Automotive Battery Full Charge in 5 minutes...
Gerontious replied to Gerontious's topic in Motorbike news
All of which has nothing to do with the subject of this post. which is about a step change in technology where a battery powered vehicle could possibly be fully recharged in the time it takes to visit the toilet at a charging station (old petrol station) The article also hints on further developments where these new batteries will not use as much.. or any rare earth metals. but instead silicon. which is a very cheap material with an inexhaustible supply. its the second most abundant element on this planet. The biggest barriers to electric vehicles has always been cost (due to economies of scale), range and the time it takes to 'refuel' -

at least some do... on downward slopes. where less power is required to drive the mass forward. -

of course they are expensive too buy.. they are only made in relatively small numbers and that is mainly due to concerns that my original post hints at progress towards addressing. There will come a tipping point though where economies of scale turn the current price differential on its head. This has happened with absolutely every new tech thats come along. Early adopters pay a lot. then a few years later.... -
It does say that part of the garden is rented from the council. No mention if its a full burial or a cremation burial. nor any mention of a memorial. There is also rear access that has nothing to do with the frontage of the house.. its not even on the same road. Seems likely to me they simply drilled a 6ft+ hole and dropped the urn in it. then filled it in. no memorial. but only an in-person viewing would answer any concerns.

This is interesting. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/19/electric-car-batteries-race-ahead-with-five-minute-charging-times

Indeed.. it was an amazing place. was hoping to take the gang there last September.. but, sadly.... odd for it to go up in flames though, considering the pass is closed.. with everything battened down for the winter. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1325009

The technology is exactly the same as used on any modern smart phone. To avoid warranty issues, remove it before returning it to the service department at Southampton, of course the only reason to use a film is to protect the screen from glove damage. If you don't mind that happening. then don't bother,.

Bike camping gear

best you can get, is why. -
so not "Big Brother" then.

No. Not a burn. My gloves aren’t made anymore. But there are plenty out there that have the same basic design with two cavities. Do a search. Two/duo cavity gloves and variations of that and they pop up like spots on a teenager.

I have plastic surgery on my right hand and so am very susceptible to the cold. long before it might affect my reflexes I'm in a lot of pain. so, heated grips. wind guards and 'heated grip friendly' winter gloves are a must for me from late October to May. Something I have to live with.

it also works the other way. going brand new means a much better trade in, especially if you want to stay with the same brand. a one owner bike is always going to be more attractive to a dealership.. especially if its the same dealership. Depreciation on a 125 is somewhat different to larger bikes as there is a ready market for them. 125s don't stay on the showroom floor for long. but, if its 2nd hand you want. I would still suggest you buy from a dealership. its going to cost a little more but at least there is some backup if 'reliability' is important to you. look for bikes that are a year old or less. I would definitely recommend the Honda. £2800 brand new. knock off 30% for an excellent nearly new. (VAT+10%) £2000-£2100

Thoughts and Prayers.

which is worse. the tantrum smashing the bike. or the tantrum from those who are so set against such bikes that smashing it doesn't please them, it just winds them up even more.

Funnily enough, I got a hard case with my Zumo, came with the unit in the box. never used it. I see they now cost £25. (wow) as for saving the screen.. if you keep the unit for any length of time then the screen will be damaged, by your gloved fingers. if you want to prevent that put a film on it.

perception is somewhat different to the reality. 3 inches. My 2018 Honda Adventure sports 1000cc and Steve M's R1200GS as well as the KTM 1290 are all three of them just 3 inches wider than the 411cc and 650cc Royal Enfield Himalayan. The huge R1250GS Adventure: 5 inches wider, it carries a 30L tank, mind. when you look at "Adventure Bike" riders, they are the vast majority of them just as much fashion victims as sports bike riders were in years past... because the vast majority were sports bikes riders in the past. so, all the gear.. clothing, helmets with a peak. and so on. Just the same as full leathers and sliders in the past on a bike that never went on the track. The people haven't changed.. but the bikes have. "fashion victims" are somewhat different to normal riders though. I have been organising tours abroad for 11 years now.. and every year there has been at least one BMW GS, mostly two or three... and never, has anyone come along with me wearing 'the gear'. never. And spare me the nonsense about 'off roading'. yes, people do.. I get to see photos and videos all the time and admire what some people get up to on these bikes.. its quite remarkable. but mostly they are bought as tourers.. or practical distance bikes, which are much easier to ride on narrow twisty roads here and abroad than your typical tourer. and a joy on the shite condition roads we have to deal with in this country. which is just one reason for their popularity amongst 'non fashion victims'. Like the people I associate with.

Is it a brand new bike you're considering?

£20,000 and no payment schemes at all.

Never ceases to amaze me that companies that sell to the UK, or are based within the UK produce these things with little or no regard to the end user and legality. its the most basic thing, a number plate must be illuminated and yet... 'you're on your own to sort that pesky little detail out".
-
depends. most people view after market stickers on a bike with some suspicion as they are so commonly used to hide damage.

The lighting on my bike is almost entirely LED, aside from (oddly) the number plate light which is a standard bulb. putting it mildly, Im very pleased about this as the LEDs have a lifespan of >10,000 hours, so little or no worry about carrying spares when away. or at home. and as each LED isn separate if one goes dead it doesn't affect the overall light. the only downside is that if in the future there is a failure of the entire light then then the unit has to be replaced and that's not cheap for the headlight in particular. hopefully there will be a cheaper after market solution if that ever happens. I think you should disregard HID as they were never legal for headlamps. fine for auxiliary lights as these are not part of the MOT. but definitely not appropriate as replacement for the main headlamp.. though people did seem to ignore that fact. I wouldn't worry so much about the eventual disappearance of halogen bulb as there will be a replacement using some alternative technology. too many vehicles etc are on the road for them to be rendered obsolete for want of a light bulb. If you want extra lights then go for LED. as 'extras' these are not part of the MOT and the colour of the light doesn't matter, you can have them always on or switched to come on by choice. you can now buy LEDs that operate at different colour temperatures. so can match the yellowish tinge if you so desire. My own bike has orange running lights that contrast nicely with the brilliant pure white of the rest.

Generational shift is hard to accept when it’s your own generation that’s being sidelined.

It was in the Telegraph. yesterday. They were just talking to France, but it will be all countries in the EU and as they are at pains to point out, it works both ways. it wont affect us so much as we are not going to race... and if anyone is going to be flashed, its likely to be me. 'but' the region we are going to is fairly low risk, rural and quiet.. and in areas where the risk goes up, Rhine or close to the Nurburgring, then we will be very careful. no.. instant 'on the spot' fines on my watch!
