I have a very small holding of shares in Aviva. There has been an announcement regarding “return of capital” and “consolidation of shares” link below. A) It seems they’re giving us a “B share” value £1 for each share we own, and that will be immediately redeemed for cash B) they’re consolidating the shares such that (approximately) each 100 shares will become 75. Do either of these the total value of my share holding on completion? If so, why? Link to announcement. Many thanks.

The local community centre has announced it will be hosting live music. First up is Jo Harrop. Never heard of her. Until now. https://youtu.be/al7hnEP-u7o

Good morning. We’ve had a light dusting of snow here. Bloody cold outside. I didn’t expect to have the wood burner on until after summer but it’s lit and warming us nicely.

Particularly as we have visitors scheduled for this weekend. Now postponed.

My riding is always defective. Incidentally, in the junction situation, I always try to ride across their line of sight by moving across my lane. Traffic etc. Permitting

I’ve had a metallic taste and smell for a few days, shortness of breath (which I ascribed to asthma but since I was recently put on steroid treatment is unlikely), headache, stomach cramps, runny nose, and slight dizziness. My good lady is on the tail end of her infection, a few more days and hopefully no long covid, and she should be ok. I seem to be following a few days behind her…

What, and infect the people I’d be meeting?

Good morning. After two days of sunshine, with intentions of having a nice little jaunt out on the bike the weather turns grotty. And I test positive for covid. Bugger.

This… Though size of fairing is a factor, I was quite surprised how effective the relatively smalls(er) fairing of the R1200GS is after the FJR1300. I also used a MRA Vario on my Triumph Tiger 1050. It made a huge difference. You might like to consider that should your chosen bike needs a little more fairing.

Good morning. It’s bright and sunny, perfect for a jaunt on the bike. Unfortunately my good lady is still unwell so there goes that plan.

Unfortunately there’s still a lingering machismo in Judo, especially among the old timers, despite the tragedy of one of the U.K.’s best ever players, Craig Fallon, committing suicide not so long ago. No idea how you get past that.

I worked as an infrastructure PM for a large service provider for a while. It wasn’t an uncommon situation for upgrades to happen without understanding the impact. Or, in the case of the people I worked for (and since I signed a NDA, I’ll keep their name out of it) no upgrades / patches for 18months only to find latest customer software upgrades don’t run on it, and projects (most of mine) delayed or not feasible.

A friend of ours keeps bees. She talked to my good lady at length about bee management over dinner one evening. Bloody complicated if you ask me. We’re hoping a local bee keeper will put a hive or two on our paddock once we’ve made some progress towards it being a wildflower meadow.

My good lady has a bit of a sore throat. Certainly not enough to keep her off work if we weren’t retired. COVID still transmissible at this stage, so could readily infect others, so waiting until you feel unwell is not a good strategy, o at least, not if you have any concern for, say, the vulnerable. As I’ve been having problems managing my asthma recently, I really don’t fancy catching it. So testing after finding out we’ve been in contact with a confirmed case is a sensible precaution. Covid contagion study.

It’s rife. The figures are not looking pretty. I didn’t know as many people with Covid during previous surges as I know now. 3 of our kids, and partners / children have had it in the last few weeks. An acquaintance posted to a mutual friend (the wife of our old judo coach, must be nearly 90) that he’s love to visit her “now covid has gone away”. I despair.

We have some on order. Hopefully will arrive in the next day or so.

The best laid plans… Due to go for a short break to celebrate our birthdays (both happening soon), one of the kids who we’d visited the weekend sent a text to say she had covid. We tested last night. All clear. This morning, though, my good lady tested positive. We used out last LFT’s so can’t monitor my situation, which isn’t good given my asthma has been problematic these last few weeks.

Congratulations.

Can I nominate my ex-wife? Had a fall out with her nephew and his wife 9 yrs ago, hasn’t spoken to them since. He died recently, his funeral date announced the nephew’s family have said she’s not welcome (since we’ve been divorced 20yrs I have no idea of the detail). She’s still going. Our daughter is welcome and is going, so it’s going to make it difficult / embarrassing for her. Addendum. Nob of the day 47yrs ago? Me. For marrying her.

Alum Rock had a few residents of doubtful character (if you can get your hands on a book called Dojo Knights there are a few tales of people I knew). Bordesley Green Tech was a grammar school for those more inclined to head to work as toolmakers / draughtsmen rather than academia - that was Saltley Grammar. Many of the teachers were of the opinion “spare the rod , spoil the child”… Or their particular version of it (sandpapering a pupil’s foot !!!). I went to Wednesbury tech and Walsall tech for my City and Guilds. I’m not convinced I learnt much there though some must have stuck. Young’s modulus of elasticity?

Alum Rock? That would be for the wild fields of Washwood Heath and Bordesley Green. (I lived in Langton Rd, Alum Rock, and went to Bordesley Green Technical School).
