Hi, if you've brought the bike from a dealer get him to come and get and it sorted. Also get him to give the rest of the bike a once over as well. It could of ended up being real nasty if the chain had managed to slip loose. As Stu has already said, and l also agree, l have never had a drive sprocket nut work loose in 40 years of riding bike, most drive sprocket have a lock nut or a tab washer to secure them in place, normally there a pain to break out.

If your going to fix it yourself just be sure that the splines on the drive shaft has not been damage or the sprocket splines has not been rounded off.

Welcome to the world of biking

That sucks foxy. As others have said its not common on other makes. I know that me and Hoggs had problems undoing the sprocket nuts on the Kwaks.

Ha yeah kwaks are a bugger to get off!

OH advises the original problem nut was 8mm depth and as it was a known issue they made a bigger 12(?)mm replacement but helpfully with the same part number so watch out! If the dealer is replacing make sure it's the bigger size

Also as I think Tango said you need a tabbed washer to go with it to prevent total falling offness!

So the garage has called me back and will come out (hopefully next week) to sort it. They were genuinely shocked that there is no sign of a nut or washer. So I guess they will need to order one in. I just need to wait it out now.

Thanks for all your help today, eased my mind as I wasn't a happy bunny this morning. Glad I found this place with some very kind folks knocking about.

Speaking of kind, a biker rode past me today when I was having problems turned around and took time to come and see how I was doing. Really decent of him I thought.

Geez, ok so they come just come off? how easy is easy fix? The dealer is some miles away and not sure how long it would take. when they can pick up etc.

Thanks

Going to try and make my way back to work on the trusted 125!!

Buy a nut and a new washer, you have lost the washer too. When you add tne new nut and washer make sure you bend the washer - the washer is designed to prevent the unlocking if you bend it properly. Add blue loctite on the nut before you tighten exactly as per specs. Then bend the washer. This way will never come off again itself.

Exactly the same nut off has happen to me last week on my old Fazer FZS600. Because I am too lazy and have not bend the washer nor added blue loctite on my last sprocket/chain change 4000 miles ago

Further update.....

I have got the front sprocket back in place(see pic)

http://s800.photobucket.com/user/martash2009/media/IMG_20161008_104929768.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

is it now just a case of getting a washer (that can be bent over) and a new nut? Cos I think I could manage that. :D Fixed for £20ish.

Also do you know what size the nut is because I need to get a socket at the right size.

I'm looking at this nut

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361712993775?clk_rvr_id=1106109764139&rmvSB=true

and this washer

Would this do the job, assuming R6 nut is same size as FZ6 of course.

Thank you once again. :)

Handy online microfiche site

http://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-motorcycle_model16707/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Find your model select the year and look for relevant section it may give sizes etc ... sometimes original new parts can be cheaper than generic eBay equivalent and on shelf in local stores or if you have part number a search can give those results

Bike is being picked up for repair and inspection on Thursday, not sure when i will see it again though. Can't come quick enough.

Not sure what is worse - having a working bike without a licence to ride it, or having a broken bike with a licence to be able to ride it. both suck to be honest.

I'm completely off the road now as if i want to swap my insurance back to the CG its another £35 admin fee, then will be another £35 to change back when FZ6 is fixed.

Pretty fed up right now.

Actually I have the parts ordered to do it. My worry is if there is further damage I can't fix. I would rather do it myself obviously as I want to be back on road asap

Although just checked and part I have ordered is for a fzs 600. I hope it's the same fit......

Yes not happy about the 50 I have to pay. But the invoice/warranty does clearly state return to base which i hadn't picked up on. They are trying to fix it for me trouble is I'm soooo impatient and therefore hate waiting. Added to that my other bike (cg125 now up for sale) is off the road. All in all a little frustrating.

Looks like I'm paying £50 for it to be transported as well!!

Youre getting shafted!!!

Basically they can sell any pile of junk, and then make money collecting it every time it goes wrong...

Parts have arrived so I've had a bash, I mean how difficult can it be to tighten a nut?? well read on for two issues I have come across.

First issue, the folding tabs bits on the washer don't line up with the nut. the one to the left looks fine, the one to the right doesn't

http://s800.photobucket.com/user/martash2009/media/IMG_20161012_141303403.jpg.html

Also there seems to be thread left on the nut which is not being used. It looks like because the washer is in place means all thread is not used. if that makes sense? if the washer was not used then there is no thread on nut left to use. see pic below.

Probably explained all that really poorly, hopefully the pics will help. Trying to get this sorted myself today before the pick up tomorrow you see. :)

Thanks.
