  1. I totally get where you're coming from but I don't think our mutual friend will be convinced . Bear in mind that you should use a tiny little torque wrench in INCH pounds to avoid over tightening cam caps . There's many a GSXR and the like been ruined because someone couldn't believe how LITTLE torque is needed to hold down a camshaft . So they ruined their GSXR because they didn't use a torque wrench? Not ruined if you fancy doing 20 Helicoils and 8 more 7mm ones for the valve cover .
  2. Can anyone see the birdie ? Taken from my backyard at the weekend .
  3. I would imagine that the caption " Drunkdago " is a bit of a giveaway . Or is it a Red Herring ?
  4. If someone says they will give you a deposit tomorrow , tell them where the nearest Cashpoint is . If they still want to give you a deposit tomorrow or worse still at the weekend , tell them to go and f**k themselves right there and then . It saves a lot of time , voicemails , staying in when the weather is good and general frustration . Trust me on this . Check out this link . https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=69548&hilit=Deposit&start=75#p1084630
  5. They are 100% definitely scammers .
  6. And they have to perform an exhaustive series of checks on it before they risk losing the profit margin if it's returned under warranty . A dealer offered me £200 off a tatty Harley for this .
  7. MT 03 . Probably best to sell privately .
  8. Just finger tight You're wasting your time . There are Torque Wrench believers and there are Torque Wrench non believers and neither faction will be persuaded otherwise . The non believers probably had Meccano and the believers probably had Playstation when they were kids .
  9. What bike is it ?
  10. I wouldn't go there on an ER5, it will blow away overnight. I've been there by bicycle so I'm not unduly worried .

Bear in mind that you should use a tiny little torque wrench in INCH pounds to avoid over tightening cam caps . There's many a GSXR and the like been ruined because someone couldn't believe how LITTLE torque is needed to hold down a camshaft . Why pound-inch? GSXR manual says 8-12 Nm which is fairly standard for an M6 fastener in grade 8.8 and well within range of small torque wrenches. More damage most likely from dirty or damaged threads and inaccurate torque wrenches that are never calibrated. I don't know either . I've no idea where I got that idea from . Must be going daft .
  12. I've got my own adventure channel and most of it is stored in my head . My next expedition has already begun with the purchase and refurbishment of another ER5 . The goal is to get to a place called Huisinish in the Outer Hebrides . I'm hoping that the Covid 19 situation might have eased by next summer but it's by no means a certainty.
  13. And the pilot's name? Fluke pic I took about 3 years ago near Banbury. I was passenger in a van as I saw it approaching, whipped the phone out and snapped this pic with it perfectly framed in the pylon. I was in a car near Oxford at about 08:00 am when a Hercules suddenly appeared at low level and dropped around twenty fully armed Paratroopers next to the Ring Road .
  14. Manta ray in the sea or an aquarium . How is it out of context ?
  15. C130 Hercules with the new high efficiency six bladed props .
  16. The view from my office window is a little less inspiring .
  17. We know where to come when Boris and his gang of robber barons with their snouts in the alternative energy pig trough decide to turn off the petrol . Just hide that thing up a creek somewhere out of site and we'll bring our own buckets .
  18. That is not good advice at all .
  19. I thought I'd give the forks a tidy up today . I'm aiming for a brushed effect which I will later give a coat of clear lacquer . Scotchpad and WD40 seems to do the trick .
  20. Well read the manual then . You can't fix bikes with a keyboard . You have already asked for advice and been given two choices . Read the manual and strip the carbs or squirt something down them and hope for the best . But you have chosen to pay someone to clean them anyway ( Presumably in an Ultrasound Bath ) Now you want advice on setting them . I've no idea whether they need adjustment . I presume someone had the Pilot Air Screws out so just set them to manufacturers spec . Do the same with the float heights and once they are back on the bike balance them using a set of Vacuum Gauges . This stuff is all described and illustrated in the manual . And when you've done all that you will have gained some knowledge .
  21. Interesting . I've never heard of a tyre fitter offering wheel balancing as an optional extra so I can only assume that tyre technology has reached the point where no balancing is required . Either that or the guy that did it was on the piss the night before and totally forgot . I'm sure this matter can easily be resolved with a phone call .
  22. That's a car .
  23. Plenty of good Sportsters out there at around £4000 .
  24. Oh , very good . Really nice to see that it's not mutilated , sorry modified . I really can't stand some of the shit that people are doing to Sportsters these days . What tuning set up does it have ?
  25. The telly's shit but I've got this to look at .
