  1. Good evening. Chilly evening so the lounge wood burner is in use for the first time in a month.
  2. Too late. the paper has been on a variety of surfaces, most of them totally unsuitable for a downstairs toilet in a stone build part of the house.
  3. Of its time?
  4. The routes aren’t planned in advance. Particularly on last years trip as the weather was particularly, and unusually, inclement where we actually wanted to go. We had to check the weather forecast each evening then look to go where the weather appeared best and head that way. Which explains the odd route out to Val Cenis only to have to retrace our steps, for example.
  5. The actual routes, which were determined by the weather and which passes were open while we were there, are in this library on MyRouteApp https://www.myrouteapp.com/profile/routes/1033195#-1/name/asc
  6. What? The routes?
  7. Good(ish) evening. This evening we are mostly assembling the photographs from our last tour to be printed into an album (yes, I know, very 1960’s ). My role is to provide images, in .jpg format, of the routes on a day by day. What a pain in the derrière. eg.
  8. Err, what about the poor old pensioners?
  9. Mostly that’s the luggage capacity solely for my good lady. I get the small pannier.
  10. They’re nice looking machines in a retro way. I’d certainly like one in my “fantasy garage” as it would be ideal for pottering around the lanes.
  11. Cawfield Quarry on the Hadrians Wall path yesterday.
  12. Seriously envious. We planted dozens of the things last year and no sign of any. Probably ‘cos we’re nearer the North Pole. oh, and this stuff.
  13. That’s the one. The road to the south, from Langholm to Newcastleton is a nice little run. Single track with passing places, it’s not one for speed merchants but perfectly pleasant with fine views.
  14. That’s on the road from the A7 near Fiddleton to Hermitage Castle. The first half mile or so is more like trail riding, with gravel and potholes galore, but then becomes this pleasant little lane. If I find a moment or two I’ll share the route using MyRouteApp.
  15. We were all young and foolish once …
  16. There has been much discussion about “offsiding” as it’s often called. There are strong opinions in various sectors of the “advanced*” community, both in favour and against. My take on it is that I would always ask the question “does it make your ride safer?”. If not then there’s little point to doing it. *I use the term advisedly.
  17. Good evening. It’s a Sunday and I’ve been a bit busy hitting walls with an SDS drill and chisels. It’s a bit worrying when you encounter electrical wiring that does this… And for those of you who know about old buildings needing to breathe, the second photo is the non-breathable cement that had to be chipped off to reveal the stone walling.
  18. There are many superb roads up this way.
  19. Two Black Country guys chatting… “What’s the difference between a bison and a buffalo?” ”No idea. I’ve never washed my hands in a buffalo “. (Credit to Aynuck and Ayli’s author from back when I worked in the area).
  20. I went for an amble around the Scottish Borders yesterday. This is probably the best of the bunch of photos I took.
  21. Bloody Norfolk mates posting photos of their rides around North Norfolk when all the roads around here have great swathes of black ice on them. Still, I got chance to go for a bit of a stroll …
  22. The only thing I miss from Norfolk. Dry weather on New Year’s Day.
  23. Happy new year. I will be celebrating the first day of this circuit of the sun by tidying the garage. Oh, I know how to have fun (still beats the last day of the previous circuit - yesterday - which involved unblocking sewage). So what are you all up to?
