  1. Helps that in Germany in general trucks are not allowed in any lane other than 1 so you don't get these endless queues when one tries and fails to overtake another. Also they aren't allowed on the road on Sunday at all except for certain special categories. Of course there are a lot of complaints about foreign drivers not following the rules although if the police catch them they will get done.
  2. Also a lot of lane 3 hoggers seem to stick at about 70 mph as if they are stating " that's the limit and I'm not allowing anyone else to speed." They are the ones who tend to react badly if you undertake them.
  3. Well as always England flatter to deceive. A draw with Denmark isn't exactly the scintillating performance we might have wished for. Of course they did win it in 1992 which is more than we've ever managed
  4. Complete nobs both of them. Quite what they are trying to prove I've no idea. Small willy syndrome probably.
  5. Yep it's all down hill to winter now. Nights drawing in etc.
  6. Yes in the Faeroes. Didn't know what it was first but tasted like fishy grouse so wouldn't rush to repeat. It was better than the whale blubber- that was truly vile.
  7. Get familiar with roads and traffic by riding a pedal bike. No stress.
  8. Can't really make recommendations but be aware a lot of what used to be NSL is now 50 mph and the police occasionally have purges.
  9. Happy birthday and enjoy.
  10. Can't imagine anyone to be so deranged as to ride without gloves. If you have an off you are almost certainly going to be putting your hands out with catastrophic results. (YouTube has some hideous examples). I'm surprised a cop would though - surely it would be a disciplinary thing for them?
  11. Good stuff. Now enjoy the fun!
  12. Rode down the A46 which was virtually empty so good fun. Then into Bristol to snoop around SBS but bought nothing except some cleaning stuff. Came home up the motorway to beat the rain but it never arrived.
  13. I've found that all my rear tyres wear faster than fronts and on a variety of different bikes.
  14. When I replace the Pirellis my bike came with I'm planning on trying Continentals Road Attack 4. They are at least made in Germany whereas just about everything else is made in Asia.
  15. Not -13! Just 13 and that's cold enough!
  16. If it's an interesting road with an interesting destination I've no issues with coming back the same way. Assuming it's an interesting road - twisty - the bends will all be different coming back and the views will be different too.
  17. Miserable day. Freezing cold - 13 C in middle of June! Whose idea was this!? However somewhat mollified by this: Very nice dram indeed.
  18. One thing I can be sure of - it won't be England.
  19. It's not cool, it's bloody freezing!
  20. Surely if you're too decrepit to mount the Speedtriple just moving the Rocket will see you off?!
  21. The vast majority of my filtering is done on motorways or other main roads where pedestrians are a rare breed.
  22. Each to their own; it would be boring if we were all the same. I'm perfectly happy on my own and at least when I talk to myself I can have a sensible conversation.
  23. Passing Newport yesterday afternoon the M4 has that stupid 50 mph section with average speed check. Naturally it ends up at busy times with all lanes doing about 20 mph so I filtered through there with no issues. Nice wide lanes and most drivers, particularly HGV's eased over.
  24. We went to do our stint on the naughty step for going too fast. 22 folks there but only me on a bike. I was good, kept my mouth shut (mostly) and have to avoid being done for next 3 years.
  25. Rode to Aberystwyth via Hereford and Rhayader. Good ride over especially on the A44. Wished to god I'd worn my winter gear though as I was bloody freezing! 11 C in June FFS. Came back by way of Carmarthen which was a mistake as there were loads of villages which of course are all 20 mph. Couple of sneaky speed traps as well ( which I avoided). Some cheap petrol though £1.399 which wasn't bad.
