  1. Yeah....get some lessons and then put what you learn into practice out on your own. Then when you feel confident go for it.....

    FZ 8 Fazer

Yeah....water in the cooling circuit is under pressure which raises it's boiling point. Fan on mine comes on at 104 degrees......mid 80's while riding on open roads and climbs until the fan comes on in slow traffic.....but the temp drops when the fan is running. You'd know if it was the cooling fan.....just stick your hand (carefully) behind the radiator while the engine is running....you'll feel the air flow. Either that or leave the bike idling and watch the temp....if it gets over 100-110 you would hear the fan come on. Or.....find the fuse for the fan and pull it out...then start the bike and see if you can still hear the fan.....be careful not to run it for long with the fuse out in case it overheats and damages the engine. Or...best option is to take it back to dealer.....
  3. Summer's here........Stu's been out on his bike.......
  4. That's partially true roadtorque....but if a plug was breaking down as this is an in-line 4 you'd expect it to just misfire on 1 cylinder.....not cut out completely. Same with the carbs.....4 carbs all block at the same time....mmmmm? I'd go with total fuel starvation.....blocked fuel filter or a problem with the Fuel tap...is it vacuum operated? Check the vacuum line...has it got a kink in it.....or a hole? Or the fuel tap itself....maybe the diaphragm has a hole or is damaged. Can you run it on the Prime position? The other alternative is electrical......dodgy Run Switch....dodgy sidestand switch.....loose or corroded connections to the ignition circuit......CDI unit? Difficult to diagnose from a distance....but that's the sort of thinking I'd be using.... Our broadband connection is mega-slow tonight...so I can't even view your vid......but from what I saw the hazards and neutral light came on....so not a total electrical failure.....
  5. Citric acid is good for bearking down the glue....but hairdryer and patience are probably the best options......
  6. Good luck with it Joni..... Figure of 8 and U-turn?.......basically only use the back brake....grab a handfull of front and you'll almost certainly lose your balance..... Not too many revs, very slight slipping of the clutch to smooth the throttle out and a small amount of back brake should hold the bike steady. But then again I passed my test 36 years ago....so they may frown on that these days.....
  7. But that's part of the fun!.....
  8. Sarfend during the day....but will try to get back in time to have a little run up to the Marina...... See ya there.....

    Bike Stand?

So did you order those tings from Buster's? If you did I'd be interested in how you get on with them.....
  10. I think that hole is the fuel overflow.......but I stand to be corrected. Is there any kind of hole in the underside of the filler cap itself?

    Bike Stand?

Multipurpose Alan......he could either lift the bike over the wall......or just knock the f*cker down.....

  15. Ooohh...what are you suggesting Susie......Oohh....Oohh....suits you sir.....
  16. Thanks Susie & Rennie......we'll be taking you up on that offer later on..... No Tags for me or BonnieBird this coming weekend.....got Sport Relief 5k run on Sunday....all for charity though....so don't mind another weekend of no biking if it's for a good cause....
  17. Great news Zed...... Always nice to hear back when a fault is fixed....adds to the collective knowledge here..... Happy Days......
  18. Hey TC...they do decent food and beer in there too......Mine & BonnieBirds local.....5 min walk there.....15 min stagger back.....
  19. I think that was probably before they got the new mob in to run the show..... Maybe they are still holding the price for the Autojumble. Gotta say though it was a lot smaller than the previous years last year. George White's had a bit marquee there last few years....so they won't be there obviously. Anyway....we're just going along for the craik.....
  20. Yeah....it's gonna be a bit more than that now eh Steve.....
  21. I know what you're saying Steve.....we don't really need anything either....but it's more of a "holiday"....weekend away.....beer, live music, wander round looking at bike stuff......if we spot something cheap that's a bonus.....

    Calendar

Hey Guys....Stu has kindly provided a calendar so we can keep an eye on meets, rideouts and other events all in one place. So if you want anything included in the calendar, PM any of the Mods with details of the event, date and a link to the thread. Likewise, if you want to check what's coming up you can select the calendar and view it by week, month or Agenda to see what's on. Hopefully this will prevent events getting buried and provide an easy place to check what's on. Just wanted to pass this on.....
  23. Bump....
  24. Nice one Darren.....bit cheaper to run than the 1000...... Be good to see you again mate.....

    Tools

Screwfix do some decent tools too....... I've got 2 Halfords socket sets....large and small....and both have lasted really well. Draper Torque wrench......which has more than earned its keep. Decent Allen keys mate.......I got some from Screwfix and they're made from the same material as screwdriver bits....use them for work and they are really good. I don't believe in cheap screwdrivers either.....I have a couple of Teng Philips point drivers....one of them is a big f*ck-off b'stard and I've not found a screw yet that this won't budge..... But to be honest I think if it's just routine servicing you're gonna start off doing....then a decent socket set (or 2 different sizes), Torque wrench and decent allen key set will cover most jobs....then a few specific tools like Plug Socket, Front wheel spindle socket/allen socket, rear wheel spindle socket or ring spanner and see how you go..... Maybe a grease gun if your bike has grease nipples on the suspension linkages......and one of those oil collection bowls for catching the old oil.
