  1. Two?? Are they breeding??
  2. Like a cruise missile thats eaten too many pies. If you're down this way, i could introduce you to my dealer. They won't let you leave without you trying out an S1000RR.
  3. Ive got one built in. Sometimes when approaching junctions a quick glance and I mistake my speedo for the gear indicator. Split second of panic thinking I'm still in 5th gear when in fact I'm already in 1st doing 5mph.
  4. Save your money mate. Its a nice gimmick but it won't help you're riding.
  5. the fine for driving uninsured is less than the insurance premium, so you can guess what many young people are choosing to do..
  6. Well done, now change the brake fluid and you'll have awesome sharp brakes
  7. I like the idea of Bluetooth tyre pressure sensors..
  8. Problem solved chaps! So I took off the cooker switch and the terminals inside were corroded. Where its located it gets a lot of steam from the kettle. I replaced the cooker switch but before connecting the earths from the hob and oven i measured the voltage between their earth leads and the supply cable's earth. The oven's earth cable seems to be at abouy 50v and the hob's earth is about 20v. So I think the metal socket wasn't correctly earthed to the supply cable earth, but it was earthed to the oven and hobs. So the metal face plate of the cooker switch was at 50v that was leaking from the oven. The kettle socket is correctly earthed so when the metal tape went between the cooker switch face (at 50v) and the correctly earthed kettle, 50v sparks flew!! Ive got a socket testing plug so I'm testing them all now..
  9. Yep, its weird!! And if I touch either the socket or the kettle I feel no shock, so neither are at full 240v Its only if I touch both the kettle and socket together, completing the circuit do I get a shock (tried it this morning). The multimeter reads 55volts between the kettle and the socket, so I guess its enough to feel a tingle but not enough to trip the breaker. More investigation needed..
  10. There is only the cooker and hobs attached to the switch. The cooker is integrated, so i'll need to lift it out of the cabinet - a heavy lifting job for tomorrow. i'm hoping its not a faulty appliance, as thats gonna cost me money! weird that the RCD is not tripping though...
  11. curiosity got the better of me. I just braved the rain to get the multimeter from the garage. Im reading 55volts between the oven socket and the socket on the kitchen ring. when i Isolate the oven, the voltage drops from 55v down to 2v. So tomorrow i'll take the socket apart and have a look for anything obvious. hoping its not one of the applianced (oven or hobs) putting power back down the earth, but if it was, surely that should trip the RCD?
  12. it doesn't matter what their supplier says, your contract is with the garage, and it's their duty to ensure the goods are fit for purpose and the services are provided with reasonable skill and care. read this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8253915.stm
  13. cheers. so im not the first! IVe got a tester plug with three lights on that tests the connections. i'll dig that out tomorrow and test all my sockets. its strange that i get sparks, but cant feel any shocks, and dont trip the circuit breakers... I must admit, in not brave enough to touch one hand on the kettle and the other to the socket though - not until ive got my meter on there and know what to expect!
  14. I was measuring the width of my kitchen tonight with a metal tap measure. I hooked the tape measure over a metal faced plug socket. As the tape touched the spout of my metal kettle, sparks appeared! Thinking the kettle or the plug socket might be live, i very cautiously touched each one in turn to see which one would give me a shock.. but both were fine - no shocks So, whats going on? The kettle is on the main kitchen ring circuit, and the plug socket is the main switch for the oven on the oven circuit. So it seems i have a potential difference between the earthed kettle and the earthed socket face on different circuits. I have a recent consumer unit with everything connected to RCD's but non of the RCDs tripped out when the sparks appeared. Any sparkies on the forum? is it normal to have a potential difference between earths on different circuits in a domestic installation? Tomorrow i'll be getting the multimeter out...
  15. I very nearly traded my 200SX turbo for a supra..
  16. My boy racer car was a pug 205 GTi. Started life as a 1.6 but I bought a race tuned 1.9 engine off a bloke who built slick50 race cars. Bolted it to the 1.6 gearbox to create better acceleration. Had avo coilovers, tsw blade alloys and a whole bunch of other mods like group-n exhaust and Fse fuel pressure regulator and K&N cone filter. It was a fast little car, easily beating the local RS-Turbos and XR4i's despite the stickers they all seemed to have on the back claiming they were 300BHP!!
  17. Haha yes. I started to do it.. Just edit out any dodgy bits

    Oil top up question.

Mine drinks about that much between oil changes too. Reason I know is that I topped it up the day of its annual service so I didn't look like a bad owner
  19. i suspect the light that came on was oil pressure light not the oil level so you rode it for a couple of mins with no oil being pumped around. I also suspect the damage is terminal... RIP.
  20. Go onto eBay and order a pair or Enfield garage locks.
  21. Are the valves noisy? I wouldn't worry too much about clearances right awqy, unless it's a rattly old thing, and even then, there is an old saying that noisy valves are happy valves.
  22. maybe its just the "sevenoaks massiv" who drive bog standard shopping cars... every other halfords in the country has as respectable number of modified cars hanging about after hours.
  23. yep, probaby all mummies shopping cars... you cant look cool driving your mums Vauxhall corsa! its tragically disappointing... I bet If we rocked up in a modified sierra cosworth, or escort RS-turbo, or pug GTI or any other modified car from the mid nineties, i bet they would complain because it didnt have air-con and might be a little uncomfortable over speed bumps...
  24. That was my first thought, but i disagree. Its never stopped kids making undisclosed modifications in the past, so why should it now? have kids suddenly become less rebellious? i doubt it.
  25. ... Are frankly, pretty disappointing!! (rant time) I popped into my local MdDonald for a late dinner tonight, and in the Halfords carpark opposite was a crowd of youths parked up, standing around their cars in hoodies, chatting and looking "cool". No problem with that, in fact it brought back happy memories of my own misspent youth. What was disappointing was the cars they were driving. All the cars were totally bog standard crap mobiles. Not one car had any modifications or anything to make them stand out or "special". Back in my day, if you rocked up to a halfords carpark out of hours in a bog standard 1.1 litre car with plastic hubcaps, you'd be laughed off the industrial estate!! 10 to 15 years ago, the same carpark probably would have had a load of modified cars, driven by youths who were not afraid to have a go, and wanting to make their cars just a little bit different. Lower suspension, big wheels, loud exhausts, big stereos, crazy paint jobs etc etc. Tacky to us maybe, but certainly a lot cooler than a bog standard ecobox. So as i sat there in the carpark munching my old school BigMac meal, i was wondering at what point did it become acceptable for young lads to drive crap cars, and why? very disappointing that the youths of today have no idea how to work a set of spanners or know how to modify their cars.. if this continues, shops like Halfords will have no customers to sell tools etc to, and us older generation will be seen as strange for wanting to get our hands dirty and work on cars/bikes!
