If they were beehives at that size they would be called nucs ( pronounced 'nukes') which is short for a nucleus hive. If MI5 is monitoring electronic communications I might have a problem because I emailed a friend to say I had killed off the old queen and scattered several nucs around the garden. (The nucs are bait hives as I have a colony making supercedure queen cells and they might swarm whilst I am working away.
