Bucephalas Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Newbie needing the hive mind suggestions.I am just about to take delivery of a BMW F700gs and plan to use it mostly for the work commute and a little touring.I'm looking a textile jacket and either trousers or over-trousers. Budget is no more than £150 for each. I know it's a small budget, but any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance!Richie Quote
James in Brum Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I bought second hand on EBay, Heinz Gerrick I think. I had bought cheap new textiles before and they were crap. I got trousers and a jacket for less than one hundred pounds. I also have ordinary waterproof trousers I wear over the top for winter commutes and so far I have remained dry in even really bad conditions. To even up my chances in really cold weather I wear layers, it’s not unusual for me to have another coat on under my textile jacket. I would choose second hand over cheaper brand new again. Quote

It looks ridiculous while I walking the dog in it because is 3 sizes bigger but perfect fit over the bike gear. Fortunately I am not big person. Quote

Honestly not always, but if is really heavy rain and I can see that will last for some time than yes.Mostly because it takes forever to dry after. Quote
skyrider Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 or if you wanted to be 100% waterproof visit your local builders supply merchant and get a one piece wet suit they work i have one (in navy blue) Quote
Bucephalas Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 ManyThanks all,I'm liking the look of the Tuzo for the money. I'm sure it will do for the coming summer and too expensive to take a punt on.Cheers for the info Quote
Pbassred Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 I have a superb Richa Gortex jacket and Dianese pants (couldn't get matching) they are both good at what they do but they both have drawbacks despite each being more than twice your budget. My previous set was Frank Thomas that was in you budget but leaked like a sieve! Having lived through last summer in Heavy Gortex I thinking that I could have gone another way. Buy a mesh jacket for the armor and a cheap water proofs over the top. With some warm clothes underneath, you're good to go.Which ever way you go, I'll misquote the cyclists mantra:- durable, waterproof and cheap - pick any 2. Quote
peatear Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Andes V2 Drystar, amazing. Jacket a TAD over your budget (can also get in other colourways, just search 'andes' on sportsbikeshop or other sites)Friend has the white set and loves it. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/329694https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/329670 Quote
RAYK47 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 I bought the Oxford Montreal 3.0 jacket and trousers. Not used them yet but they have decent reviews. Quote
daveinlim Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I've been using the RST blade textile jacket and trousers for the last 2 years for my commute. It's not the sexiest 2 piece ever but it is waterproof, has level 2 CE approved armour and a removable thermal liner. Its kept me cosy and dry over the winter and you'll get autumn, winter spring from it. I got mine from j&s accessories in their local store. Currently £250 all in. https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/rst-blade-sport-2890-ii-ce-jacket-black/27365.htm For the summer I have a Merlin jacket that is light, has some CE armour and has a hidden pocket in the lower back that holds a waterproof mac that fits over the jacket. I think that jacket is discontinued though Quote
JackieOWheels Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I bought the Oxford Montreal 3.0 jacket and trousers. Not used them yet but they have decent reviews. Like RAYK47, I too wear/wore this jacket but the 2.0 trouser for my daily commute and it has held up very well for the Scottish weather. If it's heavy raining, I tend to wear a waterproof layer on top, mainly as another layer to keep me warm but it also dries faster that if I were to just wear the jacket and trouser alone. I've used it everyday this Winter thus far. Quote
