jedibiker Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Yes, as mine is at the back of my house out of site, i turn it on then lock the door etc, get it to the front of the house ready to go. I like to at least have it warm enough to turn choke fully off. But at times we have the bikes running for a few mins before we go.. Ive read all the above and glad to see some clarity, ive never heard of anyone get a fine for there car being on (or bike). You see it alot in car parks etc as these days alot use their cars to charge laptops, phones etc. Also in summer some have it on to power aircon. Quote

I tend not to stress the engine very much anyway, I am a bit of a taxi driver when it comes to commuting. That could mean that your bike is already a bit rich . What's your air filter like ? It could also mean that the Pilot Air Screws are a bit too open . No easy answer to that one because I'll bet there isn't a standard setting and they are an absolute bitch to accurately adjust on a hot engine . Then there's the possibility that a previous owner has meddled with the jet sizes . Edited March 27, 2021 by fastbob Quote

No it's s standard Kawasaki zzr trait. choke is like a switch that off-2/3rds doesn't feel like it doesn't do anything ...the remaining 1/3rd sends it racing .. Just don't leave on too long .. Headers go very cherry red 1 Quote

He responded that my Honda didn't need it. Fast forward to my BMW now and the manual specifically says "Ride away immediately after starting the engine." I'm happy to go with whatever the manual says. On the topic of cars, I've long said if you want to nick a car just go for a walk early morning in the winter. The number of people who are happy to start their car and go back into their house leaving the car completely unattended is bonkers On my cycle to work I came upon a middle aged lady in her pants and a T-shirt screaming and shouting at someone in a 4x4 . At first I thought it was a drunken domestic row but actually the potential driver was an opportunistic thief who had blatantly walked into the lady's kitchen and taken the keys while she was dressing to go to work . Seeing my presence he thought better of it , hurled the keys at my head and legged it across a nearby playing field . It's terrifying to think that such scum are roaming a respectable neighborhood at eight in the morning looking for a crime to commit . The ethnicity of the thief is of no relevance . 1 Quote

One of the reasons I never keep keys together, I have my keys scattered about in various parts of the house and lock keys are separated from ignition keys, and my alarm fob is on a chain attached to my belt 1 Quote

Back in the 1960’s early 1970’s it wasn’t uncommon for a thief to nip round the back of a house and nick stuff while the householder was paying the milkman or insurance man (I worked for the Pearl collecting / selling insurance and we were told to advise our customers to be aware of this). 1 Quote
Throttled Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I freewheel down a path and start the bike when I get to the roadway, then it is down hill for the first part, so I don't bother warming the engine first as it has an easy start to any journey. Quote
JackieOWheels Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 In the colder months I do warm the engine up before I set off as the power would just cut off/stall if I attempt to set off straight away but in the warmer months I don't. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Wait for the revs to pick up 10 secs... Upto 30 in cold weather Quote
