  1. you must have read my mind although it would never happen due to the risk of people doing one hmmm wonder what interest rate I could charge We're going totally off topic, but the engine's knackered anyway, so i'll carry on... you can mitigate the risk of someone running off by spreading the loan across a number of members. So lets say someone needs £300 to buy a new motor. 30 people lend £10 each, the loan is settled on the agreed date, and each get back £11. the borrower has paid £30 in interest, and nobody has risked more than £10. "Peer-to-peer lending" at its finest
  2. The forum should start doing "payday loans" for when cool stuff comes up on ebay and members needs to borrow some cash
  3. Dont we know someone who's dad can fix dropped vales in 10mins?? ;) Whip the head off, see the damage, buy a new engine.
  4. Thats the noise my Mirc made when its cam chain pully snaped and the timing chains came off. like the noise of someone dropinng a heavy chain on the floor. If thats the case with you, your engine is dead - RIP.
  5. dont think they are waterproof... if you ride in the rain you'll get wet feet!
  6. If you factor in your own time at a rate higher than national minimum wage, its a very tricky excercise to turn a profit, unless you are a very fast worker or you manage to find lots of great bargains that won't take much time to restore and can sell quickly. If you have plenty of free time and just want to do it as a hobby, then yeah it should be possible.
  7. 156miles for me... So that's just under an hour on my new bike Gonna make a proper effort to get there this year!
  8. expect we'll see a load of them pop up on eBay as soon as they start shipping..
  9. Wonder if he'll be keeping all the driver aids switched on, or will they all be switched off?? I love the s1000rr. Hoping to get one at some stage. Might have to get one soon before this news causes everyone to want one!!
  10. Know what you mean. I get ignored in bike showrooms quite a lot. I have to be smartly dressed for my work all week so at weekend i tend to dress down... I guess in my scruffy weekend gear I dont look like I can afford to buy much... Or maybe they are all mind readers and can tell I'm just there to browse. I've found the best way to get noticed is to climb onto a bike and start leaning it from side to side. The sales guys virtually sprint over to see what's going on
  11. Its ok, im going to locate all of your many horse riding friends and point them to what you've been saying about everyone who rides horses... I think you've clearly got issues... maybe stemming from a deprived childhood when all your "many many friends" got a pony for their birthday and you got a lump of poo?? maybe thats why you hate horses and horse poo so much....
  12. So how did the case against the tracker installer go?? interesting to know if you're still going ahead with it...
  13. Good I won't bother to demean myself by commenting on your ignorant ranting Oh I'm sorry, you disagree with me so use the term ignorant? Ignorant by definition is incorrect you realise? Everything I speak of is absolute fact mixed with opinion. The fact that I can envision you foaming at the mouth whilst writing that tells me that your a fan of horses and believe they should populate our roads which is the only alternative to my opinion. You'd demean yourself in engaging in debate with me? Yet another insult. I'm here to make friends not have people abuse and insult me for an opinion I have voiced, and stand by to the death. Like I said I'm not here to argue, if you have a difference feel free, but don't make it personal. You never know I may have been some use to you some day. You have a strange way of making friends, and for the record, you were the one who made it personal with your barrage of insults about anyone who owns horses... If you cant ride a bike well enough to avoid the horse poo, thats your problem, not the horses!
  14. The arrogance and naivety of youth - we've all been there... Luckily most live to grow out of it...
  15. A strange response in my opinion. What's wrong with just going out for a ride without constantly having to push the boundarys of what's physically possible on a bike? Just enjoy the ride instead of testing yourself all the time. Biggest threat to bikers is taking corners too quickly. If we was cave men thousand of years ago then id be the one who left the cave to see what was on the otherside. Rapidly eaten by wild animals.. Every civilisation has its sacrificial members its Natural selection at its finest...
  16. Nothing will.. they wont be cutting the ground anchor, they will be cutting the chain with a big pair of bolt cutters. However if you have a chain thats too thick to fit in the normal size bolt cutters that might slow them down... My idea was to cover the chain in 2inch thick plastic coating that will make it too wide to fit in the jaws of most bolt cutters.... just a thought... Edit: typo
  17. Anyone who lived in the country and cant deal with horse poo on the road is like the idiots who move next door to a airport and then complain about the noise. if you cant handle a bit of poo on the roads, move to the city!!
  18. dog shit and horse shit are very different substances! Dogshit is nasty digested meats, whereas horse shit is nothing but digested plant material - its a great fertilizer and really is not very harmful to humans, whereas dog shit can send children blind. There is no difference betwen riding through mud (decomposed plant material) and riding through horse shit. Keep your eyes open ride round it, and stop moaning! if it wasnt for horses, we wouldnt have roads...
  19. nice result mate!!! keep this one locked up
  20. Cow poo is worse!! Where I grew up there was a road we used to call "cowpat canyon". So called because it was always smothered in cow pats. We used to dare each others to ride down the hill and through cowpat canyon at top speed on our BMXs. Inevitably one of us would slip off on the stuff and then be laughed at by the other lads until we got home and got slung in the shower by our mums!! Horse poo is like little tennis balls - great for chucking at your mates during a poo fight
  21. Right then, who's going to this?? There is a chance I'll be able to get there on the Sunday.. Not confirmed yet so if any of you lot are planning to be there on sunday I might see you there!!
  22. Seems many like to blame other drivers... Not my vote. I voted oil as its the only hazard in the list you have no chance of predicting.
  23. Hi-vis clothing.. People wearing it think it will help others see them.
  24. How do you figure that out?? Power to the bulb doesn't just stop when the bulb blows

    Be your own Mechanic?

With the internet, its a lot easier than it used to be to do your own repairs. You can typically search for the job youre about to do and find loads of info from other people who have done exactly the same job before. My advice would be to get the Haynes manual, read it cover to cover a couple of times, buy some good quality tools and get stuck in!! If you hit problems, Google it or ask on this forum. Good luck!!
