  1. If he's not banned then at least a good spanking is in order
  2. I had a Toyota Corolla for 6 months or so (someone had to)....was an auto though, I don't know why I got an auto, I think they're for people who don't know how to drive proper cars... Anyway, nice ride! Drive safe!
  3. Ooh, that's the year I was born!
  4. Interesting article http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/09/uk-riots-psychology-of-looting Makes me think ... while blatant criminality is unforgivable, the quote here that stuck out, ""Walk on the estate stairwells with your baby in a buggy manoeuvring past the condoms, the needles, into the lift where the best outcome is that you will survive the urine stench and the worst is that you will be raped . . . It's not one occasional attack on dignity, it's a repeated humiliation, being continuously dispossessed in a society rich with possession."
  5. I laminated the one on my old bike... haven't done anything with the one on my new one because it's under the fairing on the front wheel (odd place imho).
  6. Having studied Sociology & a background in Social Work I don't dispute that socio-economic circumstances can affect how someone might feel towards 'the system'. However I would repeat that living in impoverished circumstances doesn't prevent a person from knowing the difference between acceptable & unacceptable behaviour. No it doesn't prevent them from knowing that but it if they don't care about themselves, their neighbourhood etc then what does it matter? We know that speeding is unacceptable and unlawful behaviour but we choose to speed still. These guys have no hopes, no chances etc and only if the system hasn't yet failed them at school and they've managed to get the skills to study/work when younger they might stand a chance of getting somewhere through hard work. However this obtaining skills at school and working really hard itself is something frowned on in those societies. Something easy comes up and they'll take it. I was unemployed for quite a while when I was younger and the whole dole system dragged me down and it wasn't until I was supported by family that I managed to get out of it and realise the extent of how deeply I had sunk into self loathing and lethargy. I agree wholeheartedly with Susie's comment and a little with PD's... Yes, the 'system' has failed and is failing whole generations of young people and adults. However, we are all individuals and we all have a choice to make. I grew up in a very deprived area, I think Blaenau Gwent is the second or third most deprived area in England and Wales after Tower Hamlets, and that's caused by lack of employement. There used to be a coal mine and a huge steel works employing 16,000 men (and women) in my home town and now they're both gone. It's estimated that over half of the men and women of working age in the valleys are on some sort of disability allowance or income support. Why am I not in the same position? Well, I was lucky that I have two fantastic parents who made sure I knew right from wrong and brought me up with a modicum of respect for myself and the people around me. And I made a decision - I didn't want the future that was offered to me. I honestly believe that had I not got out of the valleys then I'd have flung myself under a train long ago. Of course, I'd have had to catch the bus to find a train station...but still. I'm fed up of people blaming the 'system'. The system didn't make people loot shops and steal cars before setting them on fire - mob mentality, greed and stupidity did. How on earth is the country supposed to get any better for anyone when people treat their own neighbours in this way?! And not everyone who is part of the benefits system have been caught up in this, some of them are decent people who would no more do this than I would. Of course, there's no telling what individuals are capable of when part of a mob... But I can see this boils down to a very personal view - do you see society as a collection or individuals, or as an amorphous and diverse mob?
  7. I voted no and I'm with QB, two wrongs do not make a right. Prison is far too easy for those who are institutionalised into it - so-called career criminals. For normal, law-abiding folk the prospect of prison is horrifying, but for others it's the only thing they know. I'd rather see Levi Bellfield in a pitch black box he can't stand up in, sit down in, or lie down in for 23.5 hours a day. Death is the easy way out. If you take a life then you lose the right to determine how to live yours. Simples.
  8. The worst bit for me, was how they opened the bag and went through the contents so nonchalantly, like they weren't even doing anything wrong. Agreed. Picking on an injured boy who was clearly disorientated. The type of person who would rob a old lady.
  9. honestly, thats shocking.. i doubt i'll use them again, even tho it seems everywhere else charge this ridiculous fee too ...... That wasn't Swinton though, I think it was Bennetts. I only used them in the first place because they were the only people who would insure my 650 before I passed my test. I could have used it for lessons if I'd wanted. I didn't, a 'zuki GS500 is much easier to pass a test on
  10. I got charged £25 when I moved, they also wanted to increase the premium by £140 because they didn't recognise my postcode (new house) even though on a comparative quote via bikesure I'd got better cover for less money (and they'd recognised my postcode without any problems). Asked to cancel the policy and the woman on the phone started getting stroppy with me, saying, "aren't you better off waiting for one year's no claims bonus?" Not for £140, no.
  11. I work in central London, round the corner from Scotland Yard and there were 40+ police riot vans all parked up on the streets around yesterday evening. Must've been in for a briefing. Was quite scary, but I was glad I was on my way out of the city for the evening. Just had an email from HR saying they're keeping an eye on the public transport status (closed stations etc.) and if anyone's concerned about their travel they should speak to HR.
  12. £20 is fine for me. Saves worrying about the odd pennies here and there.
  13. TC sent out a PM to all those on the list so if you're not on the list but thinking of going them PM TC for the info (or me, I have a copy).
  14. I've got one of those. I wanted a Canon EOS 350 or 400, but mes parents got me a Chrissy pressie and I'm not churlish. I really like it though, and suits my beginner needs. I find sticking it on auto actually gives me the result I'm after most of the time! I will spend more time on photography at some stage, but till then happy days
  15. Song for the Lovers - Richard Ashcroft
  16. Not repeatedly and about the same thing. And F*CK IT! Nman's still moaning!
  17. What akey said about staffie owners... And well done Jin for doing the right thing. It's such a shame the initial buzz of owning a dog doesn't translate for some people into making that dog a proper part of the family. At least you did the best you could.
  18. Ooh, now I might be able to come along I am going out Saturday night though, and am going to a mate's drinkies on Sunday afternoon. But could squeeze in an Ace cafe sausage sanger
  19. Can you not get cover? If I was nearer I'd help out.... and not off topic because, F*CK IT! They're still digging a hole outside my house!
  20. f**k IT!!! The company's spending a load of cash on refurbishing the office and all people can do is complain about it! "Moanmoanmoan...smells of paint....moanmoan" "Moanmoanmoan...I don't like the colour...moanmoan" FFS...cheer up you bunch of whinging arses!
  21. I'm going to see what I can do work-wise...missed it last year and it looked like you had a really great time. I have to be in work on the 17th and 18th but I've tentatively booked the long weekend. TC GARETHNW YORBANDIT + MUZ REVS Decor58 (Probs) Boothy Devans mojobanana (tentative - tent-ative, geddit?! I'll get me coat...)
  22. I'll be going, never done it before but it looks like a great event for a great cause.
