On the CBF is it very exposed and regularly fails which means no brake light. Fortunately if it's checked regularly and given a dose of GT65 it frees itself up. If I don't spot it in time then it means dismantling it. A similar thing has happened to the Explorer, the contacts have got gummed up. I'll take it all to bits tonight and give it a clean. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Ordered new tyres. Continental Road Attack 4's. To be fitted by my local bike shop and cheaper than big dealer and cheaper than Michelin 6's but only by a tenner. Also got them to take on modifying my exhaust hanger so I can fit my Mistral end can with panniers on. It's so much better looking than the OEM which TBH is meh at best. 4 Quote

I fitted a set of Conti's (albeit trail Attack) a few months ago, 3K miles in and they are holding good shape, good in the wet too. And I normally go for Michelins every time. 2 Quote
Pie man Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Gave it a quick rinse, following a 50 mile round trip to the church yard to put some flowers on my parents resting place. Cant be bothered cleaning it, but the pet dryer works a treat 6 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Wasn't planned but I'm on my way north. Dad was whipped into hospital last night so I'm going up to give him moral support. Completely mucked up my week but what else to do. Could have been worse it could have been next week. Just found out M1 is closed at Wetherby so take alternative route (I'm in Ferrybridge the now). 3 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) After the decat I did on the Thunderbird a few weeks ago I had some backfiring/popping coming off the throttle (to be expected due to the change in back pressure, air/fuel mix). I left the engine running for 12mins after the fan kicked in, to allow the ECU to reset itself, but wasn't able to get out see whether it had fixed things. So this lunchtime took advantage of the dry weather and did a ten mile loop, during which no untoward bangs. Now sounding a bit more like a cruiser, and a bit less like a sewing machine. Simon Davey Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Replaced the OEM screen with a "touring" screen.. Very nice quality Ermax, which arrived from Pyramid. Took me an hour to get the threaded rubber grommets in the screen holes, then 15 minutes to fit. Went out for a couple of hours and it's great. Not a huge difference, but I get a lot less turbulence on my chest, and nothing around my head at any speed. Edited December 16, 2024 by Simon Davey 6 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Now sitting in Northumbria Hospital where Dad's been for 12 hours waiting for results of tests. He's had nowt to eat and can't until they know what the issue is. He's got more patience than me! 7 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Well we have now relocated to the Freeman where he is going to be kept overnight for "observation ". They don't really know what is the cause of his pain although it turns out he has an aortic aneurism. TBH at 94 they're not going to do anything particularly invasive as it would be probably more hazardous to him than whatever is actually wrong with him. 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 @S-Westerly Hope your Dad is ok. At that age it's worrying. Quote

There's no particular issue that they can nail down. A few maybe's hence the observations. The aneurism has a 5% chance of seeing him off but an operation on it would be 30%. At 94 something is going to get him and sooner rather than later but fingers crossed not just yet. It's his first time in hospital since his leg was smashed up at sea in 1950 so he's a bit grumpy about it. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Hope it goes well either way. not been in hospital for 70years? Tough as old boots, respect. Wow, I don’t remember the last time we hadn’t had to visit a hospital for anything in under 70days . 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Dad came home very grumpy after his hospital visit. They discharged him and sent him home in a taxi. Didn't tell us so poor sod was in his PJ'S and the thin coat they took him in with. Rocked up about 1800. Fortunately my brother had come over from Munich (pre-planned visit) so he took over the minding duties and I decided to come home. Left Morpeth at 1930 and got home at 0130. Had to stop a couple of times to let my neck recover from the fairly blustery winds. At least the roads were pretty empty although the endless miles of average speed 50 is pretty mind-numbing. Anyway away to bed. Edited December 18, 2024 by S-Westerly 9 Quote

Capt Sisko Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 520miles. Left home in Shropshire at 6.15am 250miles to Newcastle-upon-Tyne to give moral suport to my Aunty. Across to the other side of the country (via Hadrain's Wall) to bring my brother up to date, and long ride home in the dark. The tempurature hit a high of 5 or 6c but most of the time the readout was telling me it was 3.5 or 4.0c. Then there was the windchill and for the last 50miles rain. I got back at 8.30pm - All I'll say is thank goodness for GoreTex, Keis heated kit, an Airhawk, a Pinlock and a R1250RT that just purred along. 7 Quote

I did buy one to fit and promptly lost it in the garage somewhere, my bad, so will be re ordering from David Silver along with dust/oil cover and hopefully the cheapest part I could have replaced will finally fix the problem, will wait till new year so it doesn't get lost in the post by royal mail, good time to give everything a thorough clean That speedometer will outlast the rest of the bike, which, being a Honda, will outlast most of us.....
