Glad I'm not the only one doing this! Best bit is when you stop at lights and the cars/pedestrians beside you look at you like you're bloody insane

Honda CG 125 reverse gearbox

And yep, looks like the model I was talking about - legit Honda rather than a Chinese knock off -
Knee braces are the best thing ever, just sayin'!

Guilty as charged m'lud. Do you mean cleaning only the visor, rather than the inside face of the Pinlock insert itself? Thought it had a coating on it which you shouldn't touch. ...clean?

Honda CG 125 reverse gearbox

Have the clocks got a rev counter? If so, it's a legit Honda - specifically, a CG125S 4 speed. Limited run that Honda of Japan made for the home market, 10 years after production was moved to Brazil. Not sure if it was for a special occasion or just for shits and giggles. You see them referred to on and off as the classic or nostalgia edition because they styled it after the old '85 model instead of the contemporary fugly CGs. Normal CGs (and the various knock offs) don't tend to have the rev counter so it's easy enough to tell them apart. Should look like this: http://cdn4.fast-serve.net/cdn/BrooksBarn/CG125-CLOCKS-Km-Hr-used-on-WH125-3_700_600_3T7V8.jpg Anyway, David Silver imported a few of them so they show up over here every now and then. I've got one too, love it to bits They're actually quite rare - especially by CG standards https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CG125S-1995-4-SPEED/ -

Can't come after all, family visiting. Would've made an excuse if this weren't likely to be the last time I'll see them for several years -
Gloves: over or under?
RantMachine replied to Liveware Problem's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Am after a gortex jacket. What's the jacket you have with the funky sleeves? It's made by Dane. I forget the model, it's in America so I can't check -

Yeah, my goretex jacket is the same combined under/over affair that Gerontious has. Rae was bang on the money with what he said about the angle of your arm - but also I fidget a lot so the double overlap is a godsend All that said, I wear my winter gloves as rarely as possible - much preferred my summer gloves. I say preferred because I lost one of them on the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride -
best first time bike for commute

If a notably lower weight was one of the things attracting you to the F650, then you've definitely been reading about the old single versiom and NOT the newer twin that Arwen is talking about I posted a review on the F650GS: https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=52720 And Old Timer is still riding around on the Dakar variant, if you want a second opinion on the bike. For me, the short version would be: + Great all rounder that can haul a lot of crap with ease by 600/650 standards + Fun to ride, great at technical stuff especially picking through heavy traffic + Far more capable off road than most of its Japanese counterparts - VERY popular bike for more serious adventure riding and round the world stuff - a whole lot of very tatty examples out there as a result! - Far more expensive to maintain than equivalent models from Japanese manufacturers, and needlessly complicated to work on - Not so hot on top speed; gets lazier after 50mph and doesn't have a sixth gear Awesome bike for adventure travel if you can find a tidy one and are handy with a spanner! But for primarily road miles and commuting I'd recommend looking at the V-Strom 650 (or Versys, as recommended above). Both will give you a fair bit more top end on a road and don't have the same pedigree health issues - or the BMW tax on parts costs! For similar money to a tidy F650 you can usually get a Strom with luggage included -
Folks who use the words "triggered", "privilege", and "patriarchy" too often. Once is generally too often.

+1 what Megawatt said. The only time I wouldn't recommend that is with Chinese bikes... The warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on and the servicing is explicitly designed to rip you off so no point playing that game! May as well DIY it from day one

Ah yeah, for me it's always that really distinctive DR125 oil filter cover that I look for first I agree on the twin exhaust ones, surely it's just one more thing to rot? If they want to go for that look, I wish they'd make a copy of the CM125 engine instead of just jamming a second pipe onto a CG
-
Sound recommendation! Although I think that the DR/GS/GZ/GN125 engine is getting to be more common than the CG these days, it seems to be used in the majority of the offerings from Sinnis, Lexmoto, and Herald.

Late season meet! Sunday 22nd October Hungry Hogs Leicestershire
RantMachine replied to Stu's topic in General Rideouts/Meets
Nice, I prefer the look of that one -
Bloody hell I've never had any trouble with the other people in the byways around here, usually pretty friendly in fact - I slow down to pass so as to avoid squashing children or dogs, or startling horses, and they move to the opposite side and don't do anything sudden or stupid while I'm passing. Usually say hi or have a little wave. That being said, I remember someone near Huntingdon being hospitalised a few years back when a wire was tied across a trail at neck height...

As Mr Fro said, I'm off soon (don't suppose you want to buy a KLX250, do you? ). Going to 'Murrica because my wife was offered a job in Colorado and it seemed like a good opportunity for her and a cool adventure for both of us! And I'm just a little bit excited to be moving to a country where the emissions laws still permit the sale of air cooled 650 thumpers I'll say this up front, visa applications are a SHIT - the paperwork has been going on for nearly a year. Just booked my medical exam, been on the phone all day long and it took until now to sort it. -
Oh nice, 25cm is pretty darn respectable! More than a KLR, which is nothing to scoff at... and you'd get even more if you were to switch up for a larger front rim. Get some knobblies on it and it could probably be ridden in anger on the rough stuff pretty nicely I take it the luggage was included in the price? That's pretty cool. My favourite thing about my 125 was the integral panniers, considering luggage options for smaller bikes are generally pretty limited it's awesome having that extra space. Makes venturing further afield that much easier! I used to keep a mini tent and sleeping bag in mine along with a pretty comprehensive tool kit so I could set off with no need for planning
