Davidtav Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Well I’ve had this bike for three months. Done 1200 miles. This is a very smooth well balanced machine. The height suits me. I’m 6 foot 1. It just feels as if it fits. The power seems to be there. I’m really liking most things about this bike. I don’t like the turbulence from the screen. And I think the headlights are outdated. LED units would be better. Overall a great motorbike 4 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Got one on order for hire when we go to Cyprus. Looking forward to it. 2 Quote

bonio Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Where are you planning on going? Got any routes or directions planned (clearly not south or west... :D) 1 Quote

bonio Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Ooh nice. Some great roads, especially in the foothills of the Troodos, which are more off the tourist routes. The tarmac is great (at least it's great if you can stay on roads that don't turn into boulder-stream river beds.) I was looking at it enviously from inside the hire car a couple of weeks ago. 1 Quote
Swin Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Had mine for about 6 years now, and 45,000 miles. I would recommend a Givi Airflow screen - no more turbulence. Also, F800 mirrors are better than the stock ones. My seat cracked last year, but I got a replacement from a guy on the south coast who does his own range of custom seats 1 Quote
Ian Frog Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Now I have had a week trundling round Lanzarote on the V-strom almost always 2 up and in great weather I can say with some certainty what a cracking little bike it is. comfortable for both rider and passenger very little noticeable vibration and it seems to be fairly economical. I believe this would make a very good comuter and be quite capable of the occasional longer trip with no problem. Not sure how much luggage could be used before passenger carrying is compromised but I suspect it would be fine. In summary I was impressed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend one if someone was considering it. Cheers Ian 4 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 We found the same in Cyprus. Proper honest little workhorse and fun to ride. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I had one as a courtesy bike early in the year. It was OK to ride but I found it a bit plasticky. Quote

RideWithStyles Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) If no medical problem, i most likely would have not got the gsf650s I have now and gone with a strom or sv. Hell even an aprillia , Ducati or moto guzzi if I was mega flush and regardless. Edited December 10, 2024 by RideWithStyles Quote
Davidtav Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 I do get it that some components look plasticky. The dash looks a bit low tech by today’s standards. And it is an older model at the end of its life. But it handles superbly. It isn’t a perfect bike. But it’s probably a perfect bike for me if that makes sense … I did 7500 miles in my first year with this bike. Compared with 3000 miles on my previous bike. This bike is just so usable 2 1 Quote

S-Westerly Posted February 17 Posted February 17 At the moment it's my dealers courtesy bike. So when the Guzzi was in for some warranty work I had the Strom for about a week in fairly crap weather so didn't ride it as much as i might have. However when I did, I found I could get some fun out of it but had to ride it like I stole it. Was quite well planted too but I won't be swapping the Guzzi for one. 1 Quote

Hi Simon, just picking up on your comment re the V-Storm, was it the 650 the dealer gave you as a loan bike, and was it a lack of Torque at the low rev range that was the issue. A couple of reviews I have read suggest this was a strong point of the injin!! Quote

No it was fine but my own bike is completely different to the V-Strom and you've got to ride it in a different way to make it fun. Remember it's 650 cc vs 1050 cc so I'm not really comparing like for like. End of the day just about any bike can be a pleasure to ride depending on circumstances. 2 Quote

OK, thanks for that, the reason I queried was that it on my list of possible next, lighter, touring bikes, I would be moving from 1200cc, 155 BHP., which I hardly get over 3000 revs. 1 Quote

Ian Frog Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Well we had a very nice week on the little V.Strom and taking the small roads etc into account it aquitted itself well, riding mainly 2 up it trundled along the motorway at 100 kph easily enough and seemed happiest on the twisty country roads in the Northern 1/2 of the island. I get @Davidtav`s comment about the dash but given it`s a LCD unit speed, revs, fuel level, flashing low fuel warning, temps for engine and air available, 2 trips mileage and ABS indicator in reality not much more needed. I think if I was in the market for a cheap commuter I would definitely consider one seriously. Cheers Ian 2 1 Quote
