Six30 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Guy Martin on Top Gear.. Who ever said that should be shot.Exactly.What makes top gear interesting is that Jeremy is a nob (as stared by James may) who keeps messing stuff up.Guy Martin knows nothing about cars, but seems to be good at everything he tries. Also is it just me who thinks guy's voice gets really annoying after a while?? Yeh after 5 minutes . Quote
klingelton Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I like guy martin. Seems like a top bloke. From what i've heard, he amiable most the time. Would be nice to see a decent bloke on topgear.would also like to see Steve Coogan, who would be equally funny without the controversy and casual racism. Quote
fq-craigus Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Guy martin knows nothing about cars? Do your research on wikipedia by any chance? I think he may surprise you. As much as i like guy martin i couldnt watch him turn top gear into another 5th gear type factual car show its supposed to be a blokey show that makes your sides split. Jonny vaughn? Really? Quote

I totally agree.Just let top gear die in peace, the time has come, this grasping at straws is the beeb realising how much they stand to lose now. Quote
RantMachine Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 things that the public wants to watch and not what they think we should be watching! That sums up the BBC better than anything else I've ever read.Thinking I won't get a license at my new house, I only really watch stuff on Amazon Prime anyway. I used to love a bit of Top Gear when I was at uni but certain people complaining insufferably about it led to me not really watching TV any more. No great loss. Quote

mpl Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Bit late to the party on this but here is my tuppence worth.I personally don't find Clarkson offensive but do not find him remotely funny either. Top Gear as a programme seems far too contrived these days.As for the BBC not making good programmes, I offer you anything by Attenborough and a lot of what is on BBC4- excellent diverse music documentaries. Oh and 6Music.Also if you have any device that is capable of watching TV regardless of whether you use it for that purpose you are required by law to have a tv licence. And if I punched someone at work, I would be sacked on the spot despite being much funnier and less offensive (to others) than Clarkson! DreamytimeEscorts Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Also if you have any device that is capable of watching TV regardless of whether you use it for that purpose you are required by law to have a tv licence. You don't know what you're talking about. You only need a TV licence if you're watching it or recording it as it's being broadcast. You don't need a TV licence for just having a TV or any other device capable of receiving it. Quote

Ive been dealing with them now for 15 years. Ive had 7 home visits (usually about 8pm) and I get a letter every month. "what to expect in court". it goes in the bin. They are terrified of video cameras. absolutely scared stiff. and RUN if you ask them to wait a moment because you want to grab a camera and record the conversation. That is now my weapon of choice. I don't cooperate in any way.then within days another 'what to expect in court' letter arrives. and so it goes, over and over and over again.By far the worse thing though is they give you the option of telling them online that no license is required. they ignore that and turn up anyway.. and if you do let them in and they see no TV. you'll then get a letter describing how some people have TVs UPSTAIRS!! and.. if you do - thats an offence and heres what you can expect in court!!over and over and over again.one guy called me a freeloader because when he turned up and came inside. I was listening to Radio 4... "you do realise thats paid for out of the license fee!!"well-I-never. Quote

Throttled Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 Guy Martin is an interesting bookies choice to replace Clarkson. Since I think the US Top Gear works with three presenters who gell, I now think the UK Top Gear should keep going as it is with new presenters. Quote
DreamytimeEscorts Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Am I the only one who isn't that fussed about Guy Martin? Quote
DreamytimeEscorts Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Lol You're a rude bast*rd! If I had a pound for every time someone said that I'd have enough for a small round of drinks Quote
techno Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Am I the only one who isn't that fussed about Guy Martin?Nope I think it's more a choice as he's popular than anything to do with expertise. Top gear is a program that's sold around the world most of the UK would be lucky if they understand him. Quote
Six30 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Fook off Guy Martin , go and pull your self off in your van. Quote
onesea Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Clarkson had lost there edge any way. The fact that May and the Gerbil could not even manage 2 programs with just a cardboard cut out to back them means they must go to .... Then again maybe Clarkson already knows the moneys that are being offered by Skye or who ever and they are just waiting for a wage increase. Either way the formula was tired and needed refreshing. What replaces it will not be better, that team was special and only comes once a in a blue moon.As for TV licenses sorry its the one tax that I do not mind paying you know where it goes you know what it supplies. The content may not be great but they don't have the budget of the big boys Skye and the rest. Its amazing when abroad how many people turn to the BBC news & world service when they want to know what's happening. Its one of the last things out there that makes Britain stand out against the rest of the developed world. For 50p a day its a tax I do not object to. Quote

Clarkson isn't going to Sky.Losing his edge is something 1 million petitioners would perhaps disagree with And while the fee is cheap, one of the chief directors is Danny Cohen... A man who prior to the Saville inquiry tried to get a program on air that glorified his service to television. He got caught basically trying to cover up the whispers of Savilles growing victim count. Then claimed ignorance... With that pillar of darkness at the top I can't say I'm happy I pay for him to be there...As for the whole Clarkson thing, he had a dust up after work had concluded. I've witnessed a couple of office dust ups and they usually go no further when one or both deals with it. Even I've had a dust up with an employee outside of work years ago, he was drunk, didn't like I got chosen for an aspect of my work and he went for me. Did I care? Not really as it was just a dust up.This inquiry was an instant decision, look at the report, we knew those points 2 or 3 days after the suspension. The BBC just had to be seen to be "thinking about it" to reduce the backlash. Quote
Inithra Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I don't think he lost his edge, it was taken away from him when people started threatening his job for making jokes that nobody got offended by, but pretended to because they didn't like Clarkson. I didn't even click that the slope on a bridge joke could possibly be deemed racist until the news broke that a complaint had been upheld. I saw a wonky bridge. Then there was the UNAIRED footage of the word nigger (It is NOT racist to USE the word, it is racist to CALL SOMEBODY the word) being MUMBLED, and that was the last warning.Wasn't paying the license fee before, certainly won't ever again, if they make more episodes I will watch the first one online, if it's any good I will watch others. Maybe they will get rid of the shitty "Celebrity in a car" bit? Unless it is an actual interesting, famous, funny, celebrity, I always skip those. Who the f**k is Olly Murs anyway? Quote
