onesea Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Having earlier this year replaced fork seals on my Trophy my TDM900 has one leaking, so the questions are: Can you just do one fork? I know you physically can and probably should not. However if it’s not the seal it’s the fork and then it will be both but I could do without the expense… Has anyone had any luck with those fork seal cleaner things? Any advice on supporting front of bike when you don’t have centre stand? I do have a scissor jack, and rear paddock stand. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 To be honest I'd do both as if one has gone the other is probably nearing the same situation. The Bobber doesn't have a centre stand so I use a lift which fits under the frame but it wouldn't work on the TDM at all. You'd need to fabricate some form of cradle that connected with something load bearing. Either that or invest in something like an Abba lift with a bike specific kit. Quote
KiwiBob Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) Mine were leaking a tad so I cleaned mine yesterday but didn't use one of those "seal cleaner things" .. I used a feeler gauge and it seems to have done the trick. Edited June 23, 2021 by KiwiBob Quote
TimR Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 You will find that as the dampening has been compromised on the one fork it places more strain on the other so you may find it will follow quickly . Quote
Ian Frog Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 For what it`s worth I use an Abba stand with the bar for holding the front wheel off the ground. Just buy the adaptors for different models. So far I have used on 2 Busas a ZRX1200 a Yam R1 and a GSX1000K5 I know the initial expense looks a lot but it is so helpful and secure when used on a lift as well. Cheers Ian 1 Quote

onesea Posted October 13, 2021 Author Posted October 13, 2021 Just thought I should update this. I bought a fork cleaning device: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Risk-Racing-00123-3676-Red/dp/B006ZTTY6Q/ref=asc_df_B006ZTTY6Q/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310746095651&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2055931966918760719&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006900&hvtargid=pla-493848944095&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 The answer is yes it worked, initially I had my doubts as leak was quite not good. However fork seems dry now so all good.... Quote
