  1. How about Sunny Hunny seafront and Southend pier?
  2. Had a good run out today with Tango and bagged a few points. The sun was bright and low and I couldn't see bu@@er all through my visor (needs cleaning/changing). I spent the whole ride with the visor up so nose now pretty cold!! We didn't have the right resolution on the camera and the numbers kept flapping around in the wind. This is more complicated than I thought!!!
  3. The weather was sunny today so we thought we would make a start on collecting some local tags. People possibly wondered why these two bikes slowed down everytime they passed a pub though. Our local White horse at Eaton Socon St.Neots Market Square Cafe The numbers were blowing about a bit - have to find a better solution! Picture not too clear. Crown at Ickwell
  4. Hi Kyle Welcome to the forum. No you don't have to retake your CBT at 17. If, like my daughter, you go from a 50cc scooter to a 125cc geared bike at 17, it's worth taking some time around a carpark or similar to get used to the clutch and gears. If you can get someone to give you a bit of extra tuition at this stage then, so much the better. It isn't just about legality but safety. If you stick on the forum, I'm sure you'll have no difficulty in finding someone local to you who would be happy to help The A1 has to be taken on a reasonably powered bike such as a 125 and you aren't alowed to ride one on the road until you are 17 so, I don't think you can take it at 16. Hope this helps Mandy
  5. Apologies but I'm gonna duck out of this one. I've had a cold all week (it's now at the hacking cough stage) and I've been battling in to work with a couple of longish drives too ( day trips to Bristol and Gloucester). I don't think that 5 or 6 hours on the bike in the cold tomorrow is going to do me much good and it's forecast -1 to start the day. Looking forward to a lie in instead. Going to go along to the Marina tonight though (not that I can taste anything) and may have a short blast tomorrow to clear my sinuses Have fun and don't eat too many pies (it could affect the handling).
  6. Me and Tango should be around. We have the day off for Christmas shopping (guess we have to do it sometime )

    help needed

I tend to agree. If it will bump start OK then it sounds more electrical than fuel. Interesting that it seems to make a difference whether the bike is on the side or centre stand. This could be a red herring but could indicate a loose connection or short.
  8. I agree Tango and me went on Friday with Seawolf and her OH. The time just flew by - before we knew it they were chucking us out! Picked up some bargains too like a Honda winter jacket for my daughter for £30 to go with her CG.
  9. Scottoiler Renntec rack Panniers and brackets Flyscreen Optimate leads It's daft though - how can panniers and a rack be more dangerous than bungeeing everything to the seat? The scottoiler keeps the chain in good nick and the flyscreen stops wind buffeting. Gotta be safer, surely?
  10. DAS doesn't have to be done as a crash course, you can take lessons over several weeks ifyou prefer but they generally recommend being out at least once a week. Bike schools seem to offer packages such as CBT + X number of lessons including tests. I think they assess your ability at CBT and generally have a reasonable idea of how many lessons it will take and can advise you. Normally you need to book the theory separately. You need to have passed your theory before Mod 1(I think) but you don't need this for the CBT. You would normally do your CBT on a 125cc and then probably have a couple of lessons on a 125cc before moving onto a bigger bike and the tests. There are plenty of books on theory and riding skills around and you can try the theory and hazard awareness tests online to practice. Hope this is up to date - I'm sure people wil correct me if I'm wrong but it's based on people I know doing DAS a few years back. Best of luck
  11. There's a few events around in January/feb becase it is an otherwise slack time for dealers - depends on where you are. There's the London Motorcycle show and MCN Manchester in January for a start.

  14. Sounds good Bob (Tango) is away w/b 12th December with work so could we avoid that week if possible?
  15. Nice pics!! Cheers Ash
  16. Might be up for it but reserve the right to wimp out if the weather is bad.
  17. May also be worth considering that some bikers are a bit 'long in the tooth' and may need reading glasses to see anything that close. Not me of course
  18. Is your front suspension OK? Fork seals need replacing? Does the front end dip a lot when braking? Ony oil on the fork stanchions?
  19. Hi Arin and welcome to the forum I suspect you already know that there is no 'right' answer to this. 1. Finance - you need to allow for insurance, gear and training as well as the bike. I'm not sure how much a DAS course would cost but I suspect £600-700 - others would have a better idea. The cost for getting on the road on a 125cc would be Bike + insurance + CBTwhich is about £100 so it is a cheap option which would get you mobile. You could then have lessons on your own bike or take Mod 1 and Mod 2 in your own time which would be cheaper. If you took it on a 125cc you would have to ride a bike under 33bph for 2 years but that would would include the 250cc Ninja or a restricted bigger bike 2. The sort of riding you would be doing - If most of your riding is around town, a 125cc would be adequate for this and a light and easy to handle bike so an advantage in traffic. The 250cc is also light and agile and has the advantage that it would be OK for the occasional trip to London whereas that would be a bit much on a 125. DAS would allow you to get an larger unrestricted bike - more comfortable on longer journeys but a bit wasted around town - good if you are going to use it for fun as well. 3. Consider a second hand bike - most people drop their bike at least once when starting out. 4. What are your friends riding? - not the most important cosideration but if you think you may be riding as a group then you want something that can keep up. Best of luck - I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies

  21. The oil level should be checked when the engine is cold and not been running at all. Bike should be level, preferably steady on the centre stand (if it has one). It can take quite a while to settle down after a run so it is best to check it BEFORE going anywhere - also, if you get back and find the oil level is low - you may have already damaged the engine. Hot oil expands and the level will be higher than when the oil is cool. Someone once told me that (unlike with a car) if the oil light comes on, the damage is already done!
  22. My daughter, Rhiannon has a T reg CG125 with 20K on the clock and she reckons she can get 60mph out of it fairly easily.
  23. Yeah, fitted mine myself, it was really easy with the downloded instructions.
  24. I'd go for a two piece as it's more versatile. I've leathers and textiles and I sometimes wear leather trousers with a vented textile jacket when it's hot. They all have zips but I tend not to zip them together either. Be even harder to find a one piece for my even odder shape!
