  1. use the .gov website to check the mot history of the vehicle to see what advisories/fails its had in the past few years this may give you an idea if what may be needed
  2. If it was deemed as a non repairable issue regardless of fault and you were going to claim from insurance then yes actual T&c Where a roadside repair is not possible, The AA may provide (but not pay for) recovery following an accident. If so, you will be responsible for paying the AA’s charges for this assistance. Where a claim is being made, we can look to recover these charges from your insurer. If you are not at fault for the incident, we reserve the right to reclaim our recovery cost provided under this policy from the insurer of a known third party driver, who was at fault for the incident. If your not claiming then not covered . as your not starting was due to the incident it couldn't be used as a breakdown ..
  3. I've just downloaded the full policy document and the exclusions are stated in there. I have to admit, I had no idea that the definitions of what constitutes a breakdown were so restrictive. Within AA If you have accident management on policy then recovery can be authorised and the charges are recovered from your insurance . Unsure how RAC work .
  4. Its not just themselves at risk . Consider implications. Sump bolt detaches . Bounces off road surface into following vehicle windscreen . Driver reacts ....... Follow this on with the ensuing oil slick on road surface for other following motorists ..and the oil splatter on windscreen reducing vision if clearing is attempted. and then we get to the oil on rear tyre creating loss of traction which may result in your bike becoming a ground based projectile into other traffic who react to avoid . And this is all before the engine seizes due to lack of lubrication locking the back wheel up . But your bike is still on the road so thats all that matters i suppose

  6. loose / dry chain
  7. mainly check all clearances before you adjust any .Who knows they may be within tolerance . And don't forget that you need to retighten the adjuster lock nut and in this process keep the tappet adjuster in position ...it gets fiddly So as above start with your measured clearance at the higher end as this gives you a bit of wiggle room . recheck clearances after tightening the locknut and a couple of hand revolutions of the engine before reassembling the engine .

    Wheel alignment

check you have fitted parts in correct area from left hand side(chain side ) you should have split pin nut washer swing arm Spacer then the sprocket carrier WHICH IF YOU HAVE REMOVED MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLACED THE CORRECT SPACER INBETWEEN THAT AND THE WHEEL.IT IS THE ONE WITH TWO DIFFERENT SIZED ENDS (42036)but doesn't look like a top hat .(one end sits inside the sprocket carrier bearing) Wheel Top hat washer with smaller end into the wheel Brake caliper mounting swingarm axle bolt head

  10. i was intrigued at if it was the name of person who sold the item or staff name .
  11. but next time ask to see the sales girl tattoo.... its amazing how they put the names on the sales ticket and the info you can gleam from that easily
  12. As there is a specific One way bearing in the starter clutch system i would hazard a guess that you have placed the bearing the wrong way round .
  13. just to give you a bit of knowledge a vehicles cooling system is a pressurised system . the system will be classed as overheating within a general range of 112-124 degrees celcius as it is under pressure so boils higher than 100deg c The average normal running temp of an engine is between 82 & 96 degrees celcius .There is a Thermostat ( a temperature controlled valve) in the system that stays closed until the coolant in the engine reaches a certain temp then it opens and allows the coolant to circulate through the radiator ..( normal running temp ) The cooling fan is designed to kick in at a certain temperature and under normal riding conditions ( ie riding as moving air going through the radiator cools it down) will not operate until circumstances changes ie you are stationary or slow moving traffic then it will kick in to cool it down .This still does not mean your engine is overheating though .. The temperature gauge will have a display that will vary on conditions ie .. summer normal temp will be higher than winter . If it goes all the way to the top and stays there with steam coming out then stop , allow the bike to cool.down and investigate.Same as if it goes all the way to the top and then drops to the bottom . Anywhere else in the guage as long as it rises from the bottom and fluctuates a few dashes over the journey then i would just keep riding .
  14. its for the new bypass road thats planned to go through there next month
  15. some bar ends actually expand the handlebar when tightened ... As said previously undo the bar end and test ... it may just need a fraction less tightness which will be sufficent to retain the bar end but allow grip to turn . if concerned you can always threadlock the bar end . make sure your cable routing doesn't impede the throttles action .
  16. surely you mean anti clockwise for out ?
  17. put bike on centre stand so rear wheel is off ground start bike and let it idle ( dont touch throttle) is it idling high so it spins the back wheel does it have a rev counter a typical bike engine will idle at 800-1200 rpm if its higher locate the idle screw/adjuster ( do some research or look in owners manual ) but make sure it is the idle screw . and turn this anticlockwise until revs drop ( but count the amount of turns you make) if this has no effect look next to throttle grip where cables exit there are two adjustetment points slacken these ( make them smaller ) and see if that has any effect .ie bike stops or revs drop if it does make those adjusters as small as possible turn the idle screw clockwise half the amount of turns you undid it by and try starting bike .. try to get the idle to the point where the bike keeps running smoothly without racing between those figures above . Then google throttle cable adjustment so that you understand what it is your actually doing and need to do adjust the cable adjusters correctly so that engine speed is not altered by them .
