My grandad wasn't racist as such......He hated everyone.......
  2. Ooopppss.......better luck next time.......glad to see your kit did its job......
  3. I keep my bike taxed over the winter, just for those occasional days where it's dry and bright.......went out on New Years Day a few years back.....roads were dry and fairly quiet round our way.......wasn't out too long, as it was still very cold......
  4. Deffo......lots of photos and a detailed, honest description of the bike.......and a valid reason for getting rid of it....... I sold my ageing Trophy 900 on eBay ........actually sold it to my OH's brother.....said he could have it for £1000, but it was already listed and bidding went over that.....but I was happy to let him have it for the agreed price, as I knew it was going to a good home.... The point is, sometimes you can be surprised at what someone is prepared to pay for your bike.....

Bad luck, Alan.......at least you won't have to take any time off work......

My jeans cost more than my DJ......admittedly my DJ was secondhand..... Had a work Black Tie do on Friday night......free beer though, so it was worth dressing up for.....
  7. Bad luck, mate.........If it's any consolation, my OH's daughter passed today.......on her 3rd attempt.......and, like you, she had similar experiences on her previous 2 tests....no minors, just 1 major on each.... Good luck.....#3's the winner......
  8. Yeah.....do the CBT and see how you feel about bikes after that.......maybe buy a cheap 125 and try that out on your commute for a bit and see if it's workable.......
  9. That rear shock and linkage look like they could do with some attention....... But, as the others have said, get yourself some new bolts.....and a wire brush and hammerite........
  10. Sorry to hear about your bike Emma.........is there somewhere near your boyfriends place where the kids ride off road? ......chances are it'll be in woods or rough ground near there.......worth taking a look around. Hopefully you'll get lucky and find it.
  11. Tacos?.........I like them, but who thought it would be a good idea to precariously balance spicy mince inside a brittle folded crispy thing?.....really?
  12. Check out secondhand gear on eBay.....you can get some bargains at this time of year....... Check out bar end mirrors......yeah, they increase the width of the bike, but I find they work well for me......
  13. I still get a bit nervous before going out on the bike, after over 40 years of biking......but once I get going my concentration takes over and I don't feel nervous anymore.....respect for the bike and other road users and conditions is very healthy.....
  14. Welcome to TMBF mate. ......congrats on the MOD2 pass....... When I first started biking it was my only transport, so I used them year round for many years.......These days I have a car for work, so the bike is now just a play thing for nice weather......but I keep it taxed and insured year round because a quick blast on a nice crisp, dry winters day can be very exhilarating. .....
  15. I'm afraid that you can only ride a 125cc on the CBT.......
  16. Welcome to TMBF mate. ........ I think you need to break out the voltmeter and start tracing the voltage through.....rather than just replacing parts. You'll obviously need a wiring diagram to help with this.....
  17. I've also got a Citizen chrono eco drive, which is solar powered and pretty accurate.........and a Suunto Traverse, which I use for walking, as it has gps, compass, altimeter, step counter and thermometer......and it's rechargeable......trouble is that both these watches are a bit bulky to go under my bike jacket cuffs......but my bike has a clock in the display, so the watch is pretty much redundant when I'm out on the bike anyway......
  18. I've got a G-Shock which I wear for work which is radio controlled and solar powered......changes the time automatically when the clocks go forwards and back.....and cost less than £100......and it takes a hammering at work.....still comes back for more......
  19. Welcome to TMBF mate. ........ Like above....anything is possible.....but whether it's worth it is another matter......and whether you'd be able to insure it after the change......

    Retirement?

This seems to be a topic that keeps cropping up in various threads.....so I thought I'd give it it's own one...... My retirement age went up to 66 a few years back.......but it's debatable whether I'll be able to afford to retire........which is a bit disappointing, considering I've always paid into the companies that I've worked for pension schemes.......and have a smallish free standing private pension. I pay the max into my current company's scheme......I put in 4% and they put in 8%........but when I look at my total pension pot it's pitifully small for over 40 years worth of contributions..... I also get very angry when I see the State pension being described as a benefit!.......I've never been out of work, and always paid my NI contributions......so, where has that money gone? Making people work longer is not opening up the job opportunities for the younger generations.......and the abolition of meaningful training and proper apprenticeships will leave severe skill shortages when some of my generation do actually get the retire or shuffle off. I read somewhere that the average age of engineers in this country is over 50..... A fair few of my colleagues who retired recently are back working on contract to cover the shortages......but at least the company has finally opened its eyes and started an apprenticeship scheme. ........However, last year they were looking at taking on 5 apprentices, only 2 applied, and only one of those actually took it on! And nearly all of the engineers we've taken on over the past couple of years are from Greece, Italy and Poland.....It seems that there's not enough younger people in this country with the qualifications or desire to do this job..... Anyway, what's your views on this?
  21. Brits? .....as in the people of this island who are derived from Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, French, Asian, African, various other European and middle eastern countries, etc?.......multiculturism is our entire history! Anyway.....With 20000 fewer police I guess they can't be everywhere......so I guess that they'll put the main police presence where there's a high concentration of people.
  22. My first off was on a diesel spill.......I was banked over when I spotted it, tried to stand the bike up but not enough room to avoid the spill......fortunately it was at fairly low speed, so no damage to me and minimal damage to the bike. There's not a great deal you can do, apart from minimal inputs to the bike until you're past it.....
