  1. Soooo as some of you may have read a few weeks ago I couldn't get my sump plug undone and I've only just got round to trying again. Firstly I went to my local yamaha dealers and bought a new sump plug as the old one had started to round off and for £3.80 I thought I might as well replace it whilst it's out, got home and left the bike to cool down for a few hours then went back out and fired her up and left her idling for 5 minutes, then with the help of a friend started round 2 vs the sump plug I tried the ratchet, a spanner, a hammer and chisel nothing wouldn't budge so my friend gave it a go same things happened it wouldn't move. Then he gave it one last go and hey presto oil was going everywhere so quickly put the bucket underneath and we thought all was good but how wrong where we! Looked down and noticed it was only the bolt shaped section of the plug that had snapped off allowing the oil out but the rest was still stuck in there bugger.. Lots of hammering with a chisel and swearing later the thing still wasn't out, it was falling to pieces so we used this to our advantage and hammer the chisel in and snapped the main ring bit in half then smacked it as hard as we could and the damn thing came free after about an hour of trying and me shitting myself about having to have it drilled out and the cost!!! Anyway it's out now and new one is in and so is the new oil filter, here's a picture of the old and new sump plugs.
  2. From what you've described you'd just need new brake levers and indicators plus the restrictor kit to get the bike rideable, then sort the fairings out when you have time.
  3. Ring up and tell them you don't want them to do anymore of the work and just pay for what they've done so far and do the rest yourself.
  4. That sounds about normal to me, you'll always get charged through the roof at a garage. You should've posted on here and we could've helped you repair it yourself

    Break! Help!

I'd roughen the area you're going to "stick" with some coarse sandpaper to give it better grip. Then just stick it together and see how strong it is, if you feel it needs strengthening add an extra piece of strong plastic over the crack on the inside of the fairing. Then wack a sticker over it
  6. I'll probably be more inclined to come once there's food available, last time I went from lunch time until 10pm without food just gotta check when my next Tuesday off is and sort my bike out!
  7. By the way it's a digital speedo.
  8. Went for an early morning ride and stopped at McDonald's for a quick breakfast, when I got back on my bike the speedo was all over the place jumping from anything like 7 to 35 to 46. It seems okay if I keep a constant speed although it jumps around a bit but generally stays the same but when I let go of the throttle it drops to 0 was working fine before I stopped! Any ideas? Cheers
  9. Mine is FI and it revs high when first started but I couldn't tell you how high as my bike doesn't have a rev counter!
  10. Does it stay at 4k then or will it drop after a while? Most bikes rev high on a cold start then will settle down to idle, how long depends on how cold it is. If the bike isn't very old I'd go back to the dealer and tell them about it, after all it's not something you could've caused. Then demand that they fix it

    Bad fuel?

It could be the oil rather than the fuel, generally all fuel is the same however I find supermarket fuel gives less mpg so I fill up at BP. Did you put the correct and correct amount of oil in? Tyre pressures okay?
  12. Have a read through this http://ultimatemotorcycling.com/motorcy ... -05-snell/ it explains about the different testing standards. I had heard about this but never actually read about it, to sum it up they're all tested to a basic standard but some are tested even further to qualify for higher standards of safety ie Snell.
  13. Buy a helmet that fits your head properly and it will do it's job in the unfortunate event of a crash. Don't worry about having the latest helmet, I got my Shoei XR1100 (something like that) for £250 down from £379.99 because it was last seasons model So my advice would be to go into a couple of motorbike shops and try helmets on of any brand until you find one that fits, a shop assistant will help you with this.
  14. A switch is easy to fit go to maplins or another computer shop and buy a switch, cut the wires you have installed and connect them to the switch either side, simples. I can't help with the fuse I'm afraid I bought one with a fuse already installed. Mine is wired directly onto my battery however it doesn't have a light on it so I haven't had any problems with it.
  15. Ground anchor, chain, disc lock & a cover. As already said above a cover hides what bike is underneath for all they know it could be a shitty 50cc Chinese cheese ped or a 1000cc monster machine, also makes a noise when it's removed! Don't have an alarm, looked at them in the past but no one pays attention to them.
  16. Cheers for the footage Joe. How far does the helmet fitting stick out? Can't really tell from the pictures..
  17. Oh and Allan said he's going as well
  18. Very tempted to join you all as I have that day off, but it's just the long trip to Cambridge that's putting me off can you join along the journey or is it just from the starting point?
  19. In Germany Sunday is meant to be a day of rest and peace and quiet, no shops are open other than petrol stations if you're lucky! You're basically no allowed to make a lot of noise, especially before 10am. How do I know? I lived there for four years

    Seized sump bolt

It's not rounded off as such Steve I'll attach a picture of what I mean, it was the best way to describe it. The socket I've been using is six sided. I'll try that with warming the engine before trying to remove it, but I'm going to order a new sump plug before I (try) remove this one.

    Seized sump bolt

What can I use to heat it? I just have your run of the mill household items.. It's underneath, and no it's not slipping the socket is getting stuck on the bolt because the edges are losing their shape when I try to turn it. I've tried hitting the ratchet whilst it's on the bolt but that didn't help either.

    Seized sump bolt

As the title suggests my sump bolt has seized I could not for the life of me get it undone. I stopped in the end because the bolt is starting to show signs of wear and I don't want it to become impossible to remove. Anyone got any ideas? Thank youuuu
  23. Cheers Stu, looks a bit complicated for the iphone! Might be getting rid of it soon so I'll just stick it out for now.
  24. I've never used it myself but I've heard BBQ paint will do, it's only gonna end up dirty anyway so I suppose it doesn't matter that much.
  25. I'll second that let me know as well, I'll be coming from Norwich but pass Ely so we could meet up and ride down together if I can keep up! Might pick up Allan (PetrolHead) on the way as well if he's got his CBT sorted out.
