Ybr 125 headlight bulb upgrade

Liveware Problem

Hi, I'm looking to improve my '07 ybr's headlight as it seems rather weak and I'll be riding in the dark for a couple of months at least.

It seems the stock bulb is 12v 35W, although I've searched I can't find a proper answer - would it be OK to replace it with a 12v 55W bulb such as this?

Thanks in advance :)

Those bulbs will be crap

You want decent quality bulbs like some night racers

Any filament bulb with xenon in it is just a gimmick

As for upgrading the bulb you need to watch the extra heat doesn't melt the headlight housing and also that the stock wiring can handle the extra load and not set on fire

Hope that helps :-)

Owners manual. (what I just looked at like) says

Bulb voltage, wattage × quantity:

Headlight:12 V, 35 W/35.0 W × 1

Tail/brake light:12 V, 5.0 W/21.0 W × 1

Front turn signal light: 12v 10.0w x 2

Rear turn signal light:12 V, 10.0 W × 2

Auxiliary light:12 V, 5.0 W × 1

they sell the headlight bulbs at halfrauds

I'd avoid halfords, rip off place!

Local parts place are almost half, and internet is probably even less

The owners manual. (what I looked at again just now - like)

says thusly.

This model is equipped with a quartzbulb headlight.

however quartzbulb is just another way of saying halogen. says the all-knowing google machine.

designed to confuse.. (and grossly amuse)

more tea vicar?

And also your choice of ship name was another clue I think?

Thanks for the responses :) looks like I should stick with a 35W bulb, just have to try a few to see if they're any improvement over the stock bulb - I'm pretty confident there will be some that are!

I have a Honley HD3 SE, but AFAIK, the headlight is the same as that on a YBR (plastic reflector).

I still had the original bulb which seems to be the equivalent of this bulb until the dipped beam gave up last night:-

Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB395 12v 35/35w Product Description

Offering a great fit, Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB395 12v 35/35w is an excellent motorbike bulb.

Features and Benefits of Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB395 12v 35/35w

White coloured light for notable vision

I changed it for this one today:-

Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB417 12v 35/35w Product Description

For super bright white light, look no further than Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB417 12v 35/35w.

Features and Benefits of Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Bulb HMB417 12v 35/35w

The HMB395 costs £4.49 at Halfords & the HMB417 costs £6.49.

I would say there's not much difference on dipped beam, but the Halogen HMB417 does seem brighter & 'better' on full beam.

The regular YBR125 to the 2009 model and all YBR125 Customs take a 12V 35W/35W BA20d bulb. And they are absolutely awful, a halogen version is a huge upgrade, although still not great.

Whilst the HMB417 is neither "super bright" nor "brilliant performance" I have found it to be a bit better than cheaper halogen ones online.

I am not aware of any LED alternatives.
