  1. As many will know I've never bothered with cars . I think I would probably enjoy working on a classic car but I think modern cars are a nightmare . I was trying to help my neighbor with a Citroen C4 and we couldn't even find the Starter Motor .

I rode the 66 from Scotch Corner to the M6 this year . The Camels were a bit of a surprise !
  3. I wish . I flogged it for £50 ( I think ) Hindsight is a wonderful thing . I should have rebuilt it over time and then looked for an ER5 to put it in .
  4. Not a pretty sight . ART aftermarket pistons , standard size I think unless the 135 stands for something . I would have thought that if you're going to replace the pistons you would go for a 00.5 rebore while you're at it . Of course it's not impossible that all the damage was done when I started the bike up . The bike had been standing outside for a few years and one thing that dissolves carbon is actually water . The deep scoring does look a bit fresh like it all happened in a short period of time . Who knows ?
  5. Just ordered a second hand set of barrels and pistons with 28,000 miles on them and apart from the chain and sprockets that's the last money I'm spending on this thing !
  6. Not quite on topic but worth a mention . Still in use but might as well be abandoned due to the almost total absence of traffic is the B7076 / B7078 road in Scotland . Much of this road, that runs from Carlisle to Glasgow , consists of the old A74 that has been reduced to a single carriageway .I've ridden it a number of times now and I still find it intriguing . Have a read . https://www.roads.org.uk/articles/b7076-and-b7078
  7. Did you see the War Memorial ? Besides those who died in service I believe it also commemorates those killed by a direct hit on a nearby shelter .
  8. Wotcha going to do with the old pistons and barrels? I want to try boring out on my mill you see. I haven't properly assessed them yet but one in particular has bad scoring on the piston skirt and in the bore . I'll let you know what's happening .
  9. We've seen what you can do so .. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cc1MXQiHFhY/TN8fTdn-VSI/AAAAAAAAAAM/WkvhG4HV8Ws/s1600/oddballkellysheroes2T1.jpg You know what ? I'm leaving them in . There's enough usable thread on there to crush an exhaust gasket . All I need now is a serviceable set of barrels and pistons and it's good to go . I'm not faffing around with rebores and rings this time around .

Hello and welcome . I too love the roads of Northwest Scotland . Unfortunately it takes me a day to get there .from Coventry. Have you ridden the B7076 / B7078 from Carlisle to Glasgow ?
  11. I don't think these two bast*rds will be as cooperative .
  12. And victory is mine ! So let me pass on a piece of sound advice for when a bolt snaps in your engine . Go to bed and sleep on it and you will find the solution in the morning !
  13. So as I said yesterday . Things are not going so well . I've got two snapped bolts . One in the cylinder head and one in the engine itself that holds the water pump together . And that's not all . The barrels and pistons are scrap . Oh well , it's a winter project and it's not really winter just yet .
  14. Today was the day of the engine strip down and it did not go well . Story and pictures tomorrow . Right now I've had enough of ER5's for one day . I think I'll go out to my lockup and talk to the Harley .
  15. The best way to save money and protect your bike from the ravages of Road Salt is to go on line and complete a SORN declaration .
  16. EBC HH , you might as well fit something decent .
  17. Nice. You must be a very patient man! Can you link the scotchbrite please? I've been meaning to try some but don't like the price of the pukka ones. https://www.toolstation.com/contour-sanding-pads/p10736
  18. Looks smart. How did you do that? Hours of hand scrubbing with progressively finer Scotch Pads ( Toolstation equivalent ) degreased with cheapo Brake Cleaner , Two wet coats of Halfords Aluminium Engine Paint and then when it was dry I baked it in a medium oven for an hour to cure it . Life used to be so much easier when Nitromors actually worked .
  19. Valve cover , descabbified .
  20. This is a Benelli .
  21. I'm surprised you can find anywhere to hide it on a CG . It's all done and fitted , ended up having to rewire the rear indicators as the wiring literally fell to bits from heavy corrosion @fastbob it was tight but managed it just, there was the main control unit, a siren and speaker, i do like my talking alarms
  22. I'm surprised you can find anywhere to hide it on a CG .
  23. But if the Chinese bikes were in another section what would we have to be grumpy about ? I have a full head of hair in its original colour by the way which is more than can be said for my teeth .
