Found a screw in my rear tyre tonight. It looks too far to the edge to be repaired to me but I don’t know the rules for bikes. Should I be preparing myself for another £150 tyre?

I think so long as its not on or too near the sidewall I'm sure it can be repaired

Has it gone through the carcass? It looks like it might just be in the tread rubber. If it went in sideways and has worn the head off you might be lucky.

It must have, it was down at 4psi when I got to it after work. I put it back upto 46psi and it was ok to get me home.

It’s whether it’s too close to the sidewall, I’ve got the MOT booked for Monday too so I might get the train tomorrow and see if I can bring it forward.

Looks to me that it is in the "tread" area not the side wall.

If it held enough pressure to get you home, then its unlilley there is any serious damage.

Should be OK to get it plugged.

I got my rear puncture fixed a few months ago for £20.

I would plug that.. if you were closer i would pop round and fix it for you. nails/screws - very simple repairs.

Would you do the diy external plug or take it in to get the tyre removed and plugged from the inside like you do a car tyre?

If it was me I would remove the tyre and use a mushroom plug

Just because I can do it all myself

Yea I can’t do that. I’ll get it booked in for Wednesday.

I work not that far from westgate road so usually drop it off at Armstrong’s then walk upto work and pick it up on my way home.

Where at Boldon? Could be handy for me to go there since it’s a couple of miles away rather than 12miles.

46 psi ? Isn't that a bit high ?

He probably over inflated it a bit with the expectation it would lose a bit of pressure.

factory spec is 42psi rear, i figured with some coming out having an extra few psi would help me get home.

I feel your pain, last week I got 2 small holes in the middle of the tread but close together so I don't think they can be plugged on a Supercorsa that had only done 200/300 Miles  , £220 for a new one when the weather gets better :( .

Fair enough , just a bit higher than I'm used to .

I've had 1 puncture and I replaced the tyre. Not sure I trust a repair - I sometimes ride quite hard and don't like the idea of something happening mid corner.
