Dazzo92 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Hey all.... Right so I have my first mot coming up and I went and bought a new rear tyre (2weeks ago) it got put away as I was ordering other things and wasn't needing to change right away my bike currently is running a 110 80 17 and I just noticed the guy gave me a 100 80 17(sure I asked for the 110) anywhoo can this be used?.....Note this is for a zontes panther 125 so lucky to get 70 outta it with my big ass Quote
onesea Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) I have a triumph that can run on 2 or 3 different size tyres.Have been advised quite firmly by a reputable part supplier that fitting tyre other than stated in manufactures specification will invalidate my insurance. To the point he implied this including brand/ tyre to original OEM spec never mind size.Edit to add: I bought the tyre size I wanted how am I to know it was not the last owner who changed tyre size and I just bought the same again.. Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 It's just slightly narrower, but for your bike I doubt that would create a problem.Narrower tyres can actually give you more grip in the wet as it increases the pounds per square inch contact. Quote
fastbob Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I wouldn't worry about it . It might even handle a bit better . Quote

I think having OEM tyres only would be reaching a bit as once a bike's a certain age OEM tyres might not be available having been replaced with a new version. On Ducati forum there's a lot of talk about tyres but I've never seen anyone twitching about insurance issues! Quote
WD-40 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 If it's not fitted yet you might as well swap it for the correct one Quote
husoi Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Worth checking with insurance guys. It could void your insurance. Quote
gogs01 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 I believe that insurance will be fine, if the tyre manufacturer recommends the tyre for the bike.Otherwise, you are at risk - it's more likely something will go wrong and, if it does, more likely that insurance may be an issue. Quote
