  1. In the process of carrying out a routine service on my bike recently I managed to shear one of the studs that hold the fuel pump plate assy to the tank..... Options were....New Tank.....but orange is not a common colour for Speed 4's .....so buying a tank and getting it resprayed would probably cost a fortune...... Drill out the stud and then feed a bolt through from inside the tank and somehow fix and seal it in place without risking having fuel leaking out......not an option that I found very tempting.... 3rd option was to see if there was anyone in the locality that had a Stud Welder and would be willing to do this......so Googled it and found a few places that had the right equipment. So I emailed a few on the Saturday.....I got an email back from Jon at M&J Engineering in Soham, Cambs who said he'd do it for me....but only after I'd emptied and flushed the tank as he didn't fancy taking welding equipment to a tank with petrol or petrol fumes in it. So once that was done I ground the old sheared stud off and Dremeled the recess where the old stud had sat. I took the tank over to Jon this evening and he put a new stud onto the tank....for the price of a drink.....what a top bloke.... I've still got to touch-up the paint around it....but I'm dead pleased with it so far..... But I'll be a bit more careful tightening those next time...... My Handy work with the angle grinder and Dremel New stud welded on.....just paint to make good now...
  2. Yeah...it's a real shame when these places close........sign of the times unfortunately..... Never used Allins as I used to frequent UFO more....but there are fewer around now, which is limiting choice......
  3. Check battery terminals and make sure they are tight......do the lights go down when you hit the button? If so, it could be the battery on the way out....or a loose connection on the battery. Start with the simple stuff....then work from there....
  4. So....a nice easy job then Stu......
  5. Yeah.....I had to drain and flush my tank as the guy who is hopefully welding a new stud to it said he wouldn't touch it if it so much as smelled of petrol..... Sparks and petrol don't go well together unless they are in a combustion chamber......
  6. Could be that the throttle cable is snagging....may need some lube down it. Also check how much free play you have in the throttle against the spec.
  7. Proper engineering.....like it... I got jealous....so I took my little angle grinder to my tank today.......just to grind a sheared stud off ready for welding a new one on.....
  8. Yeah....most dispatch riders I see have bar muffs.....so that may be your best option. I have some Spada Enforcer gloves...which do a pretty good job of keeping my hands warm for a while....although there are some doubts about just how waterproof they actually are. I've never ridden in the wet with them yet....but others have and say they leak after a short while.....so we'll see.

    rev count

You've gotta warm it up good and proper in this weather before taking the choke off......but if it's still doing it when warm then maybe lift the tickover up a bit.....
  10. Sounding nice craig......looking good too......

I don't know for sure....but I think 2000rpm idle would be a bit high for this bike. 1000 - 1200 I would have thought. Remember...this bike won't develop a lot of power low down.....so (in true 2-stroke style) you've gotta rev it to get it to shift.....
  12. You'll have it done this evening then Stu......
  13. The thing is michael....you've really got to try the lids on......it depends how much of a hurry you are in to get the new lid...but the best places are bike shows as you'll get better prices and you can try lots of different ones to see which actually fits best and will suit your needs the best. As Yorbandit said....the BMF show is coming up in May......plenty of helmets there to try and to buy....but there are other shows around as well.....that's the best advice I can come up with really....
  14. Oh.....OK then.....
  15. Ahhhh.....a true engineer........if you can't shift it with the FBH....get the angle grinder out......
  16. Congrats on the CBT Kevin....... Personally I would go the DAS route.......even when you pass it doesn't mean you've got to go out and buy 1000cc fire breathing monster......but the option is there should you want to. You could get a smaller bike to start with......and you don't have the hassle of fitting restrictors.....then move up to bigger bikes when you are ready..... Just my personal take on it......
  17. Have a look in the Tried & Tested section for Helmets.....there's a few reviews there that may be of interest to you.....
  18. I guess I must have missed something here Stu....thought you were selling the TL? Anyway.....new shock looks very similar to the one on my Speed 4.......spring should come off easy enough though.....
  19. Hey....nice job Alan.....it's come up really good.....
  20. Check out any secondhand Goretex stuff on eBay or whatever.....some secondhand gear is a real bargain. Got a couple of Belstaff jackets for winter riding recently for around £30 each....one is slightly worn but still good....and the other looks brand new.....
  21. Looking good craig...... What else are you planning for it after you get the cans back?
  22. Good job mate...... Is the old seal destroyed?......as I generally use the old one to drift the new one in.....
  23. Pavement Isn't that where the pedestrians are?.....
  24. Anyway.....hats off to Throttled for braving the elephants and doing so many tags this week.....you'll need a dram or two to take the chill from your bones I bet.....
  25. For 10 points it's really not worth it, well to me anyway plus I have clearly read the instructions and know that it's Tower bridge not some bridge close to Tower Bridge that counts ......the challenge will be getting close enough to Tower Bridge to get it in the photo with the bike......I often drive around that area and there's b*gger all places to stop.....all the roads are Red Routes...... Unless of course you could get the bike on one of the river boats.....or you time it so's the bridge is up and the traffic is stopped.....
