Six30 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 At 5mph pushing the right bar will turn the bike left.At 60mph pushing the right bar will turn the bike right..So at what speed does it change? Discuss.... Is it when the African Swallow passes you at 35 mph during its migration . Quote

cockercas Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Personally I think it's a laugh when I am following someone that perform a semi full leaning position in corner where I am sitting almost upright and handling the bike with my one hand your way sounds a lot less fun. Roads around me are just very simple and easy taken at high speeds without leaning, that is all. You need to go faster Leaning isn't something that happens in time. You have to steer into a corner and lean the bike or you will not get around it.Your not going to fall off leaning it so get it cranked over. Stu Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Your not going to fall off leaning it so get it cranked over. So why do you keep falling off Quote

Guest Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Countersteering action is quite simple, the bike leans when you push the bar due entirely to gyroscopic action. When a gyroscope is pushed as it spins it doesn't turn in the direction of the push it turns at 90 degrees to direction of the force. This gyroscopic action only happens when the front wheel is spinning fast enough to act as a gyroscope. As for leaning when cornering you cannot corner safely while upright but you can steer round a corner without leaning. As you corner the centre of gravity moves sideways due to centrifugal effects, this means the tyres are no longer contacting the road at the centre of gravity of the bike. Leaning brings the contact patch of the tyres under the centre of gravity of the bike making for safer riding and higher sustainable speeds through the corner. Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Or think of it as when you turn the bike, the contact patch actually moves and the bike rolls around it. This is why the tires wear over their entire treaded area (or not, if you are Someone ). When you see a speedway bike turning at FOL, this is just an extreme example of how any bike turns. The gyroscopic explanation is correct, and is the reason that learning how to ride a quad, a trike or an outfit is so "entertaining" . The forces twisting the wheel are still present in cars - it's just that they are separated out by the suspension struts and wishbones so you never notice them. Quote
mikestrivens Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 it's amazing how these old threads get resurrected Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 There ought to be a section for "Lazarus" threads....but if it was worth banging on about then, it's probably worth banging on about it now.......e.g. countersteering, the gift that keeps on giving..... Quote
Hoggs Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 misread that as Lateralus threads and thought you were being a bit harsh Quote
