  1. Maybe it looks like that as the chain isnt under tension.
  2. @linuxrob Over this winter the 125 has not cranked as fast as it used to. The battery is over 8 years old now but still looks good on the opitimiser. Ive had this same thing happen. Battery optimisers are not magical. They can give a false 'good' result. No batteryb is going to last 8 years and still have full capacity. It may seem good, give a green light on the optimiser but it will very likely have lost its 'power' - im no electrician. Time to retire the old battery and get a new one. £25.
  3. Bit of an odd decision.. its not like the bumblebee is anything new. and, outrageous charging extra just for a limited paint job and nothing added. But.. a 270 degree crank. now.. i wonder where they got that idea from? hmmm.
  4. depends a lot on the material the rims are made from and the coating if any.... but, here is a photo of what might happen. and its not pretty. The wheel was fit only for the bin. The rim is an Excel.. so a fairly common upgrade for off road style bikes. Its also been given the BarTubeless treatment. But anyway, the sealant got under the coating and caused massive corrosion to the metal. The owner was not happy!!
  5. first nail in the coffin of internal combustion engines. luxury brands to start with.. then makers further down the chain will follow and that will lead to huge leaps forward in innovation and technology. as demand drives innovation.
  6. If you have a 12v socket on your bike you can carry a compressor.. I have one, though its no use on my AT as the power socket only has a 2A fuse. When I went to the Dolomites last september I carried a foot pump, which i kept in the bottom of my pannier.. and obviously, because i had it with me I never needed to use it. obviously. The gas capsule things you can get are for limping to a garage. OK in a pinch.. but hardly satisfactory. .
  7. Used them for years.. and every repair has turned out to be permanent. The more you ride the bike after the repair, the more 'permanent' it becomes. if it never loses any air, why should it need to be replaced. Though admittedly some people seem to 'do' paranoia better than me.. so there's that. anyroad, the answer from me to the original question is. Yes. thanks for asking. one little tip. with road side tyre repairs never underestimate the power of 'sods law' - if you carry a tyre repair kit and so on with you.. the need to use it actually seems to vanish. (just like that) Every single 'object' Ive found in my tyre has been found at home.. when doing my usual pre-ride checks. .
  8. Ive never bought a jacket that had more than a simple foam back protector.. and its hardly that. I guess it makes sense to allow the buyer to decide what he/she wants and leave it to them. side effect being the jacket will at least appear to be competitively priced. Even Rukka do the same for all but the flagship jackets. And.. what if the supplied B-P doesn't work for you?

  10. Stop. Just Stop. Im on nights and just had a pastie and all this talk of food is making me crave a light snack, Lobster Thermidor au Crevettes with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam! Though I could live without the fried egg.
  11. nothing like getting your point across.
  12. No. No outbuildings required. A low value bike doesn’t mean a heap. It means something that if the worst happened isn’t worth claiming for. If the OP thinks it’s bad now, imagine how much worse it would be with a claim, when renewal time comes around.
  13. Manchester... or Salford? If its Salford Im not really surprised. it will be mostly about theft. And the view insurers take on new riders being somewhat careless when it comes to theft. regardless of the security you have. Have you considered a low value bike to begin with and TPO.
  14. Being catheterised is a smidge worse than a vaccination. in fact its 'orrible. And then having it in place for a month,, more 'orriblr.
  15. It’s the ‘go to’ upgrade for Africa Twin owners who can’t justify paying more than double for Ohlins. I’ve not seen even one complaint or “I’m disappointed” comment. Not used them myself, on my old GS I had Wilbers front and rear which are made to order based on riders weight and riding style. I was very pleased with them and will use them as and when I need to do this myself. So far I’m fine with the OEM Showa. But once it starts to get tired....
  16. quotes are generated by a computer. the difference lies in when you talk to an actual person, they can and do often reduce the computer quote. its almost like they are relying on people going with the first quote and not angling for the discount which is often 'built in'. its good business to use computer quotes which are usually at the higher end. if enough people just opt for the quote from the computer then this means more profit. if every computer quote makes you an extra £20 for example.. that soon adds up over 100s and 1000s of quotes.
  17. Of course they do. Though it doesn't really matter.. speed limits are much the same as here in most instances. 20/30mph in villages. 60mph in the countryside, with occasional restrictions on dangerous roads or bends. On the autobahn, which we rarely use, the limit, where shown. is 80mph. where there are further restrictions due to road works. take heed as there will almost certainly be a camera, and there is none of this 10% leeway nonsense we have here. 1kph over the limit will give you a fine. Though it remains to be seen if these fines will follow you home post brexit. This is actually something i worry about as i dont want to be collared in future years for an unpaid fine i was unaware of. So, as a consequence we will be very careful. on the plus side. speed cameras are very rare indeed over 99% of the landscape we will be riding in. They are found mostly, in a very few villages. The riskiest roads in the National park and in the Nurburgring area.
  18. I see the petition has now passed the threshold for a possible debate on the question in parliament. With over 100,000 signatures.
  19. As joyous scenes go.. this cant really be beaten. https://goo.gl/maps/WCTdPh1z7nNhfydt9
  20. Today, I have booked and confirmed our rooms at the hotel in Germany. As per usual they send everyone their best and hope that by that time Covid will be over. So, Dates are confirmed. Overnight at the Tunnel - Booked. Rooms at the Hotel in the Eifel - Booked Just need to buy the return crossing through the Tunnel now. Though thats never a worry. And can be done anytime between now and the end of July. (before the prices begin to creep up) just under 30 weeks to go.
  21. They can't. It becomes the owners responsibility. This information isn't exactly hidden. If my own bike had never seen a dealer.. and in fact it hasn't since its first 600 mile service in January 2019. Ive been aware of this problem because its been talked about for years and yesterday someone posted that the recall notice had appeared on the Honda website. So, I grabbed my V5 and checked my bikes VIN and voila. One. minor side effect of todays social media. My bike hasn't been anywhere near a dealership for over 2 years now and yet I found out about the recall within 12hrs of its announcement. Last night.. its possible I knew about it before the Dealership! If its a "campaign" the same applies, people will talk about it, even if they had no idea the problem existed in the first place. The vast majoity who buy new bikes do, usually, use dealerships. most are forced to by the terms of their finance agreement.
  22. pretty much the opposite of what BMW do. (unless forced to) when BMW identify a problem they tackle it with something they call a "Campaign"... so, you buy a brand spanker and it has a problem from the factory. one that you may never notice. BMW wont send out a recall, they just quietly let the dealers know the problem exists and it needs to be fixed at the next service. Which has the unfortunate side effect that if you dont use a dealer for maintenance your bike is likely to slip through the cracks and never get fixed. Just hope you never experience the problem whatever it is. This happened a few times to the bike i had. the R1100GS. early bikes had plastic tanks that were gas permeable, so the fuel would effectively leak as a gas very very slowly through the tank walls and cause the decals to bubble. it was so slow you would never notice any smell. if your tank bubbled then they would replace it with a metal tank. But.. to this day you can still find these bikes with plastic tanks. most do not have the original decals on them, for the obvious reason. They also did the same over a gear box issue that was present for several years where the bike would get stuck in third and no fix was really possible, it was easier to just replace the entire gear box. And they did to a load.. but, again, not all. And even now... all these years later this problem occasionally reappears on bikes that were never fixed. only now its for you to try and source a new gearbox. tough titty. BMW will only do recalls if forced to by a countries version of our old VOSA. And then they would only do a recall in those particlar countries. This is one reason why its never a good idea to go independent with a brand new BMW.. or if you do, take it back to a dealer every year or so just for a check-up. or the cheapest possible jobbie and then hope the dealership is square with you and will tell you of any "campaigns".
  23. Finally got the recall notice on my bike.. for this odd problem. Odd.. because it seems to be far more prevalent in some parts of the world than others.. to the extent I thought it might be some weird interaction between foreign fuel additives and the tank welds. It has happened in the UK.. but in a very small number of bikes. Apparently.. something happens to the welds in the tank and particles of metal are released from the welds into the fuel and this can.. and has caused a blockage of the fuel filter which has resulted in the engine suddenly losing power. Its not something Ive experienced. But is very common in the USA and the far east. Much rarer in Europe. Seems Honda are taking it very seriously and have issued a worldwide recall, which they have done in stages and its recently hit the UK.. and now my bike. Be interesting to see if they find anything.
  24. Sealey... no. £14.00 or actually £11.67 for 4. or £2.91 each. No.
