang.
  19. Last quiet weekend at sea as next weekend all hell will be unleashed upon us. The light at the end of the tunnel of course is that once I've survived next weekend I'll be hopefully in Amsterdam Airport on the way home. At the moment the jury is still out as to whether the light is an onrushing train.
  20. Haven't fitted it yet but I have bought a Mistral Tria polished stainless end can and a cat cover. Supposedly good for an additional 3 hp which means absolutely jack. Got it more for the simple fact it looks so much better.
  21. The should be a baffle or a flap in there which is supposed to have something to do with emission controls. Has it become detached?
  22. Can't recollect too many rides where prayers were an integral part of them. Some exceptions such: Christ on a crutch what are you doing? Jesus Christ! For God's sake are you blind? That sort of thing.
  23. In which case I'm as mystified as you.
  24. Well done her and congratulations all round!
  25. What he said although short answers are generally better than shirts.
