Its been going on for a few years now. when I was passing through Austria during Covid, en route to an overnight in Liechtenstein to keep on the right side of UK rules. I saw several signs about it. Mostly such as the below giving dates as well as the decibel value above which you are banned.

If your bike is fully standard and 'modern' then you have nothing to fear. The 95DB limit has been the standard for donkeys years for bikes imported into the EU and UK. and any 3rd party exhaust marketed as 'road legal' will comply.

The problem is with the German insistence on TUV testing... not all 3rd part exhausts have been TUV tested. so you might fall foul of that. But, the Polizei dont stop people for no reason so if you are stopped then you probably already know why.

basically people living in idyllic villages have had enough... and I can't blame them, had enough of their weekends being ruined by noise.

In Germany the Polizei now carry DB meters in their cars as part of their normal complement of equipment. if your bike fails then you are screwed. your bike is off the road. plus there's an on the spot fine. And the only way to carry on is either replace the baffle you thought was unnecessary or have the bike carried to a border. where you can legally ride it again.

Some sections of the Pyrenees are also closed to bikes.

Mostly because of the idiotic brainless morons doing off road and making endless racket that can be heard miles away in a area where there is little noise.

One of the things I like about Germany is the noise laws. On Sunday's they have a thing called a Quiet Law, so you can't be noisy mowing your lawn with a knackered old petrol mower for instance, or drilling holes in your house, also between 10pm and 6am.  They do vary from district to district but the principals the same.

Same in our part of France. You don't do noisy work out-with normal working hours i.e. You don't start jack-hammering your concrete floor before 08.00 and you make sure work stops between 12.30 and 14.00  and stops for the day at 18.00.  Sunday you can cut the grass from 10.00 till 12.30 and that's it.

The aim of this is to encourage consideration for your neighbours.  All well and good, but a few years ago we got new neighbours who decided to have a house warming party that was still going at 07.00the next day. I don't think anyone called the cops but I did see a couple of neighbours going into next door and there were sounds of a rather lively altercation. Next thing there was a lot of car door slamming and screeching of tyres.

Then silence !!

They never stayed long.

I like a bit of peace and quiet, I'd have those sorts of laws here. I wonder if it could include the neighbours dogs barking on one side and the little girl screaming at the top of her lungs on the other!   Jees I'm turning into a miserable old sod, lol..

I wouldn't worry to much, I've been over the Hahntennjoch (Twice this week) and many more passes without encountering any issues :thumb:
