  1. If you are on a provisional licence the clue is in the name. It's provisional. You can drive a car but not without a fully qualified driver in the car with you or without L plates. You can ride a bike over 125 but only under tuition as a learner. You've not won the licence lottery!
  2. As I don't do any fettling particularly now I have a shaft driven bike all I carry is a Gerber multi-tool and a puncture repair kit including mini compressor. In the event of any kind of significant mechanical failure I have neither the skills, equipment or potentially spares to do any repairs. I'm not venturing off through some uninhabited wilderness so a credit card, a phone and a recovery contract will do for that.
  3. Couldn't agree more. Try and avoid the weekend if I can and when I'm on leave that is obviously pretty damned easy.
  4. If it was me I'd go for the bigger bike. The OP is old enough for direct to A2 but between deciding to start the process and getting the licence would be at least weeks and maybe months. If you are desperate to get on to 2 wheels the CBT is still quickest. Also what are you planning to do with the bike? 125 maybe enough in the short term. Bigger bike is always going to be more fun though and probably safer too.
  5. Either way has advantages but the quickest way to start on 2 wheels is the CBT and a 125. Make sure you get a Japanese one and avoid Chinese like the plague.
  6. Nipped over to Cirencester to pick stuff up and came back the long way round. Dry roads, sunshine and 11C. Not bad for Feb 1st.
  7. Met a few like that not just on bikes but in all walks of life.
  8. Oooh, cruel but funny.
  9. Standard mirrors get my vote. Rarely like the look of bar end mirrors.
  10. It's a weird one this trying to block you when filtering. The other one that irks is folks on motorway resolutely refusing to move over even with 2 empty lanes. I'm afraid I just undertake. My bad.
  11. Pretty shite then. Really shouldn't happen on properly sealed modern units.
  12. Bit of a wasteland for Guzzis in the NW. Nearest is Tyneside or Yorkshire which aren't exactly on your doorstep. I'm lucky it's about 7 miles away and a lot closer than Ducati was.
  13. No but someone who has a vintage collector's item usually does an awful lot of fettling themselves or uses a specialist mechanic with a good reputation not some cowboy chancer.
  14. Alternatively it could just be the car park is dusty? Can't say I see any suspension issues and generally folks who have vintage bikes in that good condition have them in an overall well fettled state.
  15. What am I looking at? Not familiar with KTM's.
  16. Obviously a candidate for nob of the day!
  17. My paternal grandparents used to live in Bebington and my grandfather was terminal manager at the Tranmere oil terminal. Not an area I'm entirely unfamiliar with although it's been a few years since I've been there.
  18. Decent engine sound is a key part of having a bike. A V twin has a special note.
  19. No touch screen on the Guzzi thankfully. Decent TFT but buttons to operate.
  20. This weekend we are back up north as I'll be breaking my two eldest grandsons out of school for the weekend then seeing my dad on Monday. Looks like I'll be going back to sea around 15 Feb but not anywhere exciting. Tranmere! FFS!
  21. Should add that I had the heating set to the lowest setting throughout.
  22. I would rather poke pins in my eyes than go on a cruise as a holiday. Or as they say - 2 chances - no chance and absolutely f**k all chance.
  23. I've got Keis inner gloves which I wear inside my normal winter gloves. They plug into the vest and when I rode from Northumberland to Gloucestershire a couple of weeks ago when the temperature varied between -4 and 1 my hands were always warm.
  24. Ummm. Yes?
