Capt Sisko Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I'm planning an Autumn SS1000 (1,000 mile in under 24hrs). It's not the first time I've done this and not unreasonably my better half likes to keep an eye on my progress. In the past I've just sent her a text whenever I've stopped for fuel or a break. It works, but I was wondering if there is a better technology based way of doing it? Something along the lines of a GPS tracker that the missus can log into and see where I am. Has anyone done something this via an app (IOS) or other bit of kit? I'll of course have my iPhone (XR) with me and means of charging it so an extra power drain isn't an issue. I'll be using a Garmin Zumo XT for navigation and I also have Garmin Edge 830 off my push bike that I could use. I also don't mind buying a bit of dedicate kit, as long as it's not too much money. Any ideas or suggestions? Quote
JRH Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Can you use “Find My” app to track your IPhone? 1 Quote

Gerontious Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Share with people Open the Find My app and select the People tab. Tap the Add button . Select Share My Location. Enter the name or phone number of the person you want to share your location with. Select Send. Choose to share your location for One Hour, Until End of Day or Share Indefinitely. Quote
Capt Sisko Posted August 26, 2023 Author Posted August 26, 2023 That was quick, thanks all. Find My app look pretty good, but I've also been recommended Life 360. Anyone tried this? Quote
Tiggie Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Me & the Wife have our google accounts linked with each other including location sharing. Mainly so we can easily share photos and calendars but it can be quite useful opening up google maps and seeing her location. That way I know how long I've got before she's home so I can time the cleaning 4 Quote
Shepherd Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 You can do this with WhatsApp too. When my daughter wakes up, I'll find out how Quote
Bender Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Just stick an apple air tag on your bike, she knows where you are supposed to beand you know where the bike is Quote

Didn't know you could do it in maps in general - thought it only did it whilst you were on a specific journey (which gives your eta Eta on a planned route - very handy too). Thanks Quote

Anyone tried this? My Wife and our kids have I phones, so they use the find my I phone app however, I use an android phone, so we also use Life 360. Its good but sometimes there are glitches when they decide to turn off notifications. My wife knew there was something wrong when I had my last accident however, when I was out last week in Wales and with no signal she started to panic a little. Quote
