Mawsley Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 (edited) I looked at the BBC weather app yesterday. "Hmm, just clouds," I thought because it showed me a picture of clouds. Clouds are OK, I can deal with clouds. What I can't deal with are liars. The people behind the BBC weather app are bigger liars than a politician fused with an estate agent. The app may as well say 'Fudge you, Dave. Even if the weather is awesome we're going to make it shit wherever you are.' The BBC are liars, we all know what the weather was like today - it was awful to the power of cold monsoon. No worries, I am wearing the Oxford Bone Dry jacket. It's a fetching ensemble completed by some £6 waterproofs (from a Blacks end of season clearance five years ago) and a pair of brand new walking boots. My knees were cold, but dry. My feet were warm, but wet because the trousers rode up.So, who the flip came up with the name "Bone Dry"? I suspect it was an ex-BBC app weather bod. Bone Dry aptly describes how well the jacket works if you use it in place of a pair of pyjamas at night time. Or maybe you fancy wearing it in the car. Or, just for thrills, you pop the Oxford Bone Dry jacket on when holidaying in the Sahara during a drought. But try wearing it while riding for five hours up the M5 in the rain - bone dry is the very bloody last thing I was. Two stops to dump the wet shirts and jumpers for dry replacements...I need me some new wet weather gear. Anybody able recommend me a decent jacket and boots? MR_W Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Rst Tractech Evo waterproof boots. 5 hours in torrential rain on motorway, let sod all in. RST textiles also kept rain out too. I use the textile cpx jacket in the wet and I can't remember the model textile trousers but the latest models should work just as well. Quote
Tango Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Dunno if they've got any left, but the Tempest jacket on the Triumph outlet site looks a good bet for £50...... http://www.triumphfactoryoutlet.com/jackets.html?p=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Or look for some secondhand Rukka stuff....... Dunno how good these boots are. ......but they're Goretex....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dainese-Fulcrum-C2-Motorbike-Motorcycle-Touring-Goretex-Waterproof-Mens-Boots-/291737585275?var=&hash=item43ecea467b:m:mx6hGjjehdnAIvcUa0GGybQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote

Arwen Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 The halvarssons / lindstrands / Jofma range is fantastic in my books. I've got the cheaper end of the scale Jofma trousers and a mid range lindstrands jacket and both have kept me bone dry during torrential Scottish downpours. Quote
Joe85 Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Is there anything that can with stand the installation of a tail tidy?Feel like im sitting in a bowl if water whenever it rains Quote
Mawsley Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 The halvarssons....Looked the business, but then I found an MCN review reporting a leak.I don't get that a jacket this expensive can still let the rain in. I'm coming to the conclusion that nothing would have kept out today's weather. Maybe what I want from a jacket is too much to ask? Quote
fullscreenaging Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Do some research on Rukka. It's expensive, but works flawlessly. My suit has not let a drop in. There are a few on here that swear by Rukka also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
mozza83 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Take the car instead?? I never get wet when I take the car.And I can recommend the Met Office weather app, it is the most accurate weather app I've foundSent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk Quote
Remy Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 It's foolish to take any notice of BBC weather as it's usually the complete opposite of what they forecast. Usually they put up icons of rain, sun and cloud to cover themselves for every eventuality, although they are probably not too bad at forecasting what the next couple of hours are going to do.As for wet weather gear, I don't generally ride in enough of it to make a useful comment - but have been caught out in some pretty hefty downpours. My Daytona boots are 100% waterproof, I have several textile jackets (a girl can never have too many) including IXS and Furygan and they have all kept me dry. But talking about persistent pouring rain for hours on end I suspect there aren't many that would stay bone dry - however friends who do ride in all weathers tend to rate Halvarssons. Quote
Hoggs Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Ex-army gortex on ebay is always worth a look. I have some overtrousers that I picked up for £14. Much better than the Richa ones I had that leaked all around the seat seam and left you sitting in a puddle of water Quote

Excellent call. Now to hunt for some new boots. Quote
RantMachine Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 My Oxford "waterproof" gear is pretty shite too - I think my summer gloves keep the rain out better! Quote
Throttled Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I was not impressed with Oxford Bone dry either. If you are wealthy get gortex kit. IXS do some great gloves. If you are poor then waterproof over stuff is the way to go. Loads of it about. I have a mix of Spada and Held. Quote
Mawsley Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 Arrived yesterday. Great fit, heavier than a fat kid who doesn't like PE. Quote
Joe85 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Had enough today. Felt like someone had shoved a garden hose down my trousers. Buying some Dainese gore-tex kit. Quote
Valko Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Had enough today. Felt like someone had shoved a garden hose down my trousers. Buying some Dainese gore-tex kit. +1 I bought Dainese Lontan pants. They are laminated Gore-tex. I found them discounted for £220 - bargain IME the only gear that worths in rainy weather is laminated Gore-tex. No need to buy Rukka though. There are plenty other lamineted gear.I am looking for a jacket now. Dainese Stradon is too expensive. Probably will buy Scott Pro laminated or Dainese Atlantik. Quote
Joe85 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Im looking at the Carve master jacket and D explorer trousers. Hope they are worth it. Quote
Valko Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Im looking at the Carve master jacket and D explorer trousers. Hope they are worth it. Not sure Joe both are Gore-tex membrane not laminate. That means they are 100% waterproof, but the outer material will get soaked with water that means they will get very heavy and then you need many hours to dry them out.The pants are about £30 cheaper then laminated Lontan D1.http://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=119490604&ViewAction=ViewProduct" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
