  1. the number is stamped on the chromed top mate and the same number is on the helmet lock as well.. not actually looked on the bottom of the barrel as its still attached to the bike lol...i will also add i dont have a key for that ignition barrel at all for a locksmith to use as a template.. therefore i think Yamaha would be the only place i could go to get one
  2. Just an easy one really and sure someone out there has done this at some point. I have a spare ignition barrel for my RS but no key for it. Now there is a number stamped on it which i would assume is the key number?? If so what do you need to do to get a new key cut.. Is it simply a case of going to a Yamaha dealer with the number or do you need to take the barrel too?..
  3. didnt know that mate... as it happens the battery is crap and only hold about 4 volts even after a charge... do have a new one coming though so will put it on and check again... thanks for the input fella's
  4. it probably does EAB i just havent seen it.... funny thing is the reg/rec looks fairly new as its clean as a whistle... still wont know until the new one arrives just checked the manual and its not listed oh well nevermind will check to see what it puts out
  5. have ordered one off the net costing only 10 inclusive of postage... after that all i can do is check the wiring... i seem to remember my old 77 rs100 had a lighting coil behind the left hand casing but dont think this one does as its not mentioned in the manual... i will check it out and see what voltage is being produced by the reg/rec and as its a 6v system what would you say should be the output voltage? about 8v max or more than that? thanks guys
  6. Guys i need some advice please.. I am busy goign through the wiring on the RS125DX as it has been butchered in a few places.. it became apparent that every bulb i checked was fried so i replaced a couple and sure enough they worked without the engine running.. now a started the engine and within seconds 2 of the 3 bulbs popped and the 3rd one was very bright indeed which leads me to think theres far too much voltage reaching them... I dont know much about that side of electrics so can anyone help me and give me an idea as to why this is happening.. dodgy rectifyer or regulator?.. the rectifyer looks fairly new however the wiring too it is non standard.. any ideas guys
  7. thanks for the input lads... problem is with making a new one is some of the plugs and fittings have been replaced with non standard ones which i have foudn out when i went to replace headlight bulb and the fitting is totally different.. same with side light bulb... second hand ones have usually been hacked as well so probs no better off than the one i have already... was hoping to find a NOS one but no such luck
  8. u can get new ones for some old bikes but have drawn a blank for this bike.,... problem is that the couple i have seen so far have been messed about with also... ah well will keep lookin and one might come up... cheers EAB
  9. Do any of you guys know anywhere i could get a replacement wiring harness for my Yam RS 125 DX as the one on the bike has been butchered and has a straight short circuit somewhere...
  10. thee you go then if yopu can hear the pressure releasing when u open the cap the beather is deffo blocked... Just make sure the cap for your bike has a breather... i think it will have but double check afore you buy one.. you coudl of course use it as is and just open the cap every so often
  11. sound slike the breather is blocked mate... when you release the fuel cap the vacuum created by a blocked breather is released and normal service is resumed... Alot fo fuel caps have inbuilt breathers so it probs needs a new cap...
  12. not really a fan of motogp anymore... kinda lost interest abit when the 4 strokes took over although the riders are very talented of course... prefer wsb and bsb but also supersport... Stilla huge F1 fan and the weekends race from China was a belter...for good old door banging action though BTCC is hard to beat tho
  13. lol aye true enough unless the voltage reg was totally creamed and chucking out serious voltage lol.... will have a look over the next week or so and see whats what
  14. Well done Kirsty... always good to get it out of the way... fingers crossed for MOD2 for u
  15. gotta multi meter or i will have when i can find the probes of course every single bulb might have popped but will see what happens when i get time to look at it..
  16. Ok i hope you lads can point me in the right direction... Just bought a 1978 Yamaha RS 125 and with the exception of the engine riunning and the horn the other electrics are dead... no lights, brake lights or indicators, neutral light etc... Now i can find my way around wiring fairly well but alot of the wirses have been replaced with ones of a different colour so th emanual is fairly useless... Has anyone an idea where to start as i believe the majority of the wire connections on these bikes are in the headlight bowl but not sure.. any ideas gratefully recieved
  17. ok thanks mate... appreciate ya help
  18. thanks for reply mate... sounds like a handful of a job but has to be done so as soon as i get fork oil i will do it... one further question which is i have the seals already but not sure which way they go in... one side is fairly flat and nondescript and other side has a resessed groove around the circumference with what looks like a spring running around inside the groove... forgot to mention on the top of each fork leg where the yokes are is a dustcap and when removed reveals a large allen bolt... do you remove this first or leave in situ and remove the forks as you described ??
  19. Hi guys, my RXS is just about ready for MOT and only needs fork seals doing and new oil etc.. Now my question is i have never done these before and wondered how difficult or easy they are to do... Have any of you done it and what is the job like to do? thanks guys
  20. my new edition.... Yamaha RXS 100
  21. thanks lads and fummily enough thats what i did last night lol... pumped it about 50 times and cable tied it... left it over night and will take a look shortly
  22. they do parts just not the seals lol..... or at least i couldnt find em on there
  23. They dont do them for the model i have... nevermind i will find something to fit
  24. i will take it back off again and check to see if the seal is in there... if not will have to try and find one to fit... thanks lads
