playford Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Hey all,I'm trying to get insured on a brand new vespa but I'm avast at the price. I have quotes for over 1000I'm 46, live in london, I've had my bike license since 2002 but not ridden since 2008. I'm going to have a factory alarm, tracker, disc locks and a chain but it doesn't bring the quote down. I have no bike NCB but have full on a car with no points or convictions. The bike is stored in a locked compound away from public. What can I do to get the quote down. Do I need to ring the companies direct? Cover the bike.Cheers Mark Quote
Bender Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Move is probably your only realistic option.London is theft central and with a Vespa security won't matter, if they just steel it to do other crimes they won't give a stuff about any of it. Quote
rennie Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Hello and Welcome London is expensive and scooters get stolen a lot!All you can do is ring round as many as possible Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Insurance in London is high due to theft. If you can get a garage to keep the bike in that will be better. Some bikes are more prone to theft than others with scooter theft particularly high. Try Bikesure directly. I have both mine with them and they've been better than anyone else so far. But don't expect a miracle. London is a no go area for bike insurance. The days when companies allowed you some discount if you have NCB on other vehicles passed a long time ago.To be honest if you need two wheels you'd be better buying a cheap hack and going for basic third party insurance. fastbob Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 All your insurer is seeing is a scooter in London . Personally I'm not a fan of either myself . Quote
playford Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 You guys are totally right.I tried a £500 2007 scooter and was £ 700 and then tried a gs500 2008 and was 350 Quote
bonio Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Have you tried third party only? If you're able to take on the risk of theft yourself, it could work out better. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 You guys are totally right. Can I have that in writing to show my wife? Quote
geofferz Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Have you tried third party only? If you're able to take on the risk of theft yourself, it could work out better. Yeah, not worth paying fully comp if it costs more than the bike... Quote
