My missus was saying something to me earlier as I was leaving, I couldn't quite hear her but I can only presume it was something like "that exhaust is so f**king cool, please rev it more, what an amazing choice you made"

And off I pottered fully satisfied with my purchase, safe in the knowledge that her cul-de-sac no longer think I'm an ar*ehole.

This is most definitely what she said. I have no doubts.

I don't want to be a nuisance but no cat does look a lot better with bikes where you can see them from the side lol, just need to find an exhaust which lowers the DB a bit, because it's 97 with the cat and then goes to 106 without with the stock exhaust.

Headers on their own shouldn’t break the track day limit unless it’s a modern big Ducati (most now are at or more likely over the normal UK tracks) or some nobber with a inline four and a bean can excuse of an exhaust. decatting adds double quadruple points of stupidity and shame if you turn up thinking it will be fine “innit mate?” coz I bought stuff off…...

With the stock exhaust and headers, it goes from 96/97 db stationary to 106 db stationary which I think is right up or just over the limit at some places... I'll just need to find an exhaust with a stronger baffle.

Good morning .

About to have a wet and tedious day riding from our hotel to the Pyrenees… 😕

Have to admit, I avoid the rain like most leisure bikers, but in Germany recently, I kind of enjoyed it.  It's just a different dynamic. I was glad when it stopped though 😆

Sounds like it will.

Dont know what your bike is so I’ll generally say . the cat does most of the sound deadening out of the usual three main parts of a system in the most modern bikes as std.

A std oem exhaust will be second and closer matched to what the cat amount lowers does than say a aftermarket which most if not all does away with most of not all internal baffles and routing that the std.

contrary to belief modern engines make more noises as they make more power but the difference is they have been engineered to dampen out as much as reasonably possible while the old ones did not.

if the cat has a variable valve in it which is great to get around static testing but may just mask the problem and make your bike too loud on the “fly by testing” (Ducatis of an era were a prime example) and yes they do that and it’s at the marshals posts, if that was to happen it’s their choice if they say you can only go up to a certain rev and gear at anytime or just deny you use on the track but that is depending on how  loud and how much baffling has been put on the beforehand…..

During a static noise test a decibel testing device (which looks a bit like a mini metal detector) is held at a 45 degree angle half a meter away from the exhaust exit. For cars the engine is held at ¾ of maximum revs. For bikes it will depend on the cc and number of cylinders.

The most common RPM needed for a static bike test will be:

7000rpm for a 4 cylinder 600cc. 5500rpm for a 4 cylinder over 750cc and 5000rpm for a 2 cylinder over 750cc.

The general limit for most UK Circuits is a max decimal limit of 105db which is a standard club race limit but there are several circuits and specific dates with more strict regulations and therefore lower limits.

I have a strong urgency to clean the bike if I have been rained on but, on a tour it'll be hard to do unless someone's bringing a load of cleaning supplies :D

Usually head for the nearest garage to foam and jetwash it.

On tour, it's the last thing you think about. As long as you lube the chain and check the tyre pressures.

Bikes are for riding, not for cleaning. 😂

My VFR800fi with what was effectively the standard system got within 1Db of the limit at Cadwell Park - every ruddy time. My FJR1300 and R1200GS were well below on the one occasion each were my steed.

Last Friday I was out in my summer gear on my Bobber.

Today it's winter kit on the CBF.

I probably won't need heated gloves but it's not far off. I have gloves 1 to 4. Summer gloves are 1, heated gloves are 4. Today will be 3.

If I was riding the bike first thing this morning as was going to be the plan, it would have been winter gloves and heated grips on 40percent minimum!🥶.

we’ll see what this mid day holds on to…

Goodmorning biatches - off to Italy we go at 17:00, wish I got a bit better sleep but unfortunately couldn't get back into it

Have a great trip.

Don't worry, the excitement and adrenalin will keep you safe.

I did 11 hours on the bike after 4 hours sleep, it wasn't an issue. Try not to eat too much when you stop for a break, and take plenty of breaks.

See where we end up before stopping…

Wish I was on a ferry with my bike heading somewhere

Looking from most of the active members here, you’re almost the only one who isn’t going / has gone somewhere in the last few days

Tell me about it 😂

I'll be taking as many opportunities as possible

I must confess we aren`t heading anywhere this year by bike.

However in our defence ferry for next year Plymouth to Santander and return 14 days later booked the other day.

Plan is Picos and into Portugal as last trip N260 and over Pyrenees into France and then trek North to Calais for ferry was great.

Cheers
