Regardless of its legality I would be weary of how other road users will identify a flashing red light on a vehicle abruptly coming to an halt. Do you really want to delay their response time by a few seconds? a reduction in reaction time of 1 second will have a minimum distance 18m at 40mph. Personally I rather wait until drivers know the meaning of a red flashing light before fitting it on my bikes metres travelled per second 10mph 4.5m (15ft) 20mph 9.0m (30ft) 30mph 13.5m (45ft) 40mph 18.0m (60ft) 50mph 22.5m (74ft) 60mph 27.0m (89ft) 70mph 31.5m (104ft) 80mph 36.0m (119ft) 90mph 40.5m (133ft) 100mph 45.0m (148ft)

I believe the bike was brought into the UK around 2006, that's the bit of mileage missing. I think I need to get into the american shadow.net forum to find out more about it. Or, just ignore what was before and deal with it as it comes. I must say, the 500ish miles trip from London was as smooth as anybody can wish for. I had no issues whatsoever. Considering that a shadow is not a long touring bike, with a 12lt tank you can't go too far on it but the bike behaved really well. Can't tell for sure, but I think she was very happy to finally going to have a few good runs

I only got this last MOT cert. I don't think that the bike is only 15k miles. as you say the seat is too worn to be that little use, and the overall condition is not of a bike that has been sitting in someone's garage/shed and not run. Historical data showing the 2006 MOT WAS just over 13k miles. so for the look of it the bike didn't move too much since then having made 1,000 miles since 2015. I just don't know what happened before that. I'll have to play this one as it goes along, fortunately Honda are as tough as it gets so I don't expect any major issues.

Germany in September....Alps campsite recommendations
husoi replied to Shakyisslowas's topic in Touring
Hi, I usually use www.pitchup.com website for booking a campsite when I go touring. -
Now that the trailer project is near to conclusion and I have to wait for some of the materials for the pending project I decided to start looking into the small repairs to be done. What I thought was a nice purchase ends up it is in fact a rescue. Poor bike is in need of proper attention. I knew that the bike was in need of some TLC and that I would have to spend some money to bring it up to proper standard.. I have set a budget of £500 to £750 for all the work that needs to be done. The bike was 15,400 miles on the clock when I got it but I can't be sure that is not in fact 115,400 or that someone fiddle with the Odometer and rev it back. So far I have found: front tyre needs replaced, Air filter looks like the original from 86 The seats need upholstered, I decided to outsource this because I don't have the sewing machine to do it and I got fed up with pricking my fingers. Some of the chrome needs some painting, There are some good reviews on chrome paint so I'll be using that at £10.50 each spray can I'll be getting it. Lights panel needs rebuild, will be making a mould with the existing and will make a carbon fibre casing. As precaution will replace all the gauge's light bulbs, there are 3 of them and really dark. Will be replacing them with LED's Replace brake and clutch fluid If anybody doesn't know what is the difference between used and new brake fluid... Need to find some screws for the covers, the little buggers were all set in rust and tried to convince me that they wont leave. What doesn't need done Drive shaft fluid looks new front pads look new or with little use Read brake shoes (not sure as I won't be opening it) According to the owner the bike was serviced not long ago and the engine oil looks good. Next year I'll be replacing it together with the filter

Go and spend the points in a supermarket before they ask for them back The best and faster way to contact DVLA is via twitter. When I tried to contact them about my wee trailer the only way I got an answer was on twitter. Send a twit with @dvla as first word so it becomes a private message. Unless you want it to go public then you start with anything else

Hello again everyone Berwick, what I think will be the last stop before home. Yyeeyy 150ish miles to the tank just before the light comes up. Speed mostly over 60, trying to keep between 65 and 70. Don't trust the tyres to go anything over that but an idiot made me go to 85. No sweat for the bike. I think she really liked it Will make. Last post as soon I get home.

Well. Wetherby services. After rain in and around Selby then waze went mental and decided that would be great to explore the city and surrounding areas. Spent over half an hour to get back to the proper road. No issues with the bike Only issue is a wet bum

You would need to know me better fastbob to know that trains and me don't get along well The flight was a joy, 1:30 he after taking off was at city airport, 10min taxi and was in the hotel 10min walk away from the bike. Trains are not only more expensive but also takes forever even if you're lucky in not wasting time waiting. For the next one. Adding taxi to airport, flight and 2nd taxi I spent less than 2 train tickets, happy bunny and took me a lot less. Now having lunch in Doncaster

Your argument must be how much it will cost you to replace it with a identical bike. Unfortunately accessories and upgrades don't affect the value. They will always offer you a low value to see if you fall for it. Get back to them saying that if they can get you an identical bike with that money that you will take it. Ideally find one that you like and battle for the cost of it. Is pretty much like in cars, you can have an old banger that is worth £1000 and fit 4 super duper wheels costing twice the car but nobody will give you £3000 for it.

Let accept that you will have good and bad quality stuff from everywhere and that most stuff to be affordable must have cheap parts. Unless you are willing to spend a fortune on something that could cost 100 times less if manufactured in countries with cheap labour. If you make a rough calculation about the cost of a smartphone 100% European (not counting eastern countries) you would pay around £5000 (if not more) for an equivalent to a Huawei P40 pro made in the UK, Germany or any other "rich" country.

With parts made in? Wait... China Yes I know that.....obviously some components will be Chinese. But I'm not paying a Chinese company. Like some Beemers have assembly done in China........but anybody who buys one is not buying a Chinese product from a Chinese company. WAIT!! let me understand you. You don't want to pay a chinese firm for a phone made with parts made in China... So the chinese parts are free then. I bet you that most stuff you have at home will have parts made in China or thereabouts. Most components or even the whole thing and you never complained about it until some tw*t that actually is the biggest moron the US ever had as a president tells you that you must start hating everything coming from China. Interesting how people are afraid that Chinese will be spying on them by using Chinese goods butare willing to share information with crapbook, tiktok, google, yahoo, twitter, etc.

Good progress yesterday Electrics and number plate placeholder finished the 10 coats of wax on the cover, is now ready for final PVA coat and resin release agent layer will be complete and ready to work as mould for the carbon fibre cover. assembly with cover The electrics are almost done, all fully working (tested) inside box To be done (other than cover and cover fittings): Trim the carbon fibre around top and mudguards ( the proxxon drill got burnt and I'm waiting for replacement from Amazon) fix and cut the cable to size, close the junction box, trim the bolts and cover them with a bit of resin to prevent water ingress (same to do with all other openings) Fixing the box to the frame with U bolts Fit the number plate (already ordered, expected delivery midweek) drill holes for hinges, lock hatch, handle and opening holders Fitting hinges, lock and handle weight the trailer (no idea how I'll be doing it engrave information and fix VIN plate. Optional: Considering making separate compartments fixed to the side using the same fibre for tools and first aid kit so I always know where to find them

If you can get the space I would get even a small metal shed to put it inside. regarding insurance, a 2nd hand cheaper bike would drive the insurance down but not as much as you think because your postcode is one of the most expensive in UK and comprehensive premiums are not only linked to the value of the bike. Why not exploring the option of a ground anchor? There are a few options as GPS tracking devices that aren't that expensive and easy to install, you can track it on your phone.

The plan , and I would be very surprised if things go to plan, is to get the bike by 10:30 / 11:00 and come up via Cambridge then the A1. Depending on where the rain will be hitting I may need to go west instead east but I can only decide tomorrow. Google says that leaving London at 11am I'll be home by 9pm, but because this doesn't allow for any stops likely is that I'll be spending the night near Newcastle or thereabouts and arrive home on Sat. For some reason I can't upload photos in here from my phone so I'll be posting on twitter, that will make a change . twitter account is @husoi_paulo
