onesea Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 If Russia steps out of Ukraine, NATO have stated they will retaliate. What would our goal be? Afghanistan, Iraq, Croatia and most Africa has shown that placing your own governments and borders only leads to further blood shed. Democracy only works when people are ready to accept it. If Russia starts throwing things our way what will we do? One assumes America has an anti missile defence, I am guessing we are geographically too close for an effective defence system. I assume our nuclear subs are already at sea hiding away from the Russian hunter killer subs, ready to retaliate. Guessing once attack detected immediately allied GPS signals would be disrupted and attempts to jam the Russian, Chinese, Indian and European (I think that’s working) would be made. Guessing this is already in place in Ukraine or spray painting road signs would be useless if there mobile phone could say turn left at next function to reach you rendezvous. Guessing Many Coms would be shut down to try and stop the enemy reaching there target. It would then depend what’s left after the initial vollies if Nato/ Russia has the resources and stomach for prolonged land battle. Given the mess left one would assume some of the none western NATO Powers would be ready to have pop at world domination sorry “bring world stability”. China? N Korea? Japan? India? Quote
Throttled Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 NATO are surprised at how badly the Russians have done. I suspect any Russian strike outside of Ukraine will be dealt with by that country, Poland being the most likely, giving far more aid to the Ukrainians, probably with the much requested air assistance. The Polish air force would start to shoot down Russian planes and assist with a no fly zone. Poland is rated 18th in world militaries. Ukraine is 21st, the Russians supposedly 2nd, but that is down to numbers. They are crap at tactics, dreadful at logistics, morale is poor and their equipment is unreliable. Quote
Tiggie Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Very true, it isn't always about numbers. In 1990 Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world. Not that I'm comparing Russia with Iraq Quote
Gerontious Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 I imagine world leaders and their armed forces top brass are watching the Russian invasion in slack jawed amazement at the incompetence shown thus far. And my bet is the Russian military top brass aren’t best pleased either and at the end of the day, they are the only ones who can remove Putin. Unless an assassin can get close enough, which doesn’t seem likely. I think the most likely scenario is for the Russian military top brass to turn on him. (Hopefully) 1 Quote
Stu Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Well I don't think the Russians will be coming across via P&O anytime soon............ 5 Quote
