onesea Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) Google Apple or whoever runs decides who does what you see on your device. They are good, often when severe weather appears I get the Daily Mail, weather forecasts just because they are hilarious to read. Google up a review of a motorbike and yup you get motorbikes. You know the story - if your going to google up a birthday present for your misses do it incognito, or google will tell THEM where you could of got it cheaper. However one annoying side effect, I live in and area where there allot of traffic stopping organised and private cycling events. Many use set routes that affect my commute to work (which is only a couple of miles) so a 5 minute delay and I can be longer than my commute. Even the big events do not need to tell the local council you just randomly drive into sometimes 100’s of cyclist. So I joined all the cycling groups I could in the area, I now generally get warning of the events. Although some have hidden the routes so you have to search to see which roads will be effected . However now Google thinks I am a cyclist The worst of it is it sends me “near miss of the day” which is pure click bate and I bite every friggin time. https://road.cc/show/tags/near-miss-day/143145 On to many occasions I sit there think we’ll we know where this is going to end or if I did that on a motorbike. However it seems where cyclists are involved the motorist will not just get telling of they can be punished quite substantially and it’s never there fault. Todays that started this post: https://road.cc/content/news/near-miss-day-796-294353 Yes you can debate either way, the cyclist is never “in the wrong”, however if a motorcyclist did that on a 50cc who’s fault would it be? Can someone suggest some appropriate searches (that won’t get me arrested)…. Edited July 13, 2022 by onesea Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 My wife, who is a teaching assistant and was making a role play area for the children, once Googled 'role play', and was rather surprised at the results. But here's a thing. I was toying with the idea of buying myself a tractor to visit some of the farms I go to - silly idea but it kept me amused for half and hour. I did not get beyond just thinking about it. I didn't look up tractors online or go to any tractor sales places. It was nothing other than a casual thinking about it as a hare brained idea. But within 24 hours my computer is filled with adverts for tractors. How does that happen? 1 2 Quote

onesea Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Well 4 hours later I have new searches Section 21, Possession Orders, tenancy agreements, solicitors insurance brokers. I get the feeling how my summer is going. At least I will be well researched if they do come to arrest me… Quote

Davidtav Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Yeah well my daughter telephoned me in a panic because there was a mouse in her house … and yes you guessed it. I started getting ads for mousetraps. There were no emails or texts referring to this. I did not Google mousetraps. Just the telephone conversation. … make of that what you will Quote
