Steve_M Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) Carlisle Judo club, where I’m one of the coaches, want a website. Given that I’m the only club official who has any IT knowledge (albeit from many, many years ago(, I seem to have volunteered to get the ball, rolling. Requirement: Easy to build (ie. No fancy coding) and modify Static content Inexpensive.. I can probably do most of the build if it’s relatively simple (for a brief, and enjoyable part of my working life I used to build Lotus Notes applications). I’m looking at something along the lines of GoDaddy. Any suggestions (paying someone is not an option. I know lots of web developers and techy geeks - I’m avoiding them due to requirement 3 ). Simon Davey Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I use a program called Mobirise, it's free. I build on my PC, then upload to 1&1. It's rare to be able to do this, as most website building is online. Our website 4 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I pay £6 a month for a virtual private server from a company that can't even sort out the SSL on their own website. Runs an out of date version of Ubuntu, Apache, PHP, and a Postfix mail server (for my sins). Let's Encrypt handles the Certficates so that's all free and works to secure both web and email. It confuses companies when they ask for my email address and I give them one with their company name in it. The logic being - if everyone gets their own I can tell who's been selling my details on to spam lists and kill that particular address. Really should get the whole thing upgraded, but there's no option to do it in situ, so it's a case of building from scratch and migrating. Quote
S-Westerly Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I can read the words but the total is incomprehensible to me. Glad I don't have to learn that stuff now. Good luck to those who do! 3 Quote

A bit posher than we were looking for. 1&1 are now IONOS, they have good reviews. 1 Quote

Thanks, it's just a matter of dragging blocks into place, adding pictures, and popping text in. They have templates that you can use if you want it simple. Ignore the temptation to buy the packages, ours is done with the free version. Yes Ionos, been with them for almost 30 years, when it was very basic. Quote
billysugger Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Would they keep an ionos, just to make sure we get it right 3 1 Quote

Yes that did confuse me at first when I first saw your email address but soon realised what you was doing so refrained from selling your data............. 1 4 Quote
Stu Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Pointless me recommending someone as I have been on a large VPS for the last 14 or so years maybe more and the company I use will be way out your budget! sometimes its way out of mine The smaller companies that was decent have all been swallowed up by the larger companies Quote

I’ve created a very basic website Carlisle Judo using Mobirise (no apologies for the image of child abuse - that’s me throwing my son. He gets his own back now!). I have yet to look at the Ionos hosting option due to other commitments. However, assuming I get around to it soon, and buy a suitable domain name, how do I move the site across? Quote

Once you have an account, I'm pretty sure there are lots of options, and lots of "how to" pages. Edited March 15 by Simon Davey 1 Quote

You normally find with AI generated or "free" sites they hold your website to ransom and want money off you to release it! Quote
