Gloves help needed

Hi all,

I've begun the process of shopping for my first ever biking gear.

First gloves,

I like RST, many friends wear and recommend them as a brand but there are so many to choose from.

I will mostly be riding in London, some very occasional motorway miles.

As budget is limited i'm intially looking for one pair that will suit a variety of occasions i.e summer and winter.

I've seen these, RST Raptor 2 CE Waterproof Glove - Black https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/222426, I chose black as i'm not a loud colour type of person.

I have not idea wether they are suitable for city riding, all weather, cuff lengths etc so I am calling not on expert reviews but opinions of real users aka you guys.

I'm really fussy about gloves.....so my Triumph Explorer winter gloves and my Held summer gloves are my favourites........you may find winter gloves are too much during the summer......

I agree with Tango, winter gloves will be a nightmare in the summer, the same way thin vented summer gloves would be a nightmare in the summer. I might have some summer Sparda gloves laying around if you'd like them? Just pay postage, might save you a few quid if budget is tight

As most of the above posts say. You will generally need a summer pair and a winter pair.

Concentrate on the summer pair for now. Around October you will be thinking about gettign your winter pair.

Best to go to Bike shop and try them on. A good fit is important, you want to be able to operate all your handle bar controls and open/close your visor.

The sizing of gloves varies significantly, I have medium, large and x large gloves that all fit me. I agree about the need for winter and summer gloves.

also whilst expensive - I've found gloves with gortex are worth the money in the winter!

You'll,need at least 2 pairs if not three.

Winter gloves will get hot very quickly in any warm weather,especially if you are crawling in London

Summer gloves will get very cold really quickly on a cold morning or if riding in wet weather.

There's no such thing mate.

If you are commuting in winter you will need dedicated winter gloves.

Buy your summer ones now and buy what the hell you want but try to get gore-tex as it still rains in summer commuting, and it's often much heavier rain than in winter. Go to a big bike shop and try on a few pairs and see what you feel comfortable in. In summer gloves how much you like the lining and ensuring there is no bits that dig in are as important as anything else. May seem expensive but good gloves will last you 5 years if you look after them, and you'll be much better spending £100 then you've got good gloves, than buying a new pair of cheap gloves for £30 every year.

Ok mostly on scooters/certain bikes.

No worries, they are so warm that I can get 45 minutes to work in low single digit temperatures, and I'm nearly there before I realise I forgot to put the heated grips on. They can get damp if it's very wet but never wet like some other gloves I've had and as thdy stay warm its not an issue. There are so many seams in a glove and you move your hands so much, that I don't believe there is such thing as a 100% waterproof glove unless you stick marigolds over the top.

I have a set of these as summer gloves I cannot fault them... Can be hard to get hard of and normally I am XL or bigger in these I am Medium but cracking gloves....

Winter gloves I would go with Gortex, without doubt, These look like good value for money....

I always carry both as if it rains in the summer warm hands go a long way to keeping you warm....
